Lexmark X1185 printer-scanner: $59. Black and color cartridges: $72. My family often buys a new printer instead of new ink in order to save money, and damned if it don't work.
But when we get into presentation-quality raytraces (at least with Povray), my P4-2.4HT takes 3-4 minutes per frame. And that's on lowest quality. High quality takes a matter of days.
Would multicore processing help out here as much as it would with high-speed raytraces?
If they support Unix, then they'd get people who had a bad or esoteric configuration whining "But my computer can't play this video!". Better safe than sorry.
There's just no real reason for them to spend time investing in an OS that has bad netvideo support (no Flash 8+) that roughly 1 in 250 people (see http://www.currybet.net/articles/user_agents/2.php for more info) use.
If you watch TV for 8 hours a day, the lamp only burns out every two years. With what people are saying, at least being able to replace the lamp (i.e. in an LCD) would be a viable option.
We don't need to worry about this anymore. Just buy a network storage device with a RAID and keep it maintained and copy it to newer media when hard drives are obsolted, etc. You'll be fine.
And then closed can take the innovation, come up with something similar, and use brand loyalty to spin it as theirs and/or not acknowledge the creator of the technology.

TFA is from ... Al-Jazeera. Need I say more? That's a pretty big *bam* to your credibility right there.

What would you rather use, the product that came first or the one that's better? (Assuming this is after they both are on the market)
Just checked Windows Update and it's on the list.
Looks like this article is just anti-Microsoft FUD.
Come on, we can do better than FUD back can't we?

Exactly. You need two devices, because you can only use one device for one thing at one time.
