When you're not using the connection, then the bars are a battery-friendly estimate. When you're on the phone, then it's maintaining an active connection and as such has a more accurate measure of the signal.
Maybe we should stop wondering about him. For all we know, he's got problems with other things in his life. Let's stop making assumptions about the poor guy. If I was Jani and saw all this psychoanalysis going on about me, I'd definitely tell whoever was doing it to shut the fuck up.
I always remember remembering that same situation happening exactly how it happens, even to the point of remembering that I had déjà vù in the experience I falsely remember. Anyone else have that happen?
Place your shopping cart in the scanner and hit a button.
"But what about produce?" you ask? Well, how about RFID-enabled bags with specific tags for each kind of produce?
Sure, it's not perfect, but it could be refined.
Plus people could return the tags for store credit, and information embedded in the tags could be used to manage inventory and tell robotic machinery how to bag and/or stock the items.
Why not use those 5 cent RFID tags?

Also, if you steal my idea, I will hunt you down.
Think about it this way. Terrorists could easily and covertly (almost to the point of undetectability) kill millions of citizens without losing any lives on their own part. They're just too stupid to figure out how. As long as they're dumbasses, we're pretty much safe.
Computer with WGA: Hi, Mr. Remote Database!
Microsoft Server: What can I do for you?
Computer with WGA: Is this computer running a legitimate copy of Windows? The license# is ABCDE-12345-FGHIJ-67890-KLMNO. Scenario: Copy is licensed
Microsoft Server: Let's see... yep, it's licensed!
Computer with WGA: Alright then!
Microsoft Server: Bye! Scenario: Copy is licensed
Microsoft Server: Let's see... nope, this one's pirated.
Computer with WGA: Well then.
Computer with WGA: Hey $username, you don't have a legitimate license. Please go buy one.
What's wrong with that? If you pirated the software, then why should you have any right for it to work?
a Beowulf cluster of these things....
How many places are going to ever want to place an order for that many machines, other than OLPC-participant countries?

You can set up a system that logs MAC addresses, I'm sure, and then look them up when you don't know what they are.
People on non-Windows platforms are generally not the targets of ads, as indicated by XP-styled "message box" banners.

Ask the guys running the server farm (20 head) that manages Myspace ads. Maybe they'll have some sort of idea.
For a company in which just one member of it is worth at least 100 times that, how is this going to do anything?
