  1. Re:First, make a good video game on Religion in Video Games · · Score: 1

I just played the PS3 demo of Dante's Inferno, available on PSN and releasing Feb 9th 2010... awesome demo... I highly recommend checking it out if you like button mashers like God of War.

I think religious overtones in the game scripts would and do work well so long as the story is compelling. More often than not the conflict between good and evil is what drives a game's story and religion is certainly filled with lots of that. So the opportunity is there to find great stories to use as an influence... I just don't want to be preached to.

I am however fascinated by space and the science (albeit the layman's view) behind our understanding of it. One thing I have read about is the expansion energy that seems to be pushing the universe apart. If this energy can be found and quantified how plausible is it to create a negative effect, or localized contraction of space, to facilitate a new type of travel?

I don't claim to understand the amount of energy needed but seeing as this energy is dark and pretty much everywhere maybe we don't need black hole-esque power to achieve warping space.

  5. Re:Reality on Guitar Hero, On a Real Guitar, To Hit Shelves In 2009 · · Score: 1

The biggest problem I see is that Guitar Hero is not designed to be played with a real guitar, and the colored buttons do NOT correspond to real string/fret positions, or to real chords.

It goes farther than that. Anyone who plays guitar and has spent some time with GH (any version) knows that the timing of when to play in the games doesn't correspond to the actual timing of the song music. There are quite a few songs in GH that I can play on a real guitar (picture Randy Marsh playing Carry on my wayward son) that I know aren't even close to the strum timing for GH.

  6. Re:m$ on Uproar Over Netflix's New Instant Viewer · · Score: 1

This doesn't surprise me... anything utilizing the technology (if you want to call it that) of Silverlight is bound to be a disaster. Netflix should definitely act appropriately if they're receiving this many complaints or else it will do more harm than good.

The problem isn't the technology, Silverlight plays media very well and if the CONTENT is encoded properly in very high quality. No, the problem here is Netflix and there choice to provide poor content and even poorer customer service.

As long as a corporation can buy the laws it wants others to follow the country is heading for ruin (or already there).

The difference here is that as much as we bitch about it nothing really gets done to change it... it's very much drowned in apathy. Especially when the stigma to the layman is that if you oppose this then you ARE a distributor of illegal "insert whatever here". We seriously need to see forward thinking education to the masses on why this is such a bad idea. Same as the DMCA and other "let's get it through fast" legislation. They introduce these bills & laws without fully understanding what they are doing or the REAL affect it will have on society. We need to reach the layman and let them know WTF is going on. It's great to share bitch-fests with other techies on /. but my mother, cousin Jenny working at the supermarket, and Bob the mailman down the road need to know why we bitch with so much zeal.

When is the time to rise up and to do something for real change? We are the people that have a deep inside knowledge of this matter, maybe it's time to "hack the planet" and get the message out to more than just our own SIGs.
