They only allow 16 PCI-E lanes for the GFX card, so if you use SLI its really only 8 PCI-E lanes per GFX Card. 22 PCE-E Lanes total, only leave you 6 for the system, sounds like you could fill that up really quick. (2 are used for the chipset?)
But I guess, even SLI on 8 PCI-E kicks AGP's ass, so I shouldn't complain. Doubt you cna tell the difference between 8 PCI-E and 16-PCI-E lanes on current gfx cards.
I've been listening to some RNB lately, R.Kelly and a few others. One thing I noticed, is the music video channels for RNB do a better job at playing the music. So, I just grab the videos off my tivo and burn to cd, its high quality and I dont need to buy the CD for the song, when I really just wanted the video.
I havnt bought CD's from major record labels in years, mostly I'll buy a cd at the concert or people putting on shows. A couple CD's where CD's I couldnt find locally and had to order special from smaller labels.
And for daily music, I normally just listen to my paid subscription to Digitally Imported, or at last if its popular, iTunes.
I don't see the need to go buy CD's, most of the stuff I hear, I dont want. The closest thing is the local high school radio 89.5 Cube that plays techno/dance, and then its the remixes I want, and I cant find them.
It's a shame, about a dozen ways to sell me music, and the record industry isn't doing one of them. How about they talk to a customer and ask "How can I sell you music?"
I know if I had a millions of customer wanting to pay me money, I'd figure out ways to get it, other than pissing them off.
But then, I've seen CEO's tank companies for profit, no suprise that the the big labels arnt doing the same. You think the stock holders would do something about it.
What about Aqua makes you want to replace it with icewm?
Basically, I've been using computers for over 20 years, and Apples gui is just different enough, if I dont pay attention it gets me. It doesnt do what I want, key combos, pulldown menus, window orders, cut/paste, just enough to be a little different.
KDE/Gnome/IceWM/*step and Windows are about same on key combos. IceWM is my preferred as I can configure it, and I like the low profile task bar. Icon with text. I dont have to move my mouse over the aqua bar over each icon to figure out which one I want.
I want things to be visual and quick to choose. If I have to slow down or have think about how things work, its annoying. Reflex for using the same key combos for years, change is good, but too much change and you have to re-learn your normal work pattern.
It would be different if I was only using 1 OS at a time, I want things to be a little more standard. One of the reasons I use KDE applications so much under OSX. Konsole is great for a tabbed term program. Now if I could get a Tabbed Putty for XP.
If I had to say the perfect desktop for getting work done, is IceWM with konsole tabbed terms and tabbed mozilla. Quick, fast, and I can dont have to hunt for which terminal window to work on. And a program bar(dock/etc) that doesnt take up much room is exactly what I need.
I wont go into visual, OSX is by far the most nice looking GUI, just not my perfect choice, but then, my list of windows annoyances is large also. (Number 1 with a bullet is Pop up windows while in the middle of typing...)
It is kinda neat, booting into linux and launching OSX on maconlinux. But it wears off when you want to play a game.
I'm the other way around now, since I need to run applications, I stopped running linux, I just use cygwin. And under OSX I run darwinports/fink. Not always perfect, but sure beats rebooting into another OS or running a vmware window. I use to be hardcore linux, but with OS's and gnu native (or near native), I dont see the need to boot into Linux. If I could just replace AQUA with icewm, I'd be in heaven.
Also, now a Little off topic, but the one game everyone seems to be getting back into works on linux(x86),osx and xp. Warcraft Frozen Thorn. I guess since most major OS's can play it, no excuse for someone not being able to play it.
Microsoft stated they wanted to be the major company for home media, and following that trend of embrace, extended and buy out, you can expect more companies to choose microsoft due to cheap contracts with almost free support.
Microsoft is already trying to take the HDDVD consumer market with WM9, this is just another area for them to get a foothold.
It will be the same tactic they have used in the PC Vendor market for years. Microsoft will give the product away, vendors will bite, use the product, then get locked it.
And companies no longer look for the long term goals, just what makes money the next quarter. If HP was smart, they would stick with linux, develop the software they own, and pay no licensing fees. You think they would have learned from their past experiences with Microsoft.
Call me jaded, but I see the trend everywhere, sell/buy now, whatever makes my books look good this year. This is how CEO's dump and run companies, and why mergers are so common.
Now, think 5 years from now, HP's product will look like everyone elses, what will be the difference? Nothing, they use the same software, the hardware is off the shelf. The CEO's will sell HP, another merger. Meanwhile, another billion for Microsoft.
It's good to be the only vendor, the only one choice. Er, lack of choice I should say. I bet Microsoft's stock goes up again tomorrow from this news.
BitTorrent was intentionally designed not to hide IP addresses as its developer, Bram Cohen, openly acknowledges. That's because his goal wasn't to develop a P2P tool that could be used to share content illegally but to develop a P2P tool that reduced bandwidth for legally shared content, such as Linux ISOs, etc.

