You've got that backwards. The reactor spiked after the shutdown, the SCRAM procedure was the actual cause for the explosion: after the SCRAM the control rods slowly went down. The control rods were made of boron carbide (which is a neutron absorber) with graphite tips (graphite is a moderator). The tips displaced the coolant water which is not only a moderator but also a neutron absorber. That has caused a fast spike, that boiled more water away, and after two seconds (the control rods were very slow) it caused the first explosion - a steam explosion - which damaged the control rod guidance tubes, making the control rods stuck in their position with just the tips entered, so the reaction could not be shut down. After that the reaction run away and caused a second (nuclear) explosion a few seconds later.
So basically your "wish" came true, but a runaway reaction cannot be sustained. The molten core went somewhat underground and then congealed (search for chernobyl elephant foot). It was actually lucky that it couldn't breech the concrete floor, because the ground water would be contaminated and the contamination would spread with the ground water flow.
The reactor contents in Chernobyl haven't buried themselves very deep. Besides, it has got a potential to poison the ground water, so it is a bad idea.
Dude, what have you been smoking? There were unions in the USSR, all the time between 1917 and 1990 and they were considered by Lenin as one of the most important parts of a communist society. Pretty much every single Soviet employee was a union member.
Not really. It is Swedish or Danish. International transliteration from Cyrillic uses the Czech character "c with hacek" for the ch sound according to the ISO 9 standard.
In what universe is there nothing wrong with a reactor which explodes on emergency shutdown procedure (SCRAM)?
Here are a few facts for you: Fact 1: RBMK back then was not safe even for Soviet standards.
Fact 2: The problem with the control rod design was known, but ignored - the Leningrad nuclear power plant had a partial meltdown for a similar reason a decade before.
Well, to be honest, FDP is pretty much superfluous - it is a single-issue party, and this single issue is corporate welfare. No merits whatsoever. It is called "Moevenpick-Partei" for a reason.
Sorry, but you are quite wrong. The first power plant with the same reactor type (RBMK-1000) went online in 1973, the second generation of this reactor type (the same that was used in Chernobyl reactor block #4) first went online in 1978 or 1979. Chernobyl reactor block #4 went online in 1984 so at the moment of the desaster it was basically a shiny new power plant with a recently designed reactor. In fact, reactors of that design supply half of the nuclear power in Russia and one reactor of the type is still under construction near Kursk.
To make things short and simple, socialism is when the workers own the means of production.
Encouraging able-bodied people to be reliant on anything other than themselves on the other hand, has got absolutely nothing to do with socialism and everything with specialisation, which is a very important factor for technical progress - there is just no progress if everyone is busy at subsistent agriculture.
I changed the wallpaper picture of a colleague to hello.jpg once and hid it under a maximised application. Then the colleague and his boss walk in, the colleague minimises the application, hilarity ensues. Needless to say that the colleague has always locked his workstation after that.
Substitute "Peterbuilt" for "MAN" or "Scania" if you are a fellow European.
That is because people are not allowed to live in and around Pripyat'. And won't be for centuries to come.
Still can't spot the difference?
CANDU is a heavy water reactor, not a light water reactor.
Please read about this guy and then tell me again about everybody who is against nuclear power being luddites.

HTC were okay with people hacking their devices for years, but it seems that they have changed their stance.

The phone is okay, but the buttons are somewhat difficult to press and the CPU is very slow.
About 6 seconds

Some of them were real decades ago.
You are not supposed to use the touchscreen while driving.

It is neither a common alternative nor a different system. "Chornobyl" is the transliteration from Ukrainian, "Chernobyl" from Russian, that's all.

That is not correct, RBMK type reactors were built without any containment.
If you call a tail a leg, how many legs has a dog?

Do you feel enlightenend now?
This one might be just perfect for Sheldon Cooper, don't you think?
"I've been mad for fucking years, absolutely years"

Windows Mobile had copy&paste from day 1. It is Windows Phone that is castrated.
Come on. You can reduce most books to second-rate stories if you take away their core idea.
Yeskov's novel is actually fun, although the Umbar part is a bit too long IMHO.
