    A little naive, surely. If ever computer in the world that runs Windows suddenly broke, I think the world would have a pretty tough job coping, at least in the short term.

    I think it's basically that if I, a casual /. browser can instantly tell it's a dupe, shouldn't the people in charge also be able to tell?

    Also, it's hardly a rare occurance.

    And as far as gaining insight is concerned... If I bought Planet of the Apes and a film about MLK, you would actually think that it was because I thought "Ooh, black people are like monkeys, let's buy these two DVDS!" I mean, come on. Noone buying those two items would be doing it for that reason in a million years.

    Ok, so the Microsoft one has to do more stuff, so it needs more buttons. Sounds fair enough, but how can adding a couple of functions require it to need 6.5 times as many buttons?!

    Surely the question BIll should be answering is, "Why don't the remotes have even vaguely similar numbers of buttons"? And if I were him I would expect an answer rather than some vague "Oh you know, it does more... things..." response. It might be that the Microsoft one is actually better, but seems unlikely at this point...

    Microsoft need to realise that it's the fact that Apple think very carefully about this kind of thing (and the fact that Microsoft clearly don't) that causes Apple hardware to be that little bit nicer. Microsoft have the money to employ people to be nitpicking, pedantic and just downright geeky about every little detail, so maybe they should.

    Why couldn't you turn it off? Why is Google's purchase of cables scary? Why is it valid to compare this to the televisions in 1984 which had a camera in them to facilitate watching what people were doing in their own homes?

    You've read a book. We get it. Now go away and start complaining about things which are actually Big Brother-esque. You know, like Guantanamo.

    I propose we ban anything which uses combustion, after all, fire can hurt people, right?

    lol, were you confused by the typo in the second article calling the iTunes phone the "Rockr" rather than the ROKR, or dare I say you didn't RTFAs?

    In case people haven't realised yet: THE ITUNES PHONE IS MADE BY MOTOROLA AND THE "TWO PHONES" IN THE PARENT POST ARE THE SAME PHONE

    Sorry about the CAPS, but it seems incredible that noone seems to have paid heed to the corrections posted.

    So why is it that there was so much controversy about Microsoft killing Netscape by bundling IE with Windows, but everyone seems cool about them doing this (and indeed predicted it)? Is it just because Sony and Nintendo will inevitably do the same, so we don't have a true underdog to root for?

    Oh please. You answered your own complaint there. Noone in their right mind would possibly think that only men work there, and anyone who speaks fluent english would understand that that is an anachronism.

    Did you know that when referring to a group of people of both genders mixed together, the french use the MASCULINE plural form of adjectives? Why not go after them? Oh yes, because it's part of the history of the language, as is the english example.

    No women I know think that this is somehow a male plot to slowly eat away at their confidence, but maybe my friends are a little more secure than you.

    Oh and my Algebra and Geometry lecturer (at Cambridge, England) refers to plurals of students and mathematicians in general as female. Haven't seen any men complaining yet...

    3 entire wasted months of your life dragged away from your job (which probably won't be there when you return) and your family while they break your PGP encrypted emails to your girlfriend on the off chance the two of you are discussing how to blow up parliament.

    Surely you would just offer to decrypt them for the police, if they weren't anything to do with terrorism, rather than wait for them to eventually crack it only to say "Told you so!"?

    All of the courts should be the same - the software is taking advantage of a situation that shouldn't exist. It's just like when you did something wrong when you were a kid and you had to tell someone - you'd tell the parent you thought would be the most lenient.

    That's a nonsense. Digital zoom doesn't actually zoom in the real sense, it just takes that part of the picture and blows it up. It's exactly the same as going into photoshop, cropping a picture around someone's face then scaling the image to 1000%. Except the camera won't be using photoshop's algorithms - it'll be using it's own terrible, but quick to use ones.

    They don't have identical functionalities in some cases and in any case they are not all identical. The GBA:SP had a backlight which was the biggest complaint about the original GBA (the screen was impossible to use in low light). The new GBA micro is doing what Apple are doing with their iPods. Slowly but surely pushing up the battery life and pushing down the size.

    By your reasoning Apple should have just made the original iPod and left it. They'd already made an mp3 player, right? Why "release the same products over and over again"?

    The iPod and Game Boy are two portable items with fierce competition. Shaving off a few more millimetres might not matter for a DVD player, but could be wonderful for something you'll be carrying in your pocket for hours.

    Ah but all neutrons will eventually decay to protons (the only completely stable baryon), so it's really more accurate to say that protons are forever. Or maybe hydrogen atoms...

    As far as I'm concerned, any price is too much when you can't get a CD quality copy of a song. I mean how difficult would it really be to offer a 192kbps, 256kbps or a 320kbps option too?

    A variable price system might put people off though... one of iTunes appeals is it's simplicity. Also people might not like checking to see a song's price, whereas with the current system they already know the price, probably leading to more impulse buys.

    Weird, it's like the joke is right there, yet it's hard to put into words... All I can think of is something like: "So even more iPods are resorting to flashing now? I thought they were the classy man's MP3 player!" I realise that doesn't make total sense, but maybe someone can use that to make a decent joke. It's humour, but wiki-style. :)
