I was gonna suggest this one if noone else did. MoM was an awesome game. I bought this game on 3.5" floppies for DOS. Its the only game I ever wanted to play past the life of its medium...those darned floppies went bad before the game got stale for me. Fortunately I found a copy of it on an abandonware site. I have to play it in DOSShell though. It requires Expanded memory...ugh! I really wish someone would make a modern version designed for modern OSes.

I know this will mark me as a pariah in the Slashdot community, but I for one loved each and every one of the Star Wars movies. Yes, Anakin was a whiney dork. But he was supposed to be a flawed character. Thats why he became Darth Vader. Yes, Jar-Jar and the Ewoks were hokey...but the kids loved them. I remember...I was in 3rd grade when VI came out, and I loved the Ewoks. These movies aren't the sole property of Sci-Fi geeks. They're meant to entertain everyone -- including 10 year-old boys, grandmothers and parents.

While I'm on the subject of sci-fi fans trashing everything but the original, I liked Star Trek: Voyager and Enterprise. I liked ST:ToS when I was a kid, but its pretty darned dumb now, and Shatner is an even worse actor than Hayden Christensen.

I like the new Battlestar Galactica WAY better than the old one.

I didn't even think Waterworld was *that* bad. I mean...it wasn't great, but it was good enough to watch on cable.

So when we're sitting around talking about people ruining their careers, and movies not being that great...remember that Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ewan Macregor, et al -- are all enjoying great success right now because a LOT of people really liked those movies.

Maybe a lot of the game depends on "luck"...does that mean it isn't fun? People have been playing Poker, Craps, Backgammon, 21, etc. etc. for a very long time. Since when is something automatically not a "game" just cause it has some element of chance? I think thats why a large class of games are called "Games of Chance". Randomness can be fun.

I post this in response to the "Risk" comment, simply 'cause I want to agree with the parent. :) Risk is the best. Even if it is mostly chance, its a heckuva lot of fun, especially when drinking. Risk Godstorm and Risk 2210AD are even better!

The problem with the bible, or any religious scripture, is that people can read it and find passages that back up their preconceptions. People who hate gays can find passages that make them think thats okay. People who want to show Christianity to be hypocritical can find passages that conflict with one another. Well-intentioned people can completely disagree over which passages are important. This is why we have so many different variants of the Christian faith -- Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, etc. etc.

In my reading of the bible, there is one passage where Jesus sums up the entire religion. Everything else is basically background information.

25On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" 26"What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?" 27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[c]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[d]" 28"You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."
The passage continues to define "your neighbor" as anyone you might happen to meet. So, no...you aren't supposed to hate gays.

On a different note, it is stupid that they are trying to redefine the word "Spam". In my mind, Spam isn't limited to email. If you're playing WoW and someone shouts "Lvl 30 Warrior LFG!" 30 times in a row, then they are spamming. "Spam" covers a wide range of annoying actions in the electronic media.
