When I was young my parents made sure that if I was going to play video games with violence in them that I understood that it was pure fantasy and disconnected from the real world.
Parents of kids these days see video games more as a baby sitter, and these kids are left to have their mental state molded by what they watch and play rather then having a parent there to help them to realize where fantasy ends and reality begins.
1. Mental health, especially undiagnosed mental health issues. In this society, all you can do if someone has issues is either pay for them to get treatment, or start a process that's going to get them confined in mental institutions.
Any time anyone mentions making health care (let alone mental health care) more accessible in this country for people who need it everyone starts screaming; "SOCIALISM IS EVIL! HOTDOGS AND APPLE PIE! COMMUNISTS ARE GOING TO TAKE OUR FORD TRUCK! FIREWORKS!", and other random capricious propaganda.
Then a school shooting happens and people start screaming we need to make health care more accessible for people who need it.
I used to use Thunderbird but then I got a job. I'd happily switch back to Thunderbird if they'd add in Exchange support like every other mail client on the planet.:(
Being owner to a couple of different tablets I wouldn't mind trying out the eBook scene but the fact that eBooks cost just as much, if not more even, then the physical dead tree versions it just isn't economical to me.
If both formats are around the same price then I would rather have the physical dead tree copy that I can do what I please with which includes re-sale rights under the First Sale Doctrine that corporate America has been hell bent on destroying for the past 200 years.
Maybe you'll want to look at Minetest instead?
Granted it's not as polished as Minecraft yet but; it's open source, the engine is written in C++ and the gameplay logic is written in Lua.
I plan to contribute something to the project once I find some free time on my hands.
Experts-Exchange? Well I guess I'm not getting hired then!
On a more serious note I'm so glad Stack Overflow (and the rest of the Stack Exchange family) came along to single-handedly crush that P.O.S. Expert's Exchange website.
Maybe, but there is a certain amount of etiquette expected of professionals.
It's like nobody bothers to teach their kids good manners anymore and those kids end up throwing vulgar insults at each other as adults even in a professional environment.
All the news lately surrounding Linus Torvalds makes him look like arrogant and hotheaded.
Even if dropping the bomb on somebody is justified I'd expect more professionalism from somebody of his stature rather then resorting to juvenile insults and grotesque metaphors.
As an MSDN subscriber I ran Windows 8 for a few months but after awhile I went back to Windows 7.
I rarely ever used Metro except for the really polished Windows games and the UI for Windows 8 is so incredibly ugly. I'm not typically so vain as to rate an operating system based on it's appearance but Windows 8 is just hard to look at with all the flat colors on each other with no way to adjust the appearance apart from what flat colors you want.
It would not have been so bad had Microsoft let us keep Aero transparency for the desktop UI.
Perhaps I will return to Windows 8 when it has more time to mature, or when Stardock finally gets around to releasing WindowBlinds for Windows 8.
I would have no problem with the idea of allocating a portion of tax revenue for a communist social service like a government-operated postal service instead of spending so much money on the Department of Offense.. err.. I mean Defense.
I love this series. The scenarios that he works out are so absurd it's hard not to be laughing the whole time while reading (and visualizing) Randall's explanation.
I had a hard time keeping it together while imaging a giant rain drop dropping down on one house or imaging someone dropping a steak from space for the purpose of cooking.
I always turn off wifi when leaving my house or another spot where I use wifi such as a friend's house. I'm not sure who in their right mind would leave wifi on except for maybe clueless teenage girls who got a smartphone because it's "cool" and really don't know how to use it.
Being a developer (albeit not a FFOS developer) does anyone know how one can obtain one of these phones?
I'm under the assumption though that these preview "developer" phones are only available to a inner-circle FFOS developer clubhouse.
The simulator is nice and all but nothing beats hacking with the real hardware.
Nor any mention of Outlaws!
That game was like "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" turned into a video game.
Phrenology returns with a vengeance for the public to swallow along with a variety of cancer curing pseudoscience!
I got modded as troll. I guess the mods don't have a sense of humor, or the trolls happen to have the mod points today.
When are they going to come out with a satellite that will let me inspect the gravel in my driveway?

You just can't win either way.

I bought Master of Orion 3 a few years ago in a bargain bin and I still haven't figured out how to play it!
You now have 15 seconds to comply. You are in direct violation of Penal Code 1.13, Section 9.
If I've learned anything from Hollywood it's that we'll finally trust robots right before they kill us all.

No, he moved to America.
I haven't seen a single photo of him with an assault rifle and mullet.
Now you have.

Professionalism seems to be dying a slow death.

Still looks better then Windows 8 though

Thanks! +1 Informative

The better question is; how hard is it to operate in Middle Earth?
Can someone post how to trace a killer's IP address in Java?
