Allright, everyone get all hyped up that the PS3 has a Blue-Ray drive. Go ahead and make your decision about what format you want to win the format war, before the war begins. Last time I checked, I didn't see any HD-DVD or Blue-Ray discs for sale at my local Best Buy. Nor did I see any Blue-Ray or HD-DVD players. If you are buying the latest GAME CONSOLE for anything other than GAMES, you are not buying a GAME CONSOLE, you are looking for a MULTIMEDIA CONSOLE. From what I see, XBOX 360 will play all of my current movies, meaning I don't have to rebuy a single one. Factor that cost into the Blue-Ray on the PS3 and the cost just skyrocketed. I'm no Microsoft fan by any means, nor am I a Sony fan, but a little common sense in price battles never hurts. Besides, they are both too expensive for a console system anyway. Current generation consoles shouldn't go for more than $300 and should focus on GAMES. If I want all that other crap, I can buy additional devices at bargain prices when I need them. It's kind of like packaging milk with cookies at the grocery store, and not offering just cookies. Not everyone likes milk with their cookies.
I think that is the biggest problems with cell phones. People do talk on the cell phone and drink coffee and smoke their cigarettes at the same time. I've seen many accidents in parking lots with people talking on their cell phones while smoking a cigarette trying to park their car. The problem with a cell phone in comparison to food, drink, passengers, other distractions is that you can be on it for an entire trip in a car. It would be like holding a cup of coffee to your mouth for an entire trip, not putting it down once. That is a big distraction. There is also a much higher rate of turn signal negligence while on the phone. I have been guilty of that myself, although I try to stay off the phone as much as possible while on the road. Hands free seems like a good option, as you should have both hands available a majority of the time to react to situations. Some people would rather get in an accident instead of dropping their precious cell phone. Hands free sets mean one less decision you have to make when a split second action is required.
It shouldn't have to be legislation, it should be common sense.
Either way, you are at a much higher risk of dying in a car wreck while talking, dialing, or answering that cell phone than from cancer caused by the cell phone.
The moral of this story: Maybe you should talk less on the phone in the first place. Being detached momentarily from what is going on won't cause you to float into space.
Now if only the Media Industry would take a hint from this with their downloadable movies. If you sell Product A at the same price point as Product B, and Product B is more versatile in where it can be played, then Product A will fail.
Solutions: 1. Make Product A less expensive 2. Make Product A more versatile 3. Make Product B less versatile 4. Make Product B more expensive 5. Don't make Product A
Movie studios need to take note, just because you spend $10 million on a movie, doesn't mean you will make your money back, let alone turn a profit.
The problem with that is having to hold it down for a few seconds while driving. Taking eyes off the road is bad enough, having to take them off the road for a few seconds is a big deal. I know you can adjust the volume to turn it on, or push the middle button (although that does something with the On-the-go playlist). A simple light function seems more important than that on-the-go playlist.
I use my iPod mostly for sitting in traffic, and right now I have a tape adapter to connect it with my stereo. With the volume too loud, it gives a lot of distortion through the stereo, with it about 85% it sounds perfect. The problem is 85% is too loud for headphones, so when I use it outside of the car I have to change the volume. With the volume indicator not having a numeric value, it is nearly impossible to find that perfect tape adapter volume. Now I can set that as my limit and my problem is solved.
I know this wasn't their intention with this update, but it should work great in solving my problem for my situation.
Now if they would just have an update where you could turn the backlight on by pressing a button without it changing the menu selection/volume/song...
If you don't support DRM or the direction these media corporations are taking, don't purchase their products. At the same time, don't download their stuff illegally, as you are just giving them a reason to cop out of bad marketing and poor production for losses or limited gains. I can't wait to see these media giants fall, and for the little people to come back out and start making small production movies. There is no reason (not speaking economically) that one person should make $40 million per movie role. Most common people won't hit $2 million overall earnings in our life times.
