Uploading at max is more like a DoS of your modem. Yes, it does basically "eat" the connection. Unfortunately, since my DSL isn't 1:1, I download at 5 times (by personal limit) by 1 times upload just to be nice. Because a D/U ratio of 15:1 isn't nice to the BT community.

I know a simple fix to AOL problems.
Don't write it with buffer overruns everywhere. The unofficial Gaim client has protocol limits on profile information and buddy icons. That's more than AIM 5.9 (I haven't messed with Triton, too much bloat).

Nek0d3 figured this out a long time ago. And what do they have to show for it? Several versions of their client, AIM Remix, that can crash most AIM clients. Mind you, AIM remix was written in visual basic, which is not a complex language.
It's sad when a third-party slap-together program can DoS, portscan, and abuse the server, while the other official client (with funding) has stumbled a lot.

Memory hierarchy is changing, and the evidence is in a local PC shop. Ok, first, I admit I'm not that knowledgable of memory hierarchy, supercomputers, or specifics in hardware. But I will say that they have helped the development of better systems. My 64 Bit system is 600 MHz less then my old system, but runs faster. Why? It keeps on par with instructions from ram and storage, as well as input. It doesn't clutter the bus. It simply takes what it actually uses.
Back in the 90s and early 00s, we kept saying more central power. That's no good if the bottleneck is right ouside the processor.

    My Two Cents.

  17. Re:Excellent FPS? on F.E.A.R. SDK Released · · Score: 0

Ir's hard to say that F.E.A.R. is a bad game. Although I will admit, yes, it's just another FPS, it does have some kick-ass in the A.I. Development. It's nice to know that the enemy doesn't leave you in a blind spot for two hours.

Of course, some will complain, saying it sucks. Go for it. I like it, and it seems many other people did.

For the person a few posts above: I played Doom 3, HalfLife 2, and F.E.A.R. I quit Doom 3 because, quite frankly, Doom 1&2 are more exciting.

And finally, onto the actual subject. A new SDK means more mods. More mods means more fun. Does anyone speculate that this may end up like counter-strike in the way of mod ideas?

I don't get how this is "news".

    My reasons for dumping WinMX:

First off, the only reason WinMX fails in comparison with some networks or programs is because there is no tagging. All of the files are indexed by filename. One difference in a byte and then it becomes a completely different file.

Second, the news section of WinMXs site hasn't been update since the middle of last year. Surely a sign of lack in production?

And third, because there are those nifty key word whore files that are ads from some cheap or nonexistant porn site.

However, back when it did work, there were some awesome chat rooms. And the diversity of files is amazing. But those are gone now.
