Despite the shift from 2.9 to 4.4 million Lumia phones, and despite the fact that those phones sold twice as many Symbian phones, the choice of Windows over Symbian is in question? Symbian has a global reach and isn't going away overnight...
I understand the premise of this entirely, and I agree. It doesn't have to be that way, though. I maintain several FB Groups, which help me segment those social circles, allowing me to freely post things among a smaller subset without worry of offending someone else or sharing too much with someone who doesn't need to see everything I want to share.
Facebook Groups are fantastic. That is all.
There are plenty of people out there who thought CS was easy. It's because they didn't complete a real CS program. Devry, ITT, (insert your tech program here) are great for churning out people with knowledge of the latest and greatest technologies, but they aren't so great about teaching the theory and background knowledge that you're getting. Unfortunately, many people don't know the difference.
Very good point. Once you write low level operating system or networking code, or start messing with automata and algorithms.. then you have to be kidding if you say a CS degree is a joke. Every single student in my school's program has spent countless hours and likely many all nighters getting these assignments done.
I'm in the same boat - I'll miss an episode on TV and forget to set the VCR, and I don't have TiVo, so I go to bittorrent..
I really doubt they'll care too much, as long as they see those DVD revenues.. which they will. Sopranos and Band of Brothers had lots of downloads, yet their sales were still pretty high.
This seems to be just another case of a company not knowing how to deal with growing trends in technology. Give it some time, they'll come up with something that's good and fair to most people. Or so one would hope..
So.. they do some shameless self promotion, and they can't even keep their online chat up and running, knowing that they'll see the/. effect?
Or is it that they're using/. as an extreme test case to test their chat software/servers?
100% doesn't make any sense.. but certainly a larger percentage would be sensible. The RIAA is greedy and will take what it can at the expense of everyone.
How is sharing a source of where to illegal download files a crime?
If it is, then all major news outlets are just as guilty, because they regularly report on mp3 filesharing via various programs and networks.
I don't get it. If you do such a search for txt files, you get txt files. But if you do it for mp3 files, you get.. nothing, or next to nothing - depending on what keywords you use.
Don't they just filter for.mp3 extensions in filenames? Or so I'd think..
I don't know if it ever popped up on/. but Audioscrobbler is a great way to see what people REALLY listen to.
It's a free plug-in for lots of media players that uploads data about what you listen to. You can see what the community as a whole listens to, or you can see what people with similar tastes as you listen to. It's a great way to find new music.
noooooo!
math and science can be hard enough for many students - it's needless to complicate things with an accent that can be either hard to understand or just plain annoying

So /. took this one from fark and/or digg.. I know now that it must've been digg - because I don't freqeuent fark anymore these days..
I was going to say this was duped.. but then saw no other comments about that - I'm guessing I saw this on digg a WHILE ago.
Is it me, or is digg kicking /.'s ass? I just started frequenting digg, and am noticing that they beat /. to the punch on so many stories..
The fact that it was filed under 'games' meant that my workplace banned it... weak!
recepy? recepies? rediculous? the spelling errors are killing me! not to say i don't at least somewhat agree with your points, though..
Haha, indeed..
Interesting, BUT that infomation is 4 years old..
How is this "insightful"? It's clear he was being sarcastic.. or apathetic.
That is the worst metaphor I've ever heard. MySQL = Ikea? Lame.

to be content is to lack the craving to better oneself Self improvement is masturbation

Ha, good catch
haha, genius!
