It's also only installed on PC versions of IE, and only if you go to the install page on macromedia.com. if you install flash directly from the page using flash (using the activex install window warning thingy) it will only install the player.
another solution: don't use Internet Explorer (or windows for that matter)
YES. The real problem here is the usability of sercure certificates. Even experienced web users get lost in the jumble of alerts that are near impossible to read unless you have a very solid understanding of what is going on.
Once these alerts are fixed up, maybe we could make it easier to install secure certificates in your e-mail clients so people can sign/encrypt their e-mails easier instead of having to read an ecyclopedia on secure certificates and then find a certificate authority and then figure out exactly how to install it on your OS/e-mail client.
It's really rediculous how difficult it is to do something that should be very simple by now.
it's partially replacing appls like Launchbar - you can use spotlight to launch apps and open files...
just hit f5 (or remap it to command+space), type in the first few chars of your app, highlight it and hit enter. no more flipping through folders to find your apps and files any more.
it's not quite as full featured as launchbar or quicksilver, but i think that's definitely the direction apple is moving with spotlight.
that's probably a good thing - unless it would also throw in content negotiation and adjust your page headers to be 'application/xhtml+xml' mime type instead of 'text/html'.
without that, internet explorer will choke on your pages that are sent with the correct mime type, and if you don't send your pages as 'application/xhtml+xml' then you are using XHTML improperly anyway and lose many of the main benifits of using it in the first place.
you are correct, but the number of megapixels wasn't really my point...
it's a matter of what product will be more useful to consumers... wireless cameras, or phones with cameras built in?
i'd much rather carry a single item with all the gadgets i want (this camera is obviously marketed as a cheaper snapshot camera, which is what a cameraphone is) than carry around two things - my phone and a camera as well.
nearly every new cellphone being released these days has a camera built in.
i just recently saw one with a 2 mega pixel camera in it, and i'm sure it's only a matter of time until we see great quality 4 mega pixel cameraphones (4 megapixels seems to be the break point for cheapish snapshot digital photos).
plenty of people already use their cameraphones to send images directly up to their blogs or internet services like flickr.com, it's just a matter of when wireless cameras meet with cameraphones.
then they just need to roll in a large digital media player and we'll all be happy... make calls, take photos (and send them to your server/website immediately from anywhere) while listening to the latest mp3 all on the same device.
Joke aside, if they ramp up the risk of this thing hitting earth to one in five, and hype up the devastation it will make, perhaps it will shake people into action to oust all bad governments once the thing misses?
uhh, define 'bad'. depends on which side of the fence you are on.
Well.mobi makes since so mobile devices can talk to each other without filling up valuable.com domains or forcing calling a static IP Address.
actually no..
should we start making top level domains for every new device that comes out? that's not how the internet works... you have a user agent profile and user agent string that every device sends to your web server, and that is how that should be handled, not with a top level domain name.
should there be.laptop and.newton or.automobile when my car gets a computer in it? maybe.toaster and.stove for my kitchen?
the.mobi name is rediculous and completely useless, and will just end up costing businesses more money who want to control their brand names and now have to register more domain names to do so.
possibly the best part is how they make more customers... the endless cycle...
1) poor people shop there because it's cheaper than the other stores because wal*mart gets their stuff all from china and stong arms their suppliers to give them cheaper and cheaper products.
2) to keep up with walmarts demands, the companies have to outsource more and more to china and other cheap labor countries (or just move there entirely)
3) so more people lose their jobs, become poor and have to shop at wal*mart beacuse 1) it's cheaper than everything else around, and 2) all the other local businesses are now out of business because they can't compete with the special deals wal*mart gets for buying in such huge quantities...
would be really nice if you could configure it easily on the fly to sniff out open wireless networks and upload your pics as you are taking them.
i could see someone walking around a city taking shots and as they walk around the camera is uploading those shots to a website and resizing and posting them to their photoblog. hot.
why would you want to record individual songs from an internet stream?
such low quality i would think that it wouldn't be worth it.
timeshifting would be nice for listening later, but i'd rather record the full quality broadcast from a tuner, not from a crappy(comparatively) internet stream
might be tough if they go with windows media player...
it's a pain in the ass to control that with javascript (which i'm assuming an app like this would have to use plenty of) unless you download the active x control stuff for mozilla/safari, which is just a whole other pain in the ass.
It is not illegal for me to tape every broadcast of a television show and to build my own personal library
XM != television - you sign up for a service, so you are bound to the agreement between you and the service provider, so they have every right to say you can't record it.

it's just a matter of who gets there first.
will cameraphones get better cameras first, or will these 'wireless cameras' get... uh... phones first?
i'd say it's a safe bet that cellphones with better cameras will win.

why not just bundle it with a small portable bluetooth keyboard? (the current apple bluetooth keyboard is a little big to carry around)
then you could take it with you if you need it, or leave it home if you don't.

teflon? you mean so you don't stick to it when you lift it up after a long day of work?
i'll be waiting for the thermal tiles from the space shuttle to be added to mine.
Hey Netsky! Nice code, did your mommmy write it for you?!
XM Radio Online was launched on monday... i think this was meant as a replacement for it.
hmmm, i don't have a PC, so i'll have to install this on virtual PC on my powerbook and then install OSX on top of that.
i can't wait!
mine works just fine.. had it for about 6 months, and no problems at all.
it would be nice to have a little more storage space, and it seems to randomly reset about once a month (it just turns off, strangest thing).
i should note that i've never used a tivo or anything like it before though, so for all i know it could be a total steaming pile of shit.
i don't think it's really a matter of people finally getting enough of windows... it's more like people finally have other viable options.
i wouldn't have touched a mac even 2 years ago, but these days they are pretty damn slick.
linux is also just getting to the point where 'normal' users can use it withough being complete overwhelmed (or even underwhelmed in some cases).
good riddance, windows.

i've got a linksys wrt54g with upgraded firmware from these guys, but the QOS stuff is pretty lacking... i'd like to see a better interface on it.
but at least it's a step in the right direction.
i'd have to agree that this just sounds like a gimmick to upgrade your hardware when really all it takes is a firmware update.