Definitely Diablo II. My wife and I have been playing that game for a few years together now. It is simple point and click, but can be as complex as you want trying to build your character up. A simple suggestion is that if she is having trouble with a low level character, pick up a character editor and give her some more health. I also recommend Lego Star Wars, it is a fun game with a few levels that are difficult where you can step in and save the day. The "come back where you die" feature is nice too. Lastly is Gauntlet Legends. Another simple run around and kill em type game where you can build your character up.
I don't think it is age that makes you think that way. I think people are becoming more cynical with the amount of information available to them nowadays. For instance, when you used to buy a new car, you would be excited, and so would everyone else. Now when you get a new car, you love it, until you start reading forums about how 3% of the owners had this and that break, or a friend mentions something about it. Not having that great feeling along with too much information just makes us cynical about everything in life.
Dell is referring to the Linux development community here, not the Dell PC buyers community. Dell would not consider Windows developers to be a CLIENT as you are referring to Linux developers. Dell would consider Windows development as a VENDOR, providing them with a product that fits with the product Dell is trying to sell.
Linux will never become a widely used OS among Joe Sixpacks unless the developers realize that they are the VENDORS and not the CLIENTS.
enough waste heat is generated to heat a medium sized home
Maybe it's about time someone came up with a method to use this heat for additional productivity. Maybe the element used in heating water for an expresso machine!
Hey, why don't they ban buying gas for your gas grills? Kids inhale this stuff all the time to get high, and die quite often from it. What about common household cleaners used to make exstacy? This is another example of government failing to do its job on one end (police) and trying to make up for it on the wrong end (laws).
I am really annoyed right now with the cold medicine commercials that claim to be "cleaning up the neighborhood" by using other ingredients in their medication that can't be used by meth labs... yet. We'll see how long it takes the labs to substitute a different ingredient, or figure out how to produce it from other raw materials.
what killed the Toys R Us business model - Walmart.
It is interesting to see a process go round full cycle. Back in the day, Toys R Us killed the local toy stores business model. Goes to show that a business model has to evolve with the times in order for a company to stay profitable.
It will be interesting to see what business model takes over the Walmart's success.
I do agree with your ideal that the creativity has gone down in light of violence and gore. This is very prominent in movies today also. Some violent video games today that get blamed for quite a bit of stuff do add a challenge factor into the equasion though. Such as Grand Theft Auto (all of them). It has about the largest roam around do what you want without many limits (in comparison to other games) that makes playing it never dull. I admit, sometimes the humor is flat or down right gross, but for adults that can make judgements this is ok, and that is why it gets a mature rating.
What it boils down to is that it really is up to the parents to make a judgement for their kids. Laws and ratings can only do so much. Keeping on top of those ratings can be very effective. If you find games rated a certain level that you think should not be at that level, contact the game maker, or the ratings people. You may not be able to get anything changed, but nothing will change unless you take action on it.
Just stay away from trying to pull our mature rated games, and get involved as parents to keep your kids away from them too.
I assume extreme sarcasm in the parent post; However, there are games available like this. It is up to the parents of those kids to do some research so they can find them, and do some parenting while they are at it.
Don't forget to paint your walls off-white, and that chair, vibrant color can induce violence as well.

Cause you know too much McSony can cause high blood pressure and heart disease, not to mention that sluggish feeling.

Yeah, I imagine such an event could cause rings around uranus.
Possibly to warm the atmosphere on Mars, a small shipment of XBox 360's will do?

It truly is amazing how much that chart climbs in the years Bush Jr. has held office.
Wait a minute. Bush declared the war over. It can't be the least successful if it doesn't exist!
Thinking about the Bush administration just makes me mad.
Maybe it's about time someone came up with a method to use this heat for additional productivity. Maybe the element used in heating water for an expresso machine!
I don't think AOL is really around any more, except for the hobby of AOL disk collecting.
