Did you actually read what you linked to? The gentleman who found the "security vulnerability" signed up a new account on the OpenID server requesting his own, already regestered username and password, with a different confirmation email address. The way the server was set up, this was treated as a change of email request, he got the confirmation email (at a new address) and was logged on with his "new" account (his old account with a new default email address).
Except that in order to do all that, he had to know the username and password in the first place, so there is no security vulnerability. It's just a confusing practise to let people change their email address by re-registering their account with a new confirmation email destination. It's a non-issue.
"I just saw something incredibly cool. A big floating ball that lit up with every colour of the rainbow, plus some new ones that were so beautiful I fell to my knees and cried."
I like having everything available just like that. To anybody else it looks like a convoluted mess, but since I set it up I know where everything is and why it's there. I can check my mail status, change the volume, control my media player, open any program that I use regularly, change all my KDE settings, and loads more without minimizing my open window. I also have a rather interesting colour scheme set up too.;)
To me your desktop seems bland and empty, although I'm sure that everything you do is only a few clicks away as well. I don't mind sacrificing some of my screenspace though.

KDE 3.5 RC 1 Released
·
· Score: 5, Informative
Also, since I can't find any screenshots anywhere, here is a (highly compressed -- don't kill my server!) screenshot of my own desktop with some of the cool features. You can see that they changed the Plastik window decoration a bit, and added a nifty "Lock/Unlock Panels" menu option to quickly hide and unhide the handles beside each applet. The new pager applet is really cool, with the ability to go transparent and show different program windows (desktop 2 has KPilot running) that you can drag around from desktop to desktop inside the applet!
So far no bugs have cropped up either, which is good. I really suggest you check it out.
Meant to say VX30, and it's the SAME THING. Jeeze... there are half a dozen different GPL projects being ripped off here; I wonder how many companies have bought this software? Has anyone told Geico about this?
Uh oh... this sounds like MXS rehashed, and we all know how much that ripped off tons of GPL code, including VLC, Media Player Classic, and LAME.
Why haven't these guys been sued into the ground yet?
Yup, it sure is. The OP is talking about the header on the DR-DOS website, and the wallpaper Latticework at the bottom of this page on Digital Blasphemy, a commercial wallpaper site. Looks like they just ripped the pic straight from the sample size... didn't even buy the full thing. They did mess around with the colours, but it's clearly the same thing. Disgusting.
That's exactly what that is, since it's part of Media Player. It's obvious that he's viewing his "album" or whatever that has all of his collected screenshots.
When you have got a product, and you want it to get marketshare (even if it is free), then you have to push it and advertise! It has got to be in peoples faces, because for every one person like you who already knows that it's a good product and yet is sick of the advertising there are 100 who have never heard of it.
Albeit, Slashdot isn't quite the place to be pushing KDE and *nix if you want it to get seen by Joe Sixpack.
Actually, a friend at school was messing around on my laptop, and was amazed with all the stuff that KDE 3.4 could do and it's bundled apps. His jaw dropped at Amarok (auto lyric downloading, Wiki entry on the band, smart playlist, native iPod support, etc.) and was even more amazed when I told him about stuff like K3b's built in DVD ripping, KAudioCreator CD ripping, Kopete supporting all those protocals in one window, and plenty of other stuff. It's worth showing to people.
Imagine that... Superkarumba support built right into the desktop, RuDI will mean more compatibility for KDE widget sets and libraries for all applications, KHotNewStuff (snicker) will get kool and new applikations from the web...
Okay than.... which open XML data standard with accompanying open-source software to use it do you suggest the state of Massachusetts start looking at?
I'm a regular at the NV forum (a little Googling will help you find it; won't link it to avoid another slashdotting), and I thought that I'd give some details here.
Here are the questions (and presumptions) that I see most often asked (and made), and I'll try to answer them.
Won't NV get sued by Paramount?
Nope, because they allow it as long as they make no profit. All of this is payed for from the pockets of all the volunteers that make this.
How good is it?
