That is what it is about. Alot of people out there claim that Linux is hard to use and understand, when the reallity is, that it is just different than what they are use to. Hopefully, this will create the first generation of Linux users who are not comprised mostly of "Geeks". I hope that this will inspire poeple to give Linux a chance.
OMG, your right, that is so much easier. I overshoot that damn menu button every time. Now if I can only navigate the whole GUI that easy. The mouse is such a complicated device. I don't see how anyone should be allowed to use one without a certification. I have people ask me every day "Why do they not have all the buttons on the edges of the screen. The ones in the middle are so hard to click. "
Thank you for showing me to the light after all these years in the dark. I am no longer scared to use my computer.
I have played UT2004 under it and it seemed to get alot of mouse lag but their Linux client does the same thing and a Windows box almost identical in hardware did the same thing so I dont think it was a problem with Cedega or Linux for that matter.
Other than that it dosen't work perfect with all games, such as Guild Wars where the cuser goes invisible every once in a while and some perfomance issues, so its still not perfect but it gets better. Also your account gets you votes to decide on which games they work on and ussaully have good support on the most popular games.
I also haven't tried 5.0 but hopefully will soon. So to some it up I still play most of my games on Windows but hopefully get some better Linux compatible hardware in my next machine to use it on.
Wow... funny how those pretty Apple colors go straight to people's heads.
I have heard this argument a million times; Mac doesn't crash, Mac doesn't have viriuses, Mac is so easy to use. That is because Apple controls the software AND the hardware. Easy to accomplish these things if you can test every hardware configuration.
I like the fact of being able to get some old hardware someone gave me and still be able to make a usable box out of it. Of course Linux doesn't have one group representing the whole, THAT'S THE WHOLE IDEA, Linux is about having something that is easily customizeable AND it is free, so haveing one group to make the standards and try to make the whole "community" go the one direction would be shooting itself in the foot. Some dists choose to be user friendly (Ubuntu and Linspire) while others can be used mainly for servers, power users, developers, firewalls, routes, network analysis, PC repair, and much, much more.
For the same reason you cannot say "Linux has secuity flaws" because there are so many versions that it does not apply to all of them unless your saying that the very kernel has flaws. Same thing applies to viruses. Yes Mac may offer these things but so does Linux.
I would have to say the biggest challenge in starting to use Linux is to find a dist you feel comfortable with because there is so many different ones that it seems overwhelling.
Only if a game developer would release a live CD as a game. They would strike gold. Even if they release a version a linux they could still provide the source code on their website free to download, and still sell the discs because nobody would be able to burn them on a rev disc and we would basicaly pay them for the packaging and support. Even people who has never even known about linux would buy it.
They are talking about the scripting and low-level functions. Programing for a new type of controller will seem like a walk in the park compared to hellish CPU functions. Besides Nintendo said they would help developers adapt to the controller in their games sort like they did to the MP demo they had.
when Doom was blamed for curupting America's youth on the news all the time, and now its getting a movie. Wonder how long before GTA gets a movie? Bets anyone?
I don't know about you guys, but games do a better job scaring me than movies. It's probaly the fact that in a movie all the stuff is hapening to the people in the movie, but in a game it feels like it happens to you.
Also one of the scariest moments to me was in Undying when the ghost jumps out in front of you the first time. Something about trying to shoot it and your bullets going right though him.
I just got done playing that part in Doom3 like ten minutes ago. It was pretty scary. I was just thinking WTF when it happened because I thought I died or somethin.
Yeah SBC are a bunch of coporate bastards who like screwing people over. And its near impossible to stop using there services. They are the only phone company in our area, has the only DSL service, and they own Cingular. They pretty muched forced all the other companies out then starts screwing people, who can't do nothing about it, because its the only service available. To top it off they do alot of the cabling jobs in the area and screw them up because the people who do it are not certified and half off them cant even speak english.
Its not a marketing ploy for people who already made up there mind but for the ones that can't decide yet. They might think oh no if I dont get one right away I wont get a chance for a while if I decide I want it. They want people to buy them without figuring out how much it sucks first. It happens every time, poeple buy the consoles on launch then relize that they realy didn't want it. If you don't beleave me just go see how many used systems are up for sale about a month after launch.
