Silly wench put her brand new 6 k IBM thinkpad on the electric stove while she "powdered her nose", when she came back it was a black smokey mess.:-D I still rib her about it..
Its a common problem in Perth Western Australia for people to wander into a high rise, walk into an office, unplug the laptop and wander away with it. these days the pick ones without CCTV..
I don't want to seem like I'm having a go at you.. but a firewall is only stage 1 of protection.. We consider laptops to be our second level of security risk.. purely because of their portability.. so our site had the laptops covered in the same day we had to make sure all the servers were covered.. Desktops were the last on our list..
If they just made sure their bloody networks were patched and firewalled correctly they wouldn't have this issue..
Frankly I think that anyone that complains about this needs a good hard leson in cause and effect.. oh hang on.. looks like they're getting that now! Lets hope they're bright enough to recognize it.
I'm not saying that GPL should be scratched.. just that WineX is a legit app, with good reason for not GPL'ing the whole thing.. and hey.. if you don't want your code locked into the aladdin licence.. DON'T SUBMIT.. *shrug*
Its the only Linux distro that I could get to work.. every time.. It is teaching me HEAPS by being very easy to use, and extremly configurable at the same time.. I can "emerge" a feature or application.. play around with it.. screw it up... and when I can't fix it, unemerge it and re-emerge it without hurting my system one iota!
I love the forum and IRC chat guys.. they are soooo friendly and helpfull totally unlike my experiances with the mandrake, redhat etc crowds..
I'll second that line of thought.. and up the ante by saying that Gentoo rocks as a gaming platform as well.. It works fuggin well for me.. and I'm a linux n00b:-)
This guy went into it with the wrong frame of mind.
He EXPECTED something for his work! If your going to start up something in GPL and release it.. don't EXPECT anything more than a "Hey thats cool" e-mail in return.. If by some chance a company decides to hire you cause its a good product then GREAT, but don't winge because father christmas forgot you.. jeez
having said that.. its sad to see it go.. but meh.. what am I going to do about it..? Nothing... I used it for two days then dumped it for a better product..
You guys have the same problems we have with our polli's
They don't think about what they're saying before they say it.. His point of view is obviously uninformed in the extreme, and seems to have forgotten the fact that in this world, anything that can be made, can be unmade.

Make sure you shut her down at midnight.. or her father process will be out to segfault your partition..
Lindows the OS is free.. If you want to take advantage of Lindows, you need to PAY for the SERVICES that open Lindows up to a useable product..
If you get a drive with or without lindows.. its still the same price..
They better bloody come through, cause its gonna suck being the only one at a LAN party without HL2 running.
If it comes down to a choice of (and it probably will do..):
Linux support and Native port of Doom3
or
Shocking linux support and dual boot just to play half life 2...
Then Screw Halflife 2, Microsoft and ATI, I'll do without any of them easily.. Give me NV, ID and Tux any day..

Yyay for Gentoo!

I'll second that line of thought.. and up the ante by saying that Gentoo rocks as a gaming platform as well.. It works fuggin well for me.. and I'm a linux n00b :-)
I wish they'd told me earlier.. now I'm going to have to rebuild ans swap back :-( :-P
As their carts are smaller, and much cheaper.. plus normally their colors are sold in individual colors..
Qualit is good too..
For work group, go Laser.. if you can afford it..
Just take a look at Opera.
They've made some huge leaps ahead of most other browsers, and They haven't slowed down yet.. there is more to come.
Especially in the mouse gestures and multi level browsing.
Don't loose heart guy.. your view of the world might be dull.. but there are some REALLY good, developing ideas out there.
After ATI win a MS contract for the next Xbox, they now don't support linux drivers.. whats the bet its the same sort of contract.
utter bastards.
Actually this is rather interesting.. and somewhat close to the truth..
I wonder what other idea's can be raped this way?

I downloaded a "shareware" version of "Crimsonland" http://crimsonland.reflexive.com/crimsonland/
Got hooked, finished what I could and proceeded to whip out the CC to finish buying it..
Bastard addictive game it is too.. highly recommended for those that want a deceptivly simple challenge...
Your system will still remain open to IE based attacks even if you don't use it.. and therin lies the issue.
You guys have the same problems we have with our polli's
