    Probably not though. People aren't pure evil or pure good and are very inconsistent.

    There's no reason why someone can't be a total selfish fuckwit and responsible for a huge amount of damage in one area (technology), while simultaneously being a generous humanitarian in another area (disease charity).

    even the MS Xbox team doesn't expect the 360 to be profitable, and they don't expect the Xbox line to become profitable overall for 5-10 years.

    this is an updated version, what's wrong with that? old DS's won't stop working. if anything, this is good for owners of old DS's as it implies support will be around longer.

    even if it's a new one every year, you don't have to buy it every year.

    if you don't like the idea of newer, improved products being developed then stop buying any technology and invest in antiques.

    sounds like you believe in God as a First Cause and that the universe has an intrinsic purpose but otherwise base your view of the world on the discoveries of science.

    the Vatican has flip-flopped on its position regarding evolution, especially with the new pope. the previous pope accepted evolution with God as the First Cause, and was generally more tolerant of science. when the new pope came in, he initially attacked science and evolution, though I expect with the recent court ruling massively in favour of evolution I suspect they won't want to get caught out on the wrong side again (as with Galileo, which the previous pope apologised for).

    then you don't actually believe in Intelligent Design(TM) - modern ID claims evolution *is* false because complex things (e.g. people) cannot come about through any mechanism other than Design.

    ID is a product of fundamentalism and should only be accepted by those people who also believe the Earth is 6000 years old and the devil interferes with radioactivity measurements to make things look older than that. at the ID trial many Christians testified against ID.

    phone->USB->laptop
    ?

    apart from a few dollars and taking up a bit more space in your laptop bag, it's a total non-event.

    I find this to be true of most theists.

    when I try to imagine what it would be like to believe in a benevolent god, I think it would be such an amazing thing I don't see how any part of my life would be unaffected. I think that if someone really believed in god it would be obvious without even asking.

    wrong.

    there is no evidence for creationism.

    the phenomenon of evolution is an observed fact.

    the "theory of evolution" is an explanation for the observed facts.

    there is no scientific debate over whether the phenomenon of evolution is real. the only debate is in the details of the mechanisms by which evolution occurs.

    the theory of evolution is the basis for modern biology. it works, people use it. the only thing creationism has ever helped is the bank balances of fundamentalist churches.

    still less in total than evolution though.

    one important thing (in my experience) the UK doesn't have so much of is militant fundamentalism. people might say they believe in creationism, but then lots of people still claim to believe in god. they don't do anything about it though. even if they agree it should be taught in schools they aren't taking over schoold boards for it.

    basically I think the difference is that in America you have the very dangerous combination of
    1. Churches are big businesses (much more so than elsewhere)
    2. businesses can easily buy into politics

    the ID movement is 99.9% a PR campaign.

    while there are always extremists in any argument, and while models are not perfect, global warming in general and global warming enhanced by human activity are accepted scientific facts.

    denying them makes as much sense as denying evolution. oh, wait...

    with both global warming and evolution, the only arguments among real scientists are the *details* of the mechanisms, not whether they actually exist or not.

    I can imagine someone who needs to use linux or Windows still liking the idea of a buying an iMac for its small footprint and quiet operation compared to a typical "beige box". you'd probably lose a lot of the features though - the remote, front row, isight - so might as well get a cheap old version and use the PPC version in the case of linux.

    yes, there will always be delay for the reason you state. but that's true even with human translators, yet no-one claims real-time meetings between people via translators is a waste of time.

    since even "live" boradcasts are usually delayed several minutes for technical and legal reasons anyway, if this technology can get to the state where you're just one or two sentences behind real-life it will be effectively real-time anyway for almost all practical purposes.

    I do use it, and I like its functionality. but it *IS* very slow. apart from boot and shut down, even simple options have a little delay. it would be very irritating if it required more than simply opening a torrent file and leaving it.

    also, why does it cripple my system once a file is downloaded and seeing only begins?

    in America, the government has (unconstitutionally) given the right to businesses to move people if the business will use the land for more profit and taxes.
