100% automatic? ok. so what you are saying is, you have no idea if photosynth works for real or not. You say that it works by intelligently looking at photos and constructing a 3D model out of the photos, but that is not what the demo does!. I have downloaded the demo, and it does not look at photos, nor does it construct anything! The demo is a static walkthrough that at most shows off what the interface to the front end ov some potentially awesome software might someday look like.

In other news, I have a demo ov 100% intelligent AI software - Just log into #xhrit on freenode and you can have a conversation with me^H^H it.

Is anyone else a little underwhelmed by their so called 'demo'? It seems like the program does not contain any ov the technologies that are being 'developed' at microsoft, and is instead a hard coded 'interactive movie' showing how this 'new technology' is supposed to look, if they ever get it working.

Most likely this barley interactive photosynth demo will be used to secure patents on '3D Virtual Reconstruction', and the final product will ship with no such features, instead being marketed as an alternative to adobe lightroom.

Am i wrong? Well, can anyone tell me that photosynth is really a working 3d-photo-viewer? and if the technology is there, why cant i open my own photos in it instead ov just viewing the sample photos? Does photosynth really do anything that can't be faked in flash? And if it cant, they who is to say that it is not being faked in photosynth?

Games Workshop uses rapid prototyping with 3d printers to design all its plastic kits. GW's model kits are pretty simplistic - I can put a basic infantry model togeather in about 10 minutes. Ov course it takes 3 hours to paint one, and you need about 100 to play a game ov Warhammer 40k. As such, I play a lot ov Star Wars Miniatures.

Anyways, I could see this useful to get a large amount ov scenery and terrain - design a few modular 'gothic' building elements in blender, email the file to the printers and cast the masters in resin. I bet you could get enough terrain to fill a 8*4 cityfight table, with plenty leftovers to cover the costs ov doing so in ebay sales alone.

  14. Re:So, is it not fair on Laptops With Certain NVidia Chips Failing · · Score: 1

How is this insightful? You seem to be missing the point. envy doesn't even make graphics cards, only the GPU chips. There are no standards for laptop form factors or motherboard layouts. Laptops are always a vendor specific proprietary design. In a laptop form factor all the internal parts including GPU, fan, and bios, will be chosen and assembled by the laptop manufacturer before being shipped to the vender.

So if you haven't groked it yet, let me clue you in on the way it is.

NV makes graphics chips. PNY makes graphics cards using NV chips. Quanta and Compal manufacture notebooks that use NV chips. Dell sells laptops made by Quanta and Compal.

OK, do we have this part down. Go read it again if you don't, because you really need to understand this before you continue, as the next part is the kicker. ready? here goes...

Nvidia provides the reference. Other people implement it.

Now lets take things like the examples given in reply to this post :

"I was shocked to find that the fan didn't even sit completely atop the core, and that there was a LOT of excess thermal paste and stupidly thick thermal pads."
"a 8800GT ... overheated in normal play, while keeping the fan stuck at 30% speed... The original Foxconn thermal paste spilled out all over the area around the GPU."

If you understand the above text, you will now realize that NVIDIA did not make the graphics cards in question. They did not make the fans. They did not decide what fans to use. They did not decide how much thermal paste to apply to the fans. And they did not apply the fans to the chip. They made the chip.

Tell me, how is it 100% eNVy's fault that things eNVy did not make are overheating?

Maybe NVIDIA does get some blame for under-reporting the required cooling, but don't hardware manufactures like Foxconn, PNY, Quanta and Compal deserve some blame for not quality testing the parts? And what about laptop venders liek Dell and HP, don't they do any quality testing on the hardware that they brand with their logos? Do they get any blame?

IMO it is 100% dells fault for pushing shitty consumer grade product that I would never use.

It was quite a trek. I did not want a 40gig as I have a large collection ov ps2 games that are not finished yet.

So, after going to different stores for a few weeks and coming back empty handed i eventully saw someone in best buy holding a box; pointed to a pallet in the corner sorrounded by geeks. I was so excited as I stood in line - in front ov AND behind people buying ps3s! When I went back later for HD cables, the entire pallet was gone!

Since I got the ps3 tho, I have only played msg4 once. my gf has hijacked it. Ironic, because for weeks she complained about me going around looking, saying things like 'i dont know why you want one, there are no games for it anyway'. So now she spends her time playing echochrome, flow and nucleus; making the ps3 her #1 most played game system, as in the 10 years that i have known her, the only video games she has ever played are ZPC on the PC (because she likes brute! and kmfdm) and Full Metal Alchimest 1&2 on the ps2 (because she likes fma).

    That alone is worth 500$.

more after i put it to work upconverting my old 'ps2.5' games like Shining Force Exa that suffer from slowdowns on the ps2.
