    Pardon?

Do you have any idea how many people went to the store to buy a PS2 for the reason that it can keep the kids happy AND play DVDs? Your previous post assumes that the largest part of the market is into this for the games; it might very well be so that this isn't true. I don't know, either, but what I do know is that not everybody is a hardcore gamer who just wants to have a console for the games.

I also don't see what's wrong with playing DVDs in the PS2. I bought a PS2 because I wanted to play games, but also because I wanted to play DVDs. The PS2 does that well enough, right?

Who cares, man? It's still an awfully bloated media player with an absolutely terrible user interface and no support for file formats that we (the Slashdot crowd, not the common user) want to be able to play.

The only thing I can see this being used for is as iTunes alternative, but I consider even that doubtful.

  10. Visuals bother me on More Than 20 Years of the Web on the Big Screen · · Score: 1

One thing that's always bothered me about movies is the fact that the visuals are terrible. Like stated in the summary, an e-mail will transform into an envelope, and when someone tries to hack into a system, the "ACCESS GRANTED" text fills up the entire screen.

I also love how, even when the movie is trendy and has its actors use iMacs, people seem to always TYPE everything because a mouse isn't computer-ish enough. Sometimes, the computers are even green text-mode terminals, even in modern TV shows.

One thing I've never understood is how someone can become a Mac "hater". What's there to hate about it? In fact, I also don't see how someone can be a Windows "hater" (since hating something is different from simply disliking it). Maybe someone could elaborate?

Myself, I've been on computers ever since MS-DOS, of which I've used the initial versions. I've used every iteration of Windows as well. Since a few years, I've been exposed to Mac OS, mainly due to my graphic designer uncle, and after using it for a while, I concluded that it's simply a better system. My next computer will probably be a MacBook.

A dead-on-arrival PowerBook couldn't be replaced until three weeks later.

Yeah, that's right. Seriously. You'd think that after getting their questions answered, those guys would just know that there are indeed good reasons to run Windows on a Mac. It seems that there's just an endless supply of people who are unwilling to listen to good reason.

Anyway, having said that, let me say this one last time:

    Some.

    People.

    NEED.

    Windows.

Nobody's said that this is being done because Mac OS is inferior or anything of the sort. The only big reason is because there are people who are stuck on Windows boxes for work or other mission-critical applications that they simply cannot live without. Before you, for the so-manyth time, complain that this is nonsense and that people should just use Mac OS if the possibility exists, consider the fact that not everybody is as carefree as you and that there could be very good reasons that simply don't apply to you.
