Eh, the only naming convention Steve Jobs could recommend to Hormel to rename SPAM would be to call is iSPAM:)
Then hordes of new naming conventions would follow. The method of canning spam would be renamed SPAMCanning, and the method of shipping the SPAM would be called SPAMCasting.
I use dual monitors at work. One 17" as a side monitor for e-mail and Slashdot. My main monitor is only 15" which I use to code. I find that I can read through all of the code on the screen faster as my brain is looking over less space. The 15" monitor also keeps my eyes focused in a small area, reducing the tendency to wander off from working. A 30" monitor would be incredibly too large, unless doing hi-def graphics.
If you aren't happy with MySpace and the rules they play by, don't use them. Don't let your children use them. It should not be up to the government what information these people collect in order for you to use their site. The government doesn't make Disney World take your finger print before you enter the park, Disney World does that on their own. Same with the grocery store, or library, or local club. Make the government implement laws to "save the children" from an online service and physical commercial gathering places will follow.
If you really don't like how MySpace works, then start a company to rival them, with background checks and what not. Then see how little difference that makes when someone gets raped after meeting someone else on your site and you get sued.
Take care of your own damn children, and leave the government out of my life as much as possible.

Microsoft Sued Over WGA
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
Nice post. The problem ensues because the validation is based of off keys. If you have a legit key installed and someone else steals the key, your legit copy of the software can be marked as illegit. So, the problem isn't with the concept, but with the process of execution. This would be the case with any software that relied on a key/phone home method of authentication.
Maybe Microsoft should provide a number to call in the case that your copy of Windows is legit and has been labelled as illegit.
This just screams lawsuit. If you have a legit copy that gets disabled and causes you any harm or loss in productivity, sue Microsoft (keyword is "legit"). This is a direct aim they are taking, not on the same level as a system crash. They truly would be causing your pc to fail, not a bum hard drive or bad drivers.
I personally have legit Windows Installations, but do not have WGA installed since I would rather use my PCs resources my way. I will be royally pissed if my machines stop working because I did not install a patch.
Microsoft is going to have a very bumpy road ahead if they continue in this manner.
Looks like it will be time to sue the RIAA for libel when they start doing this. They are not just trying to scare the general public (there should be something illegal about the way they are doing this), but they are going to ruin individual's names in the process. Time to copyright my name so that when they try to use me in the news I can collect from them and counter sue every time they put it in print.
"MySpace is more concerned about making money than protecting children online," said Adam Loewy
Think of the Children!
Seriously. I can't see where this case would hold water, unless MySpace.com says somewhere that all information displayed is verified and true. While they are at it, why don't they sue the car manufacturer and dealer for "they knew sexual predators were" using their vehicles.
It's time for the parents to take some responsibility here, and if they already did, then maybe it is just how their kid acts. The same would more than likely have happened at a Friday night football game if MySpace wasn't available.
The problem with the idea of giving a ticket when the light turns red is that the timing on yellow lights is not consistent between lights. There is already a delay between when your light turns red and the opposite directions turn green, so why not give a second or two of grace after the light turns red before issuing a ticket? Running a yellow light is a split second decision, if the light has already turned red though, you know you are wrong.
I have actually heard of some instances where the local governments have reduced the time the light stays yellow in order to increase revenue. I believe I read that in an issue of the Atlanta Journal & Constitution. (www.ajc.com)
I don't agree with running red lights, but I do know that the reasons behind running them are not constant nor absolute. Using a machine to govern an intersection makes it absolute. Tell me you are going to slam on your brakes and stop at a red light when there is a semi sitting behind you that looks like it isn't going to stop. Should you get a ticket for running it in that situation? No.
If I had the time I could name 20 easily that are buggy, bloated, complicated, and crash constantly just like Lotus Notes does. I developed with Notes for 1 1/2 years and spent quite a few mouse clicks on KillNotes.exe in the quicklaunch bar.:)
Why not just shorten the time frame in which a patent is valid. In the everchanging/moving technological era, something around 2 to 3 years should be fair. This would push incentive for those patenting ideas to actually use them and not sit around and wait for the ideas to become standard and then pounce. If you can't implement your patent in a few years and get in the market, you lose your edge. I believe that could actually create more competition in the market.
