    1. They lowered the most highway speeds to 55MPH. They might not make new speeding laws, but they certainly alter speed zones to generate revenue.

    2. I believe there was a story a while back about police borrowing impounded vehicles. Seems like an incentive.

    3. I've never had a rebate from the government when they collect more than they were expecting. You are correct though, we should separate bad individual behavior from policy. It's unfortunate that those that are behaving in unethical and immoral ways are writing the policy.

    I doubt the police are that naive. The truth is, the war on drugs employs quite a few people. As for politicians, saving your children from scary drugs makes a great talking point.

    I never said that I was currently bored, but I expect that I would be eventually. There is only so much media (books, movies, live entertainment) to consume and traveling will eventually become repetitive.

    You really believe that a longer perspective would make people CARE about the environment and the rest of humanity? Perhaps I've grown too pessimistic, but I have little hope for the general population.

    You really want to go to work every day for the next N years? Even if I had a great job, I still wouldn't want go to work every day. Dealing office politics, meetings, clients, etc is not my idea of a wonderful eternity.

    As for this great vision of eternal life, it all lies on the assumption that your mind will stay sharp and intact. Can you imagine an eternal life locked in the body of an Alzheimers patient?

    I don't mind paying for public education even though I plan on sending my future children to private schools. What object to is the horrible standards that have been set. How do they justify a student costing $25,000 per year when a better, private school normally costs $3,000-5,000? Teacher's unions and corrupt administration have destroyed the American public school system at the tax payers expense.

    I have a netflix subscription that I use frequently. Usually 2-3 movies per week. However, there are times when I end up with two movies that my wife added to the list that I have NO interest in watching. She make take two or three weeks to turn them around. Is it wrong that I download a couple of DVDs in the mean time? I would have gotten them from Netflix anyways, so I don't see any problem with it.

    There's a difference between effort and aptitude. Not everyone can be a Michael Jordon or Albert Einstein, but that doesn't mean you should stop trying to compete.

    Almost every problem with the public school system is a direct result of poor administration. I have already decided to do what ever it takes to put my kids into private schools.