Your not supposed to sit your laptop on your lap, and anyone who thinks otherwise is just stupid. That's why they're generaly called notebooks instead of laptops by computer comp... *Sudenly realizes laptop batery melts and burns lap* aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... .
Good post, but I only partialy agree with you, the difference between shows like sesame street and violent video games is that saseme street is something a 4 year old would watch and no 4 year old should not be anywhere around video games of that nature. Once a child has learned moral values and they hae been cemented in, they can start playing more violent games based on how mature they are. A 13 yoer old can be mature to play a game that some 17 year olds shoudn't play. But at the same time you dont want to shield it from them when they are mature enough. Let them have a semi violent game and when the mature more let them have something more violent. I believe that good parenting not only sheilds them from bad things, but let them know how to deal with it so when they play games when you can't be there to parent them it doesn't warp their minds. So the problem with those types of laws is that children don't mature at a certain age. It should be up to the parent to decide when the time is right, while I dont agree with alot of people with the way they teach their children, they still have the right(exept in extreme cases) to decied whats right for them. Society's role in this is to assist the parent in good teaching, not take away the parent's duty.
What happens in state law foreshadow what may happen in the federal government. Think about every major federal law or admendment. Once one state does it other states start thinking about it, which is already happening if you RTFA. Once it cathes on in the majority of the states, then its considered for a federal law. What we need to do know is think about it and be prepared when it hits your state. Ideals are like plagues, good or bad you need to know how to handle it.
Sure the politicians were put into office by voters but most voters out there don't like any of their choices and decide to chose the lesser of two evils, because the way that the majority of the politicians get put on the ballat in the the first place is by lying, cheating, and stealing. Then they want to look like they 're battleing evil one bill at a time to get the attention of voters, So they go on there crusades against the "evil" that is not thowing the most money their way. But we a sopposed to follow blindly saying its for the greater good. Sure politicians want to look like there doing the right thing, but just want to do the most profitable thing.
I grew up in a single parent family, where my mom also worked full time on night shifts to support us. Do you think she had enough money to hire a babysitter 4 or 5 days a week. Most of the time it was me and my two brothers by ourselfs at night. She wasn't able to shield us from violent movies and games, she didn't care that we played them as long as it wasn't too bad. She made sure we was mature enough to play/watch them. She didn't need the goverment telling her that we couldn't do this or that. I know people who were never allowed to play/watch anything rated above their level. When they got a chance to play M rated games or watch non-rated movies it affected them more than it ever affected me. Think about it, when you were a kid an some one denied you something that made you want it even more, even if you didn't want it that bad to begin with. To me it was never a big deal so I might have played the ocasional M game every once in a while but I didn't enjoy them more than my other games, to this day I still play a variety of games of all ratings. Go talk to a kid that their parents hardly ever let there kids play M games and ask them the type of games they like, then talk to a kid that who can play them more often if they like. Now I'm not saying this always holds true, kids will sometimes play M games because "all the other kids are playing them" But peer pressure is a whole other topic.
I just decided to read up on Trusted Computing. What happens if I need to replace some hardware, say my motherboard which I have done three times in the past year (unrelated note: always get the four year extended warranty with Dells). Does all of my "trusted" software become unreadable? Screw that, I will never buy TC anything if thats the case.
So your saying that WOW2 will only play on windows vista? I highly doubt that they would retrict themselfs like that. Just think about how many people are not using XP but Win2k instead to play their favorite games. Shoot, I know people who play on 98 and *gag* ME. More than likely it will still play on XP too as long as the hardware meets the requirments.

Yeah but you have to admit the price ussaully tilts the other direction.

In fact to protect your privacy everyone needs Trusted Computing on their PCs with only "offically" licenced OSs such as Windows Vista.

You mean like how M$ wants to team up with Ford to make cars that don't crash http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2005-05-01-micro soft-cars_x.htm
No pun intended.

The Bible is also the most shoplifted book too.

But what fun is that?
