Not that any of the parents post isn't true, it is, but I think it's a pretty safe bet that there's a lot of people on here (me included) that would just about sell our souls to be able to take a ride on one of those bombs, risks be damned. Joe Sixpack isn't intrested in scientific discovery (I know, I live with a bunch of them). They like adventure (shuttle missions or especially something like Apollo) or pretty pictures that look nice on their desktop. And as to the "faster, better cheaper", it seems like NASA should focus on 2 out of 3.

Not necessarily. Most people today, even scientist and engineers, would have trouble duplicating some of the Greek and Roman technology. When technology is dubbed obsolete it is often forgotten. Computers today work on almost the exact same princaples that the first electronic computers did. Allow for the intrduction of some other means of making a computer work that renders what we use today obsolete, maybe a dark age or massive disaster and I would bet we couldn't reconstruct a P4.

Dunno, but from my observations of people playing, lots of person handles 3D movement very poorly. My brothers and most of my game playing friends are able to fairly consistently beat me (by a small margin) in games like GT2 or anything where you're mostly concerned with front-back, left-right movement. Switch to a flying game (especially if the ground is there) and I can usually take on several of them at once. Oh yeah, and Descent 2 kicks major ass, almost as much as Freespace.....I miss Volition....

Yeah, most of them I know would be thrilled not to need government money, but a lot of farmers are having trouble keeping their heads above water. For example, a few years ago a large corperation in my area bought out most of the hog operations in the area, driving down the market price of pork but making sure those people who sold out were being paid like employees. All well and good if they wanted to give controll of what was ofen in the family for generations to someone else but the people who didn't sell out, like my neighbors, had losses that were in the $10k to $100k range, driving them out of their buisness. The only thing that saved them was government money.

As I look over my mental list of "good games I have played", more than a few can be played on a 486 and all will work on a P3 with a $25 graphics card. Playability is being sold out to lookability and thats going to kill the industry, I want my games to be fun, I want an engaging story and if theres time after all that is done then some pretty graphics! Is that to much to ask? I still play NetHack, MOO, Half-Life and Mechwarrior2, good graphics are nice but they aren't paramount...maybe the industry is in need of some serious surgery right now, remove some mainstream cancer from it.....

I have to agree with the parent. I go to school with a younger than average student, and even though 14 is a lot older than 18, he still dosen't fit in to well. God, I'm repeating all that was said to me about being homeschooled but, smart as he is I really doubt that he could interact with college students on any level outside of the classroom and most likely even in the class room he will have trouble (people in general are egotistical and don't like being proven wrong or shown up by some 8 y.o. chump). Also, not being in school with other kids his age is most likely impare his social development. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've delt with a few child geniuses and personally I can't stand most of them. Being to much smarter than the average person makes it hard enough to communicate effectivly, the kid dosen't need it made any harder. Stay in school for the social interactions and so forth, take college level classes at home or something but don't go to a university. If he graduates at 10, what is he gonna do then?
