P.S.: Mandriva 4 ever, screw this Ubundu fad. Mandrake was the first user-friendly distro and still holds the crown. 8-)
Sorry, I can't let that go.
Yes Mandrake was the first user-friendly distro, but they messed up several times.
1) Adverts in the installer 2) All the.0 and.1 releases had new bugs. 3) Sacking of Gael Duval was the final straw. It shows the mentality of a lost management team.
Ubuntu has filled the gap left by where Mandrake could have been and Mandriva is.
As for Windows Media Player, even for Firefox, it doesn't work on Linux. [mozilla.org] Linux support is listed as "unavailable". Some programs can play some formats of.AVI files on Linux, but not the ones that require codec or DRM downloads from Microsoft servers.
I am not sure if this a troll or not, but I run Xubuntu and in Firefox I can watch WMV files and I can also listen to WMA files in pretty much any of the audio players. As for DRM, I don't know, either I have never seen it or it doesn't get in the way. I have yet to find a file I can't play. I watch DVD's and rip CD's happily.
Of course, I'm essentially talking out of my ass here. If anyone has more accurate information I defer completely to them. And it's possible that experimental equipment like this is handled entirely differently, or that private American hospitals are different. But that's what I know.
Remind me again how MS has actively blocked other companies from writing software that competes with their own? They haven't? Oh...so Google's just being a whiny little bitch here? Thought so.
So I install Opera, fine, now how do I remove Internet Explorer? I don't watch DVD's or listen to Music at work so how do I remove Media Player to free up some HDD space? I can't! That's the problem, all the bundled shit (yes that's the quality too) should be optional AND removable.
Dell's servers being overwhelmed doesn't mean there's an actual overwhelming demand for Linux, just that there's a lot of Linux users with time on their hands who wish to try and give that impression, at least until they lose interest and move on to something else.
I think you're wrong there. As much as there those who will fill out the form only to go off never to visit Dell again, I think a large number will support Dell IF they follow through.
Of course the proof will be in the pudding, but I can also see a fair number of people advised to go and buy a Linux machine at Dell by these same people. Dell can't really lose, unless Microsoft do something nasty to their pricing.
Do you happen to know the source of the data for that picture? I know the U.S. operates some very large phased-array radars that track hundreds of thousands of objects.
And when/if this group finally wins this lawsuit (French consumer law! yay!) HP will sell PCs without an OS in... France. And everybody will buy these PCs... yes, because Francois wants to install Ubuntu Christmas morning. Or better yet, buy Windows retail for $199 or whatever that's in Euros instead of getting it bundled for $40.
Oh yes, the "Microsoft tax". Always a winning argument.
Actually you may have a point. If I was buying a machine with Vista on I would prefer a retail copy, so I can use it when I buy the next machine. So this time I don't want the OEM version and next time I don't need any version as I already have one.
So it's not just Linux people who want this bundling stopped. Although I would also put Debian on it!;-)
All three examples fail to load properly.
I'm not sure what I am waiting for but http://www.picnik.com/ doesn't do anything, http://maps.yahoo.com/ offers a few links at the top and nothing else. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/home.jsp?locale=en_US does load, but there's a big hole where I guess the flash should be.
This is not a troll, I just wanted to see how good your good sites are, pretty bad is the answer.

Someone who's more stupid than most had mod points.
Muth be thomebody elth.
I used Mandrake then too, every new release broke something that used to work. New features are nice but what if I actually used the old ones?
The final point for me sacking of Gael Duval, nice touch and not a company I want to deal with.

I never thought I would read that on
No, this is just USSA users, not the whole Internet.
This should be every Slashdotters' signature! LOL

LOL so true! One of my customers put the mail servers in as mail.bogpond.com and I have been calling them that ever since.
Hey, at least it matches my Zune!
What nuclear? Missile?
If it's a rhetorical question, how come there is a reply to this under it?
Note: This story has been adapted from a news release issued by University of Bristol. i.e. Dumbed down for normal people.
I don't see why this has been modded down.
Second life is a game, education is not. Get the education through known (quantifiable) channels before playing with games.
Employers can be finicky about all aspects of your education, someone who gamed their diploma will struggle even if they are the best for the job.
That should be Holden v Ford.
I don't know many distros that sacked their founder. http://trends.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=06/03/

Damn, coffee and keyboards don't mix! LOL
It's 1pm here, so I was eating lunch! ;-)
:-)
I guess I would agree though, MS won't be able to match it, or they'll need to fix the fix.
I had mod points, but you're already +5 Funny, should be more.

Yeah right, everyone goes back to the original page, refreshes it, to make sure that nothing has been added before they hit submit. LOL
No that would be Centos, not Fedora.
