Obviously you haven't been reading up on Windows PE. MS Windows Psychic Edition relies on premonitions to do what you want it to, making the UI obsolete. For example, Bill Gates muttered "There is no more spam." and BAM, I bet you haven't received any spam since then, right? The only reason why it hasn't gained widespread use is due to the fact that during beta testing Windows PE sensed that the beta tester expected it to crash, so it automatically erase itself from the users harddrive. Service Pack 1A was released to allow the system when to ignore the user. To ensure the system will ignore your expectation of a crash, simply think "Oh god, don't crash! This file is important!" and your harddrive and any open documents will be safe.
A friend of mine was fired from a job because he posted negative commments in a public forum about the employer. He didn't identify himself by name, or that he was employed by the company at that time. He just said something along the lines complaining the way management hanadled customer issues and security (i.e., ignoring them) and the fact that the entire support staff was outsourced. Apparently they tracked him down and confirmed he was an employee and fired him. Which in the long run was probably best for him anyway, because he doesn't call me all the time stressing out from work.
At my current job, there are several outsourcing companies that work onsite for the customer I'm assigned to. I was hanging out late after work one day and one of the guys I'm friends with was taking an "ethics in business" test. The company he worked for had recently been aquired by one of the three letter telco's so all the aquired employees were having the drink their corporate koolaid. So I'm shoulder surfing looking at the test he's taking. The material was such a corporate CYA it wasn't even funny. It could be easily boiled down to "don't commit anything to paper so that its not a lie later." It went into such detail as to recommend "sensitive issues" not be submitted by internal email or memo's since those details could be obtained during a deposition. Instead, invite relevant parties to a meeting and discuss it verbally so there is no record. Yeah, that's real ethics in business for ya.
Give an infinite number of poor kids an infinite number of cheap laptops and given an infinite number of time typing randomly they will recreate the works of Shakespeare?
Just because someone is smart and comes from a top engineering school doesn't mean everything they say is golden. This guy is a serious liberal crackpot.
The reason people were "left stranded, unprepared, and unaided when a real disaster struck" when Katrina hit was because they were dependant on the government, not technology.
What? You mean the Trinity character from the Matrix hasn't inspired young hot women wearing pleather bodysuits to hack into the IRS and become Computer Science majors?
I consider POTS or PBX based phone service that runs over IP versus standard copper to your local Bell as "real" VoIP. Like Vonage, etc. Internet "phone calls" from computer to computer have been implemented by at least a dozen companies already. But they aren't integrated into the Bell system to call non-VoIP users.
As everybody above my comment has already stated.. this is just another Video/Audio chat client that joins the ranks of Yahoo, MSN, iChatAV, etc etc. They claim to be "free" VoIP but its not "real" VoIP. Its only connecting computer to computer for others who use the same damn service.
Given how asians tend to be smaller in the first place, I don't see how this is all that exciting news. On top of that, nutrition and disease plays a huge part in height, so its entirely possible that these were not all that healthy of a group.
Right now I live in NH and commute down to Boston. I'd have to drive for 20 minutes to get to the nearest commuter rail station, so I'd still need a car to get to work. I'm thinking about doing it anyway, since gas prices and lousy commute times are really getting to me.
I don't plan on trading in my dual G4 anytime soon anyway. I would make sure the new system I do upgrade to has more power obviously, but its the OS Apps, and general hardware I switched for, not the CPU.
Researchers have named the center of the brain responsible for sarcasm detection the "Slashdot region". Often confused with the "Troll region" which is reponsible for detecting morons.
Back in the day when phishing on AOL was completely "normal", keystroke loggers were the #1 way to go. Everybody and their brother was using it. That was 10 years ago... why do people think this is new?
First off, the libertarian in me says they are right.. local municipalities shouldn't be spending money on public wifi access. If community groups want to do it without spending my tax dollars, I say go for it.
That being said, what the telcoms need to do is provide a better service. Make it value-add. Oh, and here's a kicker, make it affordable yet reliable. Some telcoms have gotten that message already, and offer reduced speed (but fast enough to count) access that matches dialup.
And oh yeah, they should fight tooth and nail to stop paying the school access tax (whatever the hell its called) for municipalities that are offering access to their citizens.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that having organizers was bad. My issue was when they went to having organizers, it started requiring the organizer make ALL the decisions. Before, it would suggest a meetimg place and time. So at least you had a starting point that interested parties could show up and get enough momentum that a leader would volunteer.
I like the idea of organizer, but they shouldn't be tasked with defining the date/time/place. Especially for small meetup groups desperate for an organizer, they just never meet and an organizer never comes up, so the meetup events never work.
In my opinion, they started going downhill when they made these changes.

I could have sworn I removed IE from my Mac on December 31st two years ago.

Sure, sounds good on paper... but good intentions lead to bad consequences.

They call them buses 'round these parts.
As anybody who's ever been to Wal Mart knows, microscopic diamond rings are in high demand.
Maybe not to the level they are now, but the Japanese were doing this 10+ years ago.

You forgot about the references to Bush in the Darth Vader dialog.

Well of course not, but look at how many millions of computers were on AOL back then. Its still the same thing, just new delivery method.
Back in the day when phishing on AOL was completely "normal", keystroke loggers were the #1 way to go. Everybody and their brother was using it. That was 10 years ago... why do people think this is new?
Cmdrtaco needs a little ego boosting laughing at the morons.

That's why I always used the debit card function... :)
