All of a sudden you get a chance to play the "new game on the block" and you throw all of your scruples out the window? This sickens me. I could see someone playing the game if they don't care about the DMCA (this group of people includes some of my technically savvy friends unfortunately) or don't know about it, but if ANYONE should not be promoting this company it should be /.! You guys are such fucking sell-outs.

  10. You have a choice: on Do You Like Your Job? · · Score: 1

I also could have made the subject of this post, "Why I've been fired from every job I've ever had except my current one, but the day ain't over yet." I'm pretty young (23) and have been working mostly in the tech sector since the age of 18. I have come to the conclusion that most peope in power got there by knowing someone, not knowing something...I'm not knocking it, more power to you if you are willing to kiss some ass but it's just not for me. I could usually tell the end was near when a boss would make a suggestion and I would use less than ample tact in responding to his suggestion by saying that "that would make no sense" or "I don't really think you understand the problem that we are dealing with if that is the solution you are proposing." Anyway, your choice is, voice your opinion! There are basically three possibilities: 1) you sound like an ass when you confront your boss on something because you are more of a moron than he is. 2) you make a good point and your boss feels threatened by your better grasp of the situation. 3) you make a good point and your boss supports you. The first two are what is going to happen more often than not and that's how it goes. If you are willing to roll the dice you might one day land a job where your input actually matters and it makes a world of difference. I've never been unhappy with any job I've ever had, just because I always voiced my opinion and if they had a problem with it, go ahead and fire me. Obviously if you have obligations (kids/wife/mortgage/credit cards) you don't have the luxury of gambling with food money, but hopefully you don't have any of these anchors. Okay, this is more than I wanted to type...

msn is a free service provided by microsoft?! If you want to see MSN that bad, just use windows and ie...as far as advertisers go, if microsoft thought that it was going to impact their number of hits by any significant percentage, they wouldn't have done this. People have to realize that we live in something called a FREE society, where you have the CHOICE whether or not to go to a site, just as microsoft has the CHOICE to give their FREE service away as they see fit.

The difference between the "war on terrorism" and the "war on drugs" is that MOST Americans think that the drug war is complete crap! I don't think there are too many people in the US that would mind constantly fighting terrorism.

Thank you...people are really reaching for reasons to hate Microsoft. I mean either run their product or don't!! It's that easy. They are NOT a monopoly, if the price for their product got too high in relation to the quality of the product you received, people would stop using it!

  16. Law on What Does the Audio Home Recording Act Really Allow? · · Score: 2

Though those might be the actual terms of the law, I relate it to this situation: You are in California, sitting around a table with your buddies playing poker for money...now, is it illegal? Technically it is, but I doubt there is one case on the books where it has actually been inforced. By no means do I endorse these rediculous restrictions, but to stop the commercialization of pirated software, they have to do something. Much like the gambling laws are to restrict large scale casino action or underground poker halls, these audio reproduction laws are to try and lower the distribution of pirated software... Just a thought... Dan
