You start gaming with all lights in the room off, and some stickers on the monitor power button, to make sure reality does not disturb the immersion. Then as you sneak past some hammerites you feel the urge to light up your room just slightly.
Since there exists a multitude of ways to defeat door locks, they are useless to stop burglars. Save yourself a couple of bucks and use a hinge instead.
They matter as good as any election. Either you make sure "they" dont win, or you make sure you rule whoever wins. Who cares if the muppets has a doneky or an elephant as logo as long as you are the muppeteer.
One first move could be to try to control the widespread corruption. Another move could be to ensure that politicians see the intrest of people not corporations. (If you work as CEO one day and writes laws the other day, what Is your wiewpoint? How unselfish can you be?)
If all webhosts have equally bad security, I understand why its so damn expensive. Its the same with banks, they know credit cards are insecure, but its easier to pay the customers bills than to fix the problems. The customers always pay for it anyway in the end.
"The format you are about to save to does not support all features of Microsoft Office(TM). Would you like to save your document in the Open Document+ [1] format that is fully compatible with Microsoft Office(TM) instead?"
[1]Open Document+ is a E3 ceritfied procuct that works only in Microsoft Office (TM).
There is still place for interesting games if people can apreciate the sport instead of the sports-product. If you MUST have the correct player names and ads, you have to pay those who invested large amounts of money into that corporate business game. If you love the sport you can play New York Pirates vs. Washington Baboons or any other fake names.
Im currently playing rFactor, a game (or maybe a mod-platform) free from licensed brands and to me its just as fun as if it had Porsches, Toyotas and Michael Schumacher)
I like your analogy, becuase I think it compares so well.
You put a new powerful engine in the bug, and can drive theoretically 100mph, but the bug isnt made for it, and you need a fat front splitter to be able to steer it above, say 60. What I mean is, new fast CPU in an old computer is a waste of good computrons. I think the idea of a modular MB could be good but for other reasons.
PVR is just a bad idea forced upon you by backwardsthinking providers. Why should everyone have to store the same episode locally, and make sure their expensive toy is programmed to record it? Video on demand have existed for a long time. You start your cheap setopbox, browse through the virtual video store, select a movie and watch it, instantly. What are the providers waiting for?
Thats becuase Brussels is hijacked by corrupt politicians and corporate lobbyists. All politicians arent corrupt but it doesnt matter since all they hear all day long are the arguments of the lobbyists who all bring the same corporate viewpoint. I think you can substitute Brussels for Washington or any other Politic center and it holds equally true.
EU brings many good things, but also a lot of risks for total disaster.
I have only seen two shows, but their logic reasoning is OK but imagination seams similar to 13 year olds. I annoyed my cowatchers with frustated calls for intelligence.
Its like watching a slasher movie shouting "-Nooo! Don't go naked into the dark alley!!!11 The killer is in the alley!!!!" I suspect the show to be cut and scripted for that effect. The whole team cant be so unimaginative and under educated, most sollutions are high school level science.

The commercials are only one of the reasons I threw out my TV several years ago. Programs are shown when I dont want to watch them. The channels waste money on bad shows Im not interested in, and channels are sold in packs, meaning i would have the 4711 channel super pack just to see a few shows. Sure, I have to wear an eyepatch and a wooden leg to see any shows but I can see them when I want fastforward etc. it gives me freedom.
Besides most shows are not worth my time anyway. Talkshows, for example, often consists of maybe 10 minutes of entertainment the rest is "We will soon be visited by artist nn", "Dont go away, we will be back after the commercials", "welcome back from commercials, we will soon be visited by artist nn, but first a jingle from our house band", "We thank our house band for the jingle and take a short break for commercials".
Netflix is NOT a alternative for me, maybe if I ripped all rentals it could work decently.
What would be an alternative would be video on demand (VoD) with playlists, show is slow: skip 10 minutes to see if it speeds up, show did speed up: rewind and continue, show still suck: next show. Those who can stand commercials could be forcefeeded unskippable ones and get a discount.
I hope that one day I will chanting "The TV is dead, long live the TV." Until then, "Arrrr!"
Magazine ads, few are a problem only the ones that looks like articles are. The rest gets sorted out by my subconciousness before I notice them.
TV ads, well I hate them so much I threw the TV out "Torrent all the way baby". A good video on demand service might win me back some day.
Flash ads, Im learning to ignore them. I use the zoom and sometimes "User mode" in Opera to be able to read articles surrounded by distracting shiny objects.
Sound on web pages, few web pages gets a second visit if they got sound in them, if its sound in ads even fewer.
Corporate web pages, 99% are useless, If I want to buy a car I'd rather google than go to the carmakers web site. All they give is flashy marketspeak, I want to know the fuel consumption and if it can accelerate fast enough for safe overtakes.
Spam, worst one ever, email is dead. Its like getting a bank statement which ends with "This is how it could look if you used our makemoneyfast-plan, turn to see you real lousy debt report." Spamassassin is quite good but one false positive could mean disaster for me so I still have to double check lots and lots of junk.
Telemarketing, the swedish do-not-call list works quite well, if it diddnt my mom would prolly have to "Press 3 if you are a relative".
SMS, I get only about 4 sms spams a year, so its no problem yet.
Pre cinema trailers, DEATH TO SPOILING TRAILERS! They forced me to torrents. I miss the cinema sometimes but I DO NOT want to know who the killer is, neither do I want to see the punchline for all the jokes. I could buy the DVD but parallel importing is forbidden by the media monopolies and I usually cant wait that long (in fear of spoilers ruining the fun).
I dont block web ads becuase the sites I visit deserves some income, if they go over the line with intrusive ads, I stop visit them. I am 100% sure I want to visit thech sites that pays their bills with ad revenue than corrupt ones taking bribes from manufacturers they are supposed to review products from.
Fun anectdote: My friend forgets the light on the car and battery runs out, so the remote for the locks dont work, and since he hasn't use the key for years the mechanic locks are rusty. We were quite suprised that it wasnt even possible to slim-jim it (usually a life saver when the locks freeze). The locksmith wasnt expensive, but it still hurts my geek-self-respect to be unable to solve such an easy problem.
While I was stocking up on green markers for my CD's at my local Hi-Fi shop, they also sold me this cellphone antenna booster, its great! Now I can use the phone in the cellar and I get a much clearer sound and a way better dynamic range. I want back and bought some for my friends phones, so now all my calls are in high quality. Now I just need smaller batteries for my electrostatic head set.
Dip them all in NoBite nail polish :) Naaaa, I think DUPLO is better.

s/headlight/number plate light/ That should fix your analogy.

Embrace, extend & extinguish
The CEO is not working for the company, he is working for the owners. His work is to maximize the owners profit, nothing else.
Could someone please patent suing and license at a high commission and we'll get rid of the scourge once and for all.

Add bitlbee and you dont have to care about those clients, you can irc, and you dont need to care about what they run after you added them.

The downfall of the Greeks is similar to ours, they had slaves, we outsource. (Fred Phelps claims other similarities)