Honestly, avoid the first episode if you are skeptical. The second one was great, and well worth watching. Bare in mind though that the second episode (In Harm's Way) was intended to be a great big "everthing and the kitchen sink" spectacular story, and now they are going to calm down on the flashbacks and tie-ins and gimmicks and time travel, and get back to some good 'ol TOS. Oh, and brush up on your "Doomsday Machine", "City on the Edge of Forever", and "The Cage" (or "The Menagerie 1&2" will work too).
What's with Kirk's hair?
Mr. Cawley, who plays Kirk, is a professional Elvis impersonator (giggle) and that job is what keeps NV funded, so don't knock it. It'll be cut and such for episode three.
Isn't Walter Koenig a little old for playing Chekov circa TOS?
Um... duh. The role of Chekov at his expected age will be played by their new Chekov actor, Andy Bray (perfect casting; he looks nearly perfect). Somehow he'll get old or something (they are holding out) and then Koenig's Chekov will have to deal with that or something. Pardon my ambiguity, but they want to keep it hush hush and I'm on the outside.
So will this story involve time travel or rehashes or holodeck fantasies or some other stupid plotpoint?
No. It's being kept secret, but Jack has promised that it won't be that stuff. Nor will it be "The Deadly Years II".;)
I don't like the recasting. I can't picture anyone else in the roles. This is common, and I guess that I can only suggest to open your mind. These guys are trying their best, and they are amateurs so keep the criticism constructive.
Who the hell is Lt. DeSalle?
DeSalle, who is played by Ron Boyd, is a character whipped up to replace Sulu in the first episode when the Sulu actor split just before production. He's developing into an interesting character, and will probably have some rivalry with Sulu (now being played in this and future episodes by John Lim).
What happened to Yeoman Rand? She was only ever the Captain's eyecandy, not a Lt. or a helmsman
Yeah. For those of you who skip Episode I (I suggest it if you have low tolerance of amateur productions), Rand got a promotion during the beginning of this fourth season. They decided to "reinvent" the character as a little more useful and intelligent (and a redhead;) ). Personally, I like the change.
Wow.... the actor who played Scotty made a hell of an improvement from episode I to episode II!
Yeah... probably 'cause it's not the same actor. Right before episode I started production, the Scotty actor bailed, and Jack Marshall, the Director/Executive Producer had to hop in the role (and he looks nothing like Scotty, FYI). Since then Charles Root has adopted the role and is doing a bang-up job of it too.
Will there ever be a crossover episode with the other fan films like Starship Exeter or Star Trek: Hidden Frontier?
Well, with Exeter it's kinda iffy since they have totally different goals and such. (NV is trying to bring TOS into the 90's and slowly set it up for The Motion Picture and the following series, and Exeter is trying to be as sixties nostalgic as possible and doesn't look to be including any future stuff anytime soon, not to mention totally against recasting).
Could this be a way to ease tension between Canada and the States in light of the software lumber issue by attempting to curb to Americans regarding security?
The software lumber? Naw... that's all being outsourced to India anyways.
I think you mean softwood lumber. And that's not the only issue; what about Canadian beef? US Farmers are still fiercly rallying about how unsafe beef is in Canada. Let me tell you something. One mad cow was found in all of Canada, and the investigation showed that it got mad cow disease before it was shipped up here from the US.
Um... I don't think that it was "unintentional", since the whole joke was that it was like a School House Rock video, and that Bill is probably the most famous character from school house rock.
Interesting idea. I wouldn't have thought that a manual typewriter would have been easier to use, or less likely to cause RSI, but to each his own.
I suppose that there would be a problem with most of the function keys though. I guess that she will have to plug in a second keyboard for all the features.
Except that in order to do all that, he had to know the username and password in the first place, so there is no security vulnerability. It's just a confusing practise to let people change their email address by re-registering their account with a new confirmation email destination. It's a non-issue.

The link for the source and Suse packages didn't get through for some reason.

It'll be like a second Christmas!
Nice try... but the last article even close to this was here, which just introduced the concept of KDE plasma and plugged SimpleKDE.
First accepted submission! (and first post?) Today is my lucky day!
Uh, try John Koenig. And Andromeda as 22! These guys must be on crack!
Wasn't the Michael Jackson trials on TV a total reenactment of the trials from the court records? They were all actors.
