I refuse to buy anything from Ubisoft until they remove it completely. At least EA had the good sense to minimize their DRM, and in some cases removing it completely, when their new releases at the time went down in history as the most pirated games ever; more specifically Spore.
I thought about this too. We have such a broken education system to the point that its because a bureaucratic paper pushing institution and a poster child for election campaigns.
I think I understand the intent of this law but teachers can often inspire their students to reach for great achievements if they're allowed to interact with their students and not have to treat them like drones. The type of teacher I'm talking about are ones like Erin Gruwell.
Everybody has their own tastes but for those coming from an MSVC background but are itching to try out new features I highly recommend CodeLite: http://www.codelite.org/
Anybody who says we're having an overpopulation crisis never took a drive thru the mid-western United States.
There is plenty of land for everybody for both farming and residence so the problem is in invisible fences; politics and economics.
Landowners horde huge amounts of land and in some cases horde it for particular purposes like tourist development (I'm looking at you Hawaii!) and in the end land ends up being too damn expensive to be of any use for anything pratical.
I could go on with a list of reasons but it boils down to the fact that most of the world is based on civilization that promotes monetary or political gain.
We're seeing some cool new programming environments show up too.
I've always preferred Visual Studio and I never did like Code::Blocks or DevC++ but I found CodeLite relatively recently and I love it!
I find Visual Studio's price tag combined with the gradually improving open source tools make it difficult to stick with VS but maybe that's just me.
The MPAA has found the solution to all kinds of crime! Instead of going after individual perpetrators we should instead go after the post office because the post office allows people to exchange everything from child porn to music discs and does nothing to discourage it!
Obviously you haven't played Penumbra Overture. Once we have figured out how to make worms the size of semi-trucks then the shit will hit the fan and no bunker will be safe!
That is an insane idea, and naturally being an insane idea the MPAA would laud it, however what happens if there is an emergency in your theater and the people inside have no way of getting in touch with the outside world?
What happens if there is a mad gunman and nobody has a way out of theater or reaching a pay phone and notifying the police?
I've heard horror stories about SSRI's, and even witnessed it myself in a friend, but when the doctors finally put me on an SSRI I felt a lot more in control of my body; I was no longer having anxiety attacks and my depression was a lot easier to manage though still present.
Its good that it worked out for me but its unfortunate not everyone gets these results. In fact I think some physicians rely too much on medication as an end-all-solution-next-patient-please and a lot of people that don't necessarily need to be medicated end up walking around like zombies under the influence of mind altering drugs.
We in the U.S. have the Fifth Amendment -- protection against self-incrimination, and luckily a federal judge ruled in favor of the fifth amendment in a similar case. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-9834495-38.html
Unfortunately the direction that our country has been going (i.e. PATRIOT act, etc..) I don't know how long this protection will last.
Meh. That hologram you linked to on engadget looks impractical and not very scalable because it requires a mirror rotating at high speeds.
Its nothing like this.
Yes, it is primitive but its the closest thing to what we've seen in science fiction yet. Hopefully they will expand on this and improve on its resolution.
And why would they? Enforce copyright law -> send money to Hollywood, don't enforce copyright -> money stays home.
Also, China is a communist nation and even though they have adopted some capitalist ideals they still are a remnant of the Eastern Bloc.
The West needs to remember that China is a communist super power before trying to pressure capitalist ideals onto them, such as copyright enforcement, and expecting them to play along.
Press Alt+F2, type in "gconf-editor" (w/o quotes) and then click "Run." On the left, navigate to "apps->metacity->general", and then on the right look for a key called "button_layout." Right click and click "Edit Key" and change the value to "menu:minimize, maximize, close" (w/o quotes) and click "Ok."
Your button layout should now instantly be back to normal.
I tried to tell her it's not about scale but aspect ratio but she said it just doesn't feel the same :(

Dear god I wish Mozilla would go back to long-term releases, or even just a six-month development cycle like Ubuntu.
Well there is a bright side; you'd be well shielded from radiation in that suit.
How cute, you actually believe in democracy.
If you think this is impractical then why are you on Slashdot then?

Haha I wish I had modpoints right now. Puns are usually cheesy but once awhile you come across a gem.
This will make your life easier by a hundred fold: https://code.google.com/p/dwarftherapist/
Yeah, actually thanks but I was being sarcastic though.
Being a grammar nazi just tell yourself it's the German translation of "Firefoxes." I'm sure that will make you feel better.

I compiled it from their SVN repository. If I recall correctly its rather straight forward and it uses the awesome cmake build system.

I'd prefer to bash Wine because you get a better idea of whats going on when you run it from the terminal.
*ducks*
