    You are completely wrong. The problem isn't people like the parent poster - he is a RESPONSIBLE person with his firearms, equipment, and children.

    The problem is that we don't have enough people like him. The problem is that there are parents who don't know that their children have weapons, or the ones that don't take care of them.

    I'd much rather live in a society where people like the parent poster can have weapons than a society where only criminals have them. I'm actually very exited to get a gun and training after I graduate from school.

    This is actually a brilliant post. I had a huge box from a big fridge my dad bought, and my brother and I made a time machine spaceship and it had warpdrives and all sorts of stuff. That was an awesome, free, 2 week toy.

    If it makes it bigger, bulkier, or slower, then go away. I want my Firefox to stay FAST. Go make an extension.

    The next big step is to continue to market it. Companies will realize how many problems using Firefox can alleviate, and as it gains more users and attention, it will gain more bug reports (you'd hope).

    As mentioned in another thread, a vendor might want to include Firefox as the default browser (please include plugins) because they deal with SO many service calls regarding adware/spyware/viruses. I forget the statistic but it's mind-boggling and IE is costing vendors more money than it's worth.

    I'm not sure if "Your tax dollars at work" was a joke or not, but even as a Libertarian, I have no problem with this. If the government spends resources to educate some people and it ends up saving them hundreds of thousands in the long haul, then that is worth my taxdollars if you ask me.

    Then again, they should already know how to do this and learn for themselves, but a dollar saved is a dollar earned. Damn worms!

    Your reply here doesn't seem like it has anything to do with my post there, I'm kinda confused.

    I voted Bush because I don't want my taxes going up and I support his war on terror. I like working my ass off and having something to show for it. I'm actually a Libertarian but this was not the election to fool around with a 3rd party vote.

    My parent post was about Wal-Mart though, so I'm not sure what you were talking about :)

    I'm for complete energy deregulation, but keeping pollution controls of course. Then let it take its course.

    If the nuclear people are as smart as I think they are, they'll be able to get their pebble bed reactors going in a cost-effective manner and simply undercut oil in pricing.

    I think the technology is there to do it, from what I've read. The problem is the politics of it - proving to stupid Americans that it's safe. How to do that, I don't know. People are quite stubborn.

    I got no problem with Wal-Mart. I can now go there and buy a $10 cd.

    When I was shopping for an air conditioner for my room, I could have gone to Best Buy and spent 90, or go to Wal-Mart and spend 80, then use that 10 dollars to buy cheap beer.

    Why would i NOT go to wal-mart? Because Best Buy is "nicer"? Hah. I'd rather have cheap products and more beer

    Right now I'm in the middle of The Selfish Gene. Absolutely incredible book, life-changing perhaps. It's put a new spin on everything for me. I've always been a believer in evolution, but not educated enough about it.

    It's also turning me more into a capitalist libertarian. It's the only way things work best.

    Not sure about the rest of you, but I'm the ONLY one of my personal friends who is into open-source and slashdot and all this. My friends who use my laptop down here in the family room are well aware of firefox... but my push will be at the official 1.0 release.

    At that point, I'm going to e-mail all of my friends about it, and also put a "Take Back the Web" link in my AIM profile and start spreading the word. Firefox 1.0PR is ready for the masses, as ready as it will be. The only way it will get better is with MASS USAGE, and I'm on board with the 1.0 release party. I'm kinda excited to be honest.

    Why should I cheer for google? Because they have an awesome product and have done great things for our community.

    Why should you be so sour at google? Because they did it, and you didn't? Because they're brilliant, and maybe you're not?

    Go and "duplicate" their service, I dare you. You stand no chance.

    Google deserves every dollar they make, because they are the best ones doing it. Until you or anyone else can beat them, then put up or shut up. Or don't support them. I gladly will.

    This is exactly google's idea. Read the link, you might want to sign up for this and do business with them. Your entire book will NOT be put online. However, if something good comes up, I can read the excerpt and then click the "buy this book!" link and voila, everyone wins.

    Yet another ingenious google idea!

    Yeah yeah, mod this as funny, but this is the best idea google hasn't done yet. The porno industry makes so much money that it can barely be put into words. That's surprising to hear, but not everyone wants to deal with the latest kazaa or whatever to get their porn, and many people have specialized fetishes.

    Regardless, I think google has the technology and business practicality to make a killing on pornography. Either way, I'm still a huge google fan.

    Everyone's got some funny posts and all, but to be honest, I'm surprised it took them this long to do this!

    Red Bull + Alcohol has been popular for years, and the popularity of these drinks has grown at a crazy pace. The rage went from Red Bull / Vodka to "Bomb" shots and Sparks now.

    The market has been out there for this for over 4 years. Many of you are "appauled", but this will most definitely make money if it's priced right. As a college student and party-animal, we are constantly doing stupid things to our bodies for a great night. The problem has been that all other cheap solutions are liquor-based, not beer-based. Problem solved, sign me up!

    (And yes, I've put instant coffee into a pint of beer and chugged it. It works but isn't too great as you'd imagine)

    Your points are right, but the picture is bigger than this. This is something that will show how innovation, when left in the hands of private enterprises, thrives at a much higher level.

    The markets will take this where it needs to go. Having a group of government-paid people choose what should happen in space doesn't put things within the best interest of everyone else. Soon there will be a choice, and soon there will be a market.

    This is what freedom is all about. This is what socialist societies will never reach unless they steal it from us. I love this country. American and proud.

    Last time I checked, nobody's holding a gun to your friend's head and forcing him to work there.

    Talent gets paid better, and this policy should eventually hurt wal-mart. If not, then shame on the smart people being undervalued there.

    Evolution is one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) GPL applications, but I'll wait until they fix their alarms if that's for real. I use them all the time.

    On an offtopic note, I was reading The Salmon of Doubt (Stuff from Douglas Adams that you've probably never seen), which i lost and better find before the library charges me a hundred dollars, and he recommended reading The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. It's about evolution, and so far, it's incredible. I'm only a few chapters deep, but his reasoning, philosophy, and insight is great. Check it out if you are interested (or even an expert) on evolution. Disclaimer being that i'm not far into it so watch out.
