  1. Re:Well, Heck... No Wonder! on Environmental Report Raises Pressure On Obama To Approve Keystone Pipeline · · Score: 1

Plants can use carbon only up to a point. Most of the time the plants are not CO2 constrained, but sunlight constrained. Meaning that there is not enough light to use that much CO2.

That is also the reason why global warming won't lead to prime farming land in the north - even when it gets warmer there, there won't be enough sunlight for decent plant growth compared to, for example, central Europe.

Adding CO2 to boost plant growth only makes sense in a well-planted and well-lighted fishtank, not in the Earth atmosphere.

A decent aluminium bike frame is way cheaper, than 10 years ago, and at the same time better, because the technology is mature. Same goes for hydraulic disc brakes.

Not really. Complete automation usually happens when people are expensive. Compared to the rest of the train, its operators aren't that expensive. Besides, modern train protection systems like LZB in Germany actually allow for automatic operation. It is seldom used in that capacity because it is not available on all the railroads, just on some lines that allow speeds higher than (in case of Germany) 160 kph. Autopilot is used on these tracks, though.

Yep, OsmAnd+ sucks. Unfortunately it is the only semi-usable bicycle navigation and it is even kinda sorta usable offroads.

Try Mapfactor Navigator Free. It is closed source and with ads, but it does use OSM as their map source. Way better routing than OsmAnd.

That particular conflict was just a turf war between two rival gangs. When USA interfered, they took sides for one of the gangs. That caused problems later when this gang invaded a neighbour country.

So, it could have been even for the better altogether if US had just stood back - the gangs might have blooded themselves out.

There was no other way than riding over the track at an angle. It was a narrow road with cars parked in two rows - fucking bastards - and the light rail track in the centre. And no, it was the back wheel. Unfortunately the tire had the same width as this cavity in the rail. The back wheel slipped into it, stuck, and since the bike decelerated immediately (I had only half a second of forewarning when I felt the rear wheel skidding which I used to unclip the pedals) I have been thrown off the bike by inertia.

Hurt myself pretty hard with bruises on bruises all over. Limped for about two months afterwards.
