    Concurrence from me on the 2005FPW. A great plus it has is the ability to rotate the screen 90 degrees; this would be excellent for fitting a page of code.

    Or maybe consider an Apple system? The 30 inch Cinema Display is beautiful, the Dual 2.7GHz PowerMacs are very powerful, and Xcode is wonderful. Just make sure you ditch the crappy mouse.

    So if they're going to be releasing more often with less features, will the cost of their software like, say, Office, be cheaper? Or will people skip a few versions between upgrades?

    Or is this talking about updates you get from Windows Update for free?

    So what are the real speeds? No one gets 54mbps on 802.11g hardware, so I don't expect 240mbps on this MIMO stuff.

    I don't understand the way wireless speeds are rated. I got very close to 100mbps on my LAN before I upgraded to gigabit. I can't get anywhere near 54mbps on my wireless if I put my Powerbook right next to the wireless router!

    Ah, the Apple rumor-mill. I wonder how many kool-aid drinkers who already own 4GB iPods will go out and buy a 4GB Flash iPod if/when they get released to get an extra two hours of battery life and a product that's an ounce lighter than what they had before. Does anyone really care about how light they are? 3.6 ounces is nothing.

    Just because something isn't classified doesn't mean that it won't contain potentially sensitive information.

    Some unclassified information is NOFORN (No foreign nationals).

    Don't forget that you can have all your mail wherever you have a web browser, too.

    Their motivation is to make more money: that's what Microsoft does better than anything, including writing good software.

    So it's reasonable to assume that whatever they have up their sleeve, be it a smear campaign against Open Source and Linux, more fabricated cost-of-ownership numbers, or something else to make their products look superior, it will ultimately serve the same purpose: to make more money.

    I have NOTHING that I need Windows for. My only exposure to Microsoft Windows is at work.

    The games I care about work fine under Linux.

    I'm tired of seeing vandalized pages, pages for 14 year old kids who think their ability with Flash warrants their own page on Wikipedia (I shit you not, I deleted one of these), and other stuff that just shouldn't be there. Their "talk pages" seem to make a simple issue take a long time to resolve. With a little tighter control, I think that the article quality will be a little higher. I, for one, welcome this development.