Blizzard just needs to release a Diablo III or quite a few expansion packs for Diablo II. Diablo II is truly fun and playable by almost anyone. My wife even loves Diablo II.
Oh boy! Vista Beta 2. Onto another OS system. I didn't even realize that XP had come out of beta yet, with all the updates/patches and what not each week!
I know that myself and a lot of other people would be willing to pay $1 to download music that isn't crippled by DRM. When are the industries going to realize that actually means less in costs for them? Fewer lawsuits, less technology going into the creation of a digital song, and more people downloading and paying for music is going to mean more profit for everyone... well, everyone but the lawyers!
Damn DRM and damn the lawyers!
While Nintendo is at plowing through the competition with fair prices and focusing on the "fun" factor instead of the "wow" factor, they should give more incentive to purchase the Wii. How about 10 free classic game downloads with the purchase, or something along those lines? Maybe the gaming companies will start to realize with the mass amount of sales that occur from the classic games with Wii that people really are more interested in the "fun" factor. I miss the days of being able to pick up a game and play for 20 minutes having accomplished something. Most of the games today take so long just to get started, that isn't possible anymore.
Dear Customer,
We at Micro$oft have decided that you have been driving in an illegal manner in your car. Therefore we have decided to disable your vehicle until you stop driving in illegal manners. No, we do not care that you are currently traveling 70 MPH on the interstate; you are going to be shut down. We are not responsible for any side affects caused by this disablement, or in the event that this is a false positive on your illegal driving manners.
Thank you customer, and remember you can avoid this in the future by purchasing our fully disabled Vista vehicle for a low one time price** of $X.
Micro$oft
**One time price is subject to the Micro$oft licensing policy and the vehicle may be disabled at anytime if the EULA changes with or without user notice.
If the rating system isn't good enough for you, try reading some reviews on it before buying it. If something like that concerns you, ask a knowledgable sales associate about the actual gameplay.
Worst case scenario is rent the game before you buy it and try it out before your kids get a hold of it. The ratings are designed to give a general idea of what is in the game.
Laws don't need to be in place for good old common sense and simple research.
Life is about making decisions based on your knowledge. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong, that is part of life. If you are looking for people to make the decisions for you that is laziness.
Why is the federal government involved in anything dealing with what I do with 1's and 0's other than providing a means to get them from one place to another?
Government works best when it is only there to provide a shell in an economy (infrastructure) and a net when the economy falls.
Prosecution of persons stealing music or anything digital should be handled at a local level where the person/company being stolen from goes after the individual. The current bloated government has far too many laws/regulations in place that assume everyone is guilty. If someone is scared of their property being stolen they should put in their own security system, not rely on the government to handle the loss for them.
"Let's hope Sun gets smart and gets rid of the excess layers of middle management and their entire marketing staff, along with a few maintenance guys."
Corporate layoffs never get rid of management positions. If anything, they are designed to get rid of the grunts doing most of the work and make the middle management do more of the work, all while giving the higher execs huge golden parachutes for leaving the company.
Dell's earnings results, which were in line with the disappointing warning the company provided last week. Revenue was $14.2 billion, up 6 percent from last year, but net income slid 18 percent to $762 million
It is amazing that the public sees a company that has an income and revenue this high as disappointing. I'm sure there is no comparison between these numbers and what Dell was pulling in 5 years ago.
But of course, parents would rather have our legislature raise their children than take a little responsibility themselves
You, my friend, are absolutely right. American's have truly dropped the ball by not wanting/caring enough to raise the children that they created. Everyone just wants to hand responsibility for everything off to the government, and then blame the government again if something related to that happens again. It's time individuals took responsibility for their actions and stopped crying wolf to the masses if they can't wrap their brain around the situation.
Isn't that what Bush was going after in fighting the "Axis of Evil"?

I could see a digital revoluation with hackers uniting to take down all government online services and all online services that relate to DRM.
Something like this would open the eyes of the general public when all of their DRMed media stops working one day for no reason.
Think of the Children!
