Seems to me it's yet just another mechanism with which Bush Co. will cover up (or at least hamper investigations into) the rampant croneyism between themselves and the lucky few working off no-bid contracts overseas.
And can any of us really say we're all that surprised?
With Sony, 'defective' == caught, busted, outed, 'not rootkit-y enough', et cetera.
Hmm. Makes sense to me. Lord knows the first thing I blamed when I got caught with my hand in the cookie jar was the company that made the step ladder.
"But Michael Suffredini, space-station program manager, said Friday he did not expect the crew to have to abandon the station. He said the computer failure did not threaten the crew's safety"
Hilarious. I'd say the fact that the shuttle Atlantis' boosters are the only thing keeping the ISS from going ass-over-teakettle is one helluva threat.
Anyone else here find this article lacking? I'm as thrilled as the next guy that alternatives are being sought out by, well, any Gov't agency. But now what I'd like to see is an article detailing the cost associated with the transition from COTS to FOSS and its associated learning curve.
"Fresh from a very long Windows 2000 experience and a four-month Windows XP experience along with a long-time Linux sys admin role puts me in a great position to assess Ubuntu."
TFA reads less like a comparison of two OS's than an Ubuntu sales pitch. Granted, I use and love Ubuntu, but I like my side-by-sides with a little less bias from the get-go.
Setting a tiny notebook against a tiny Asian woman kind of negates the 'WOW factor' of such a slim notebook. I would have suggested having Ving Rhames hold it, but that's just me.
Being caught in an elevator with one person with B.O. is bad enough, now they're trying to populate entire offices?
This should only fly if you work for Hawaiian Tropic or Victoria's Secret, and they happen to have co-ed showers.
...Apple and Microsoft could very easily produce a modern *-lite version of their respective OSes and sell them to people with older or not maxed out hardware...
...a company we want to go to for 'net connectivity? If I wanted to deal with dropped connections and insane overage charges I'd warp back to '96 and dial-in to AOL.
This solution isn't nearly as obvious as you'd like to think. I just set up a small home office for a "typical end-user". Two phone lines were installed, one for voice/DSL, another just for fax. You know what she did with the fax line? She installed an answering machine.
You really must stop giving people the benefit of the doubt!
It's a pop-up book? Sorry, couldn't resist.

...if we all build one at home, what happens when SkyNet becomes self-aware?
Does this mean we'll all eventually owe someone major $$$ for listening in on cosmic background radiation?? Pfffft, thanks for nothing, science!
Galactic Virgins, found most notably in parents basements and Star Trek conventions nation-wide.

Sounds like 1.2 Petabytes of hurt if and when that thing bytes the dust.
You know Pete, some people just don't like to talk about their flair...
