now we run our games using X11 without a window manager. it is much more fun to write a session script which starts an "xterm" at a "-geometry" location, then spawns a game by giving "-geometry" explicitly, because there is no window manager.
The Force Unleashed was not delayed due to the marketing and the tie-in products not being ready - the action figures, books comics and such were finished last year. there were some pretty major spoilers in the wotc' star wars miniatures set, released November 16, 2007. nope, tfu was delayed because the devs couldn't get the hodge podge ov liscenced tech to work correctly.
mgs4 has regenerating health. see those gekkos over there? you can only kill them with a direct hit from an rpg. and you don't have enough ammo to kill them all. happy sneaking.
>Sarcraft was an RTS which is consistently touted as being the greatest RTS ever made, when, in fact, it did absolutely nothing special. It had a good story, that was it.
Starcraft did not have a good story - mostly generic sci fi events, and the setting was lifted from warhammer 40k. Most 'craft fans doubt that blizzard ripped off 'hammer, but then I ask why blizzard hired Andy Chambers as their creative director for starcraft 2 right after he left games workshop.
>Except that's definitely AND. I have right now the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, the quicklaunch bar at the top and a "My PC" toolbar on the right.
Except that's definitely not the taskbar at the bottom of the screen AND the taskbar at the top of the screen.
>And since there is no thing such as '2nd world' and we're definitely not 1st world, yes, we are a 3rd world country.:)
But there IS such a thing as '2nd world' countries. 'First world' is 1980's newspeak for western bloc; 'second world' is eastern bloc. Third world countries are countries being fought over in proxy wars by the eastern and western bloc powers.
It basicly comes down to if you are using f16s or migs.
>Perhaps Microsoft has finally decided they need to stop wasting their time in the console market and will start to turn their attention back to making keyboards and mice.
>As the GP pointed out the algorithm for seeing through the portal must be less obvious/interesting
This is easy.
1) portal_1 & portal_2 are textures that are applied to the walls as decals. (just like every other bullet hole in just about every other non-GeoMod style shooting game)
2) create a pair ov cameras, one attached to each portal. aim the camera the direction ov the normal with its up vector aligned with the global up vector.
3) Render target portal_1 with sorurce ov portal_2 and vice versa.
I am using this method for the intersteller transit gates in my Zero Point War game series. I have not figured out how to preserve momentum using ODE yet tho - my simulation breaks.
Live might have more content then the psn, but it is not exactly good. For one thing it is so slow - too much time is spent looking at a stupid spinning circle in live. Second, you have to pay for the ability to use the good parts (like being able to play games online). And the good parts are unreliable, with massive rolling outages.
But that is ok. You got a FREE XBox LIVE Arcade to compensate for the service being so unstable.
And a promise about how microsoft is going to enhance their dreamcast3 with a copy ov sony's home but with nintendo's miis in it. with me-too motion sensitive controls. and an eye toy^H camera.
Diebold DID hire experienced programmers to write their software. We know they were experienced because they were convicted felons who specialized in computer fraud.
I dont think it is too far ov a stretch to blame microsoft for sega's demise.
Given how closely sega and microsoft worked on bringing directx to the DC, and microsoft's history for screwing over its business partners...
Was microsoft just not happy with the $3 USD runtime licensing fees? Why else would they decide they want a whole new box to run directx on?
Sonly does not extract features like backwards compatibility. the only feature that has been removed is BC with ps2 games. (all ps3 can play psx games) This was done for the following reasons:
1) removing emotion chips makes the console less expensive.
2) ps2 BC can be added later via pure software emulation.

you fucking idiot, you can't run wine on a ppc/cell.
and only because the south had *already* freed them.

Look up "Spirit of Motherwill" on youtube.
Microsoft owns fasa interactive, and the rights to mechwarrior video games.
omg wtf?!

the boss battle between laughing octopus and solid snake is the coolist/ most emotionally tramatic boss battle since SHODAN v.s. the hacker.
More like, MS is wagering that the Xbox live experience makes people choose to pay for something they get for free on the ps3.
>Perhaps Microsoft has finally decided they need to stop wasting their time in the console market and will start to turn their attention back to making keyboards and mice.
Fixed that for you.
is the ps2 still outselling the next gen consoles?
really?
a directx console was a bad idea way back when it was called the dreamcast. it is still a bad idea.
opengl is better.

Enemy Territory is so much better then UT3.

Microsoft loved it.