Ok, I'd say Ballblazer was my first FPS with multiplayer.
But for just plain 3d cube movements like the original Ultima, there was many of them (and the freaking wheel decoders) out. Bards Tales series, Might and Magic, list goes on.
Shame, just walked over to my c64, looking at all my disc's still in the cases. Lost my supersnapshot speedloader, cant find my old favorite game, or remember the name of it. An RPG, 4-5 disc, like Bards tale, but with an oriental theme, fire/earth/wind/water discs. Guess thats what happens when you don't touch the system in over 20 years... -Know your roots...

I think Secondlife is the only MMOPG (But is it a game?) that has virtual money you can use for real money to buy/pay for services from Lidenlabs.
I know some people in SL that actually have stores that sell stuff, just to pay the monthly service contract.
Finally had to switch my account to the free account (yes, they have free accounts) because I didnt have enough time IRL. But if you log on once a week, you get a little lidencash to buy things. I do miss the triva questions for Linden bux, but they seem to have active contests going on to keep people busy. Bingo, Coding contests, Avatar contests, etc. Very busy place.
It's also nice how the market drives the size of the virtual lands, more people and Liden buys more servers, subscriber grown turns hardware growth.

AWS built out EDGE before Cingular. AWS has the larger data network with more coverage. AWS has more RAN hardware than cingular. AWS launched UMTS, Cingular said they would continue it. AWS launched global roaming before everyone else. AWS has the largest wap/mmode content around. AWS has location based services, wifi, and many other services. AWS has many of the fortune 500 companies as customers.
AWS Hired an outsourcing VP 2 years ago, they ran IT into the ground, crippled customer support. Customer support use to be live, you could get people to fix your issues, it was going the way of automation and lower paid support centers. Then they started forcing contracts and fucked up billing for customers, no wonder usnet has tons of complaints.
The thing that pissed me off, they ran the company into the ground. Then the CEO's take almost 90 million each, while every employee that bought stock lost money. (Buy at 29, Cingular pays 15)
Our CEO's hired the worst marketing firm in history, fluffy sheep anyone? I wanted to see a damn van fully loaded with RF gear, pull over and leave the "Can you hear me now" guy in dust. We do drive tests all over. Cant hire enough people quick enough to expand the network. (BTS Vendors, thats a post in itself...)
Sad, it was a great company they ran into the ground to make CEO money and split. I started there 6 years ago after the mccaw buyout, been in operations ever since.
Top if off, Cingular has been calling our network substandard to theirs. Who are they joking? I talk to the same freaking vendors...
I can't get Verizon to fix my 6 meg dsl, since DSL isn't supported, only voice lines are. Lucky Speakeasy isnt charging me the 99 dollars a month because I cant use the service.
I'm close to the CO, but something is wrong with the burried wire, and Verizon wont help me locate the issue. They tested the house, Covad did testing, thought the DSLAM was bad because it was bouncing, tested my PID, but everything looks fine. Just 3-6 times a day, the line drops and reconnects, all freaking burried wire too.
I'd kill for 5/2meg for 40 bux a month, 99 for 6/768 DSL that doesnt work is major suckage. Lucky comcast has 3/256, so im not bandwidth less, I just can't host any of my domains.
Verizon has such bad policies on support on copper, fibre must be a god send to customers needing support... Could even switch to VoIP too.
I'd even shut down my vanity domain Fuck Verizon if they fixed my DSL! Currently I have it re-directed to verizon eats poop...

200W powersupply, average looks and average expansion slots.
Now I guess ok for a living room PC, but for small form facter lan party box, I'd pass. Been looking at the Frag box, now thats a nice looking PC.

Being opensource, we can change that.
I would of read the article, but I'm not signing up for Gamasutra.
Really, Editors, stop linking to subscription sites.
There are more BSD's distros than the top3 (Free/Net/Open), you have PicoBSD, Firefly BSD, Debian GNU/BSD, Gentoo BSD, BSDi, BSD-OS and Darwin.
Seems like lots of choices for BSD users.
Gentoo Sparc is the only sparc distro that is up2date on the sparc cpu/platform. SuSE/Redhat dropped support. :(
So if you want Linux on your Sparc machine, Gentoo has the most up2date desktop and packages.
I've always wondered why they dont send people who are use to sitting in a chair for months at a time. ;)
I know after I get HL2 I wont be on Slashdot for at least a week!

So 96 processors, AMD gets about 144K per PE node at 1500 per cpu, or does Cray get a discount?
Also, a 30,000 cpu complex, AMD must be making a tidy sum.
