I'm surprised that no Indian universities achieved a higher ranking. They place much emphasis on competing in these sorts of programming challenges.
Could it be that that there are no clear cut top universities for learning to program in India - i.e. they are all reasonable? If that was the case, the programming talent would get spread out and the universities would not progress as far as those who manage to attract all the programming talent in a country. Just a speculation...
Also, what portion of the team members actually are from the country they attend university in?
Yes you would. Currently when going for health insurance you have to inform the company about all pre-existing conditions and even familial medical history. That way they can charge you the right amount relative to the risk they have of paying out. That is how insurance works. If you know you had a genetic defect, it will be required you tell them - you would expect a discount if you have tested negative so expect to pay more if you test positive. On the other hand, if you haven't been tested, and don't want to, then the insurance should not be able force you to take one. Some countries have laws preventing this but many countries still need to deal with that eventuality. It may take a while and, from a practical perspective, it still is only a minor issue at this time.
I haven't tried Wubi but I'm guessing its similar to the Debain Installer that I tried. I never had any trouble with that. You've got to love the Ubuntu wiki and its use cases!
You think three days is a record? In what way... there have been dupes on the front page at the same time. You must be talking about that three days was a long time before an article got duped.
(I was going to use the usual "you must be new here" but I looked at your number and decided it wouldn't work...)
Well if you coated a small room with this stuff it would be good as a torture technique. You just couldn't see the walls. Think about when you get up in the middle of the night and don't turn the lights on but worse. There would be a lot of bumps and bruises...
Given the five or so posts pointing out this was a dupe from this morning, who voted for this on FireHose? The status for this article was red indicating many people want this story on the main page. If anything, this shows we should probably give the editors a break... they made only one mistake based on the mistakes of a large number of readers.
I think the firehose is working very well at filtering dupes - a quick look found no "dupe" in the tags for the last few days. When was the last time that happened?
Any chair that is lodged in some part of your body due to its use as a projectile tends not to be comfy... In fact, I cannot think of an exception to that rule.
I'm impressed. A 30% to 40% increase of bust size over four women is somewhere between a 280% to 380% increase overall!
If this was anywhere else on the internet I might believe you but on Slashdot we have difficulty believing the girlfriend thing.
Tips and tricks for posting off-topic comments:
1. Do not use you karma bonus. Not only will mods overlook an off-topic post with a score of 1 but it limits your karma loss...
2. Hadn't thought this far when I started the post.
Now, should I listen to my own advise?
You do realize that the ad you link to is a New Zealand one, not an Aussie one? It even says so in the bottom left corner about 4 seconds into the clip...
I think we need a mod that is something like +/-1 "it was not funny enough to be not mistaken for flamebait so needed a disclaimer". I wasn't sure whether these sorts of comments deserved to go up or down a point.
Yes, I felt in the need for a rant today (not a disclaimer...)
Good question but there is one advantage to having so many links. The story has been on the front page for a while now and none of the links are slashdotted... I still didn't read them though so I can't help with you original problem.
Or will it mean film studios can stop movies from being copied when traveling on the internet?
Why is that sentence there? OK, there is a new type of encryption - but how exactly does that relate to capturing movies while the roam free on the internet?
Is there something I'm missing - perhaps a tubes joke...
I agree with the parent completely. There is no way Microsoft can stop people downloading random piece of shit and installing it on their computer. If every time you tried to install something there was a pop-up saying "Are you sure you want to do this?" people would complain about too many pop-up causing people to ignore them.
I suppose if the thirteen year old was in a non-root account there would be some stoppages but after enough going to the parent saying "I can't install this, it is essential, you can't use a computer without it... blah, blah, blah) the kid will be running as root soon enough. Especially given the majority of computer users do not realize they should run their computer as administrator. (written from a windows laptop logged in as admin...)

Basking under that removed what little tan I had and returned me back to my pale geeky goodness.
I'm not sure you did. My text to speech program had you sounding very monotone.

No trolling isn't necessary to have insightful discussions.
PS. Macs suck.
Well, actually spelling out the words would be a start...

I'll be fine, I don't believe in those entities anyway.

I'd say they would initially hand over one of those big novelty cheques. They are always good for big amounts of money.
Um not $80, it replaced a $20,000 dish. Just like is say in the summary. I can understand not RTFA but not RTFS...
As opposed to freezes where you are allowed to change things...

Not biting...

I may have been hallucinating (I don't like flying a consequently drink lots...) but I'm sure the Qantas IFE runs on Linux.
