Have you seen Japan's sales numbers for the last few years? The fact is, gaming was declining. The DS, DS:Lite and Wii are directly responsible for the revival of that market. It's not that they saw the threat of competition, they saw the threat of stagnation.
I'm afraid you're quite wrong here. My wife is the very definition of a nongamer. I picked up a DS:lite in September as a birthday present to myself. I made the mistake of showing her Brain age and my DS was gone. To date, she has purchase at least 2 games per month. I believe her total is collection somewhere around 12-14 games. Not just quirky games like brain age. She has also started to enjoy games like Contact. The fact is, 'hard core' gamers are the purchasing minority.
"I am also excited about Home especially now that I own a PS3."
Why? It's essentially a virtual doll house. I already spend way too much time working on remodeling projects for my REAL house. I suppose this type of thing plays well with the Sims crowd, but really don't understand the draw.
I agree, this should not have been marked flamebait. On an offtopic note, I just called Nintendo to send my Wii in for repair. I'm getting white and black pixels firing randomly. They're picking up shipping both ways and will ship me a new unit if they can't figure out what is wrong. That is customer service.
Hence my preemptive apology at the end of my post. I never claim that I'm a perfect driver, but I do try to follow the general rules of etiquette. This is a sore spot for me because I've seen way too many accidents and close calls because people are displaying the 'me first' attitude. Just last summer; I saw a SUV go end over end. A car tried to zip in between the SUV and a semi and the car clipped the front end of the SUV. Compound that with highway speeds and things got very ugly.
Again, I apologize if I was unduly critical as I see this as an increasingly distressing issue.
"denying right of way (of stationary cars). Nothing that is seriously harmful," I like to call this the 'me first' defense. People assume they are not doing anything outright dangerous; they're just 'getting ahead'. Kind of like the person that blows the red light because they can or people that refuse to let people merge correctly. It might be a minor infraction from their point of view, but it's a major pain in the ass for everyone else. I apologize if you are not be one of these people, but they irk me a bit.
There are more than a few parents that sacrifice a great deal to send their children to private schools. I've personally seen the train wreck that is public school bureaucracy and the amount of waste is terrifying.
I must be the only PC gamer that actually enjoyed 3. I agree it suffered from consolitis, but it really wasn't a bad game. If you could accept the MANY loading points, there really wasn't too many faults with the game. Unlike a lot of thief fans, I actually appreciate the 'shine' effect. A real thief would be able to tell a gold mug from a tin mug, but I never could. The cradle still scares the crap out of me...
Very good point. I absolutely refuse to purchase a game without trying it out, be it a demo or a full version 'demo'. Sometimes it backfires for the company though. I pulled down Doom3 and deleted it within the first 20 minutes.
Yours is a far more moderate response to the news than mine and probably more accurate. I suppose I'm still a little bitter about the moderately high cost and the extremely long wait.
I love the Half Life series, but I really hope they didn't delay Ep2 just so they could put DX10 in there. What happened to the short development and low cost of episodic gaming? This is just another slap in the face for fans of the series.
I agree that 2012 might be a little long, but anything shorter than 5-6 years is going to leave a bad taste in the mouthes of your fan base. Look at how the MS was criticized for abandoning the Xbox after only four years. People need to feel that they've gotten their moneys worth out of a console if you want them to purchase the next iteration.
I don't own a 360, but they actually seem to be learning from their past mistakes. For now, I'll stick with my PC, Wii and DS:Lite, but kudos to Microsoft. It's nice to see a company plan a steady flow of games. I just wish that Nintendo would get its butt in gear and release some decent single player Wii games.
I understand your argument, but I have a problem with the 'taking inflation into account' viewpoint. The fact is, even with inflation, most reasonable people will see $600 as a really big chunk of cash to drop on what is essentially a toy. I personally have a Pioneer 930 Elite and $2000 surround sound system. I say that because I want you to understand that I value HD media. I also have NOT purchased a HD-DVD or Blu-ray player since I'm tired of re-buying physical media. I simply do not see $600 of value in the PS3.
I doubt you'll have a great strategy need on the Wii. I'm expecting more party games and competitive style games. Either way, I'm looking forward to not hearing the ignorant masses.
I got mine at launch. We had people over shortly there after and my brother-in-law has been trying to find one since then. He finally managed to get one at K-mart this past weekend by showing 15 minutes before it opened. They're out there, but you have to work for it.
I beat Zelda awhile back and shelved it. Great game. I'll play through it again in a year or two. I play Wii Sports with my wife several times a week.
It's pointless to argue with an ignorant fanboy. Most of them eventually resort to the cliche arguments and juvenile name calling.

"they won't buy 30 games like the hardcore ones."

Not in IL. Perhaps you missed the news a few years back when we had a pile of people indited for selling commercial licenses?
I agree with the statement about different types of pollution. The GP has obviously never been to a location like Mexico City.

I was discussing this last night. I have no idea how many VC titles have been sold so far, but they must be swimming in the profits.
I spent way too much time on UU1 in my younger days. I still have a notebook full of runes and lizard language somewhere.

I'm still holding out for Bethesda to come through. Call me moon eyed, but Fallout (1&2) will always get me wishing for more.

It means the page was hit by so many 'slashdotters' that it went down.

I completely agree. My oldest brother came back on spring break and had a copy of Wolf3D on his 386. I was a PC gamer after that.
