Taken at face value, that would be sending photons to nebulas millions of light-years away, and then waiting another million+ years for them to bounce off the target and arrive back here.

At least the cockroaches will have these great space-themed calenders.

Maybe if there was a way to bounce photons off of the second half of the summary you'd have been able to read it.

Sure. Think about 1 - 0.999... it gives you 0.000... = 0. You might worry about a 1 sitting out there in the "infiniteth" decimal place, but remember that you can never get there; the 1 never happens. Since 0.000... = 0 then 1 - 0.999... = 0 and 0.999... = 1. Nothing fancy.

You are right that NASA has not updated it's site since 2006. Just to be clear, the Impact Risk Page is kept current (pretty much to the day). You'll see the link for Apophis if you scroll down a little. If the odds of impact jumped by a factor of 100, this would be one of the first places to show it.

That "Apple Logo" (tm) that makes me feel smart, warm and cozy every time I buy one of their products. At first, I found myself wanting to buy anything with an "i" in front of the name, but then I realized I was just being an iDiot (tm). Now I look for the Apple mark on it before I buy because then I know I will be happy... just look at all those happy people dancing! It's because of Apple right?

I wouldn't count on that logo, if I were you.

    From TFA:

A few days before Apple's launch, an online video surfaced depicting a sleek new product called the P168 [watch the video below]. The phone came in a black box, marked with both the iPhone and the Apple logos. The video showed the phone being unpacked and operated (the start-up screen also featured the Apple branding).

If I push on a wall, I am exerting energy and force but there is no displacement.

And in the case of gravity, even a rigid body is exerting energy to keep a mass from accelerating towards the center of gravity. It is just that the expended energy is distributed to the atomic and molecular bonds of the rigid body that is working to counteract gravity (and continuously generating heat in the process, as any compression of a rigid body will do).

When you push on a wall, the force from your arm does no work. However, you grow tired because work is being done at the cellular level in you body. Your muscles require energy to remain contracted.

A compressed rigid (or non-rigid) body is only going to generate heat while it is being compressed. After that it cools. If that were not the case, I could heat my apartment by stacking up a pile of rocks.
