  1. I'm not surprised... on Mitsubishi Motors Pulls a Volkswagen; Shares Drop (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

    I'm not surprised.
Mitsubishi has been phoning it in since the '90s where their Automotive division is concerned.

They used to make very nice vehicles - and Chrysler used to import them branded as Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth models (Galant -> Dodge Challenger/Plymouth Sapporo - a very nice car for the time, then the Dodge Colt, Dodge's compact pickup trucks, etc.) and then the DiamondStar partnership was struck. Then they came out with the Starion which was a nice 2+2 "sports" car (a ponycar really) and marketed by Chrysler as the Dodge and Plymouth Conquest, Then came the 3000GT/Stealth and the Eclipse. Then Mitsubishi quit caring about their auto segment - quality dropped, they killed the sportscars, and they started parading the non-turbo FWD Eclipse as a serious sportscar (despite inferior performance and crappy handling), and they have been getting worse ever since, and dealerships have been abandoning the brand for makes that actually provide dealer support.

That they're not putting money into actual performance efficiency and emission controls and are instead cheating the system through ECU trickery and/or delivering "ringers" for certification testing doesn't surprise me at all.

If I could trade Mitsubishi's existence for any number of extinct marques (Saab, Studebaker/Avanti, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Saturn, AMC, De Tomaso Modena, Fisker, or heck, even Plymouth (with a product line distinct from Dodge's, like they used to have up through the mid-'70s - the Roadrunner/Satellite was sweet for a musclecar) I would trade for any one of the others to make a return, because Mitsubishi is an automaker that truly deserves to go under.

  4. Even better would be for them to ignore the gag orders and issue press releases announcing the actions, to keep the government in check. They've never imprisoned a corporate entity for ignoring consumer protection laws, for fraud, engaging in usury, or denying warranty service on items, so why should pointing out when politicians do evil land them in prison? It's not like politicians are hypocrites, right? oh wait.. nvm.

  5. > Americans can sue, but their cases are likely to be thrown out as they cannot show standing, or the government opts to exercise sovereign immunity. The reason we citizens lack standing is because the court orders are hidden, so we can't prove our rights were violated.

This is what makes Manning and Snowden heroes. The US government regularly shits on the constitution when it serves politicians' interests and they pretend that our system of checks and balances do not apply to them. I only wish they had dumped ALL data they had access to onto the Internet for public consumption.

When you consider that probably 75% of drivers aim their side mirrors behind the car rather than the blind spots, eliminating them in favor of side view cameras is ideal. When you go out driving track how many drivers' faces you see in the side mirrors when you are behind them; you should never see the driver's face when you are in the same lane behind them, but you should when you get close in the lanes to either side. If you can see the driver's face when you are directly behind them, they're clueless fucks who have no business operating a 1.5-ton motorized weapon.

  8. Re:Get rid of the side mirrors on Tesla Updates Model S With New Front-End, Air Filtration System, Faster Charging (theverge.com) · · Score: 1

Government regs don't allow for it, even though cameras are superior. Why? Mirrors can't break like cameras do(?!?!), is the thinking behind it. There is some validity to it - you can always stick a crap mirror on the mount in a pinch if a mirror has broken. You lose that capability with a camera. I would like to see both - but smaller more aerodynamic, convex mirrors as a backup to full coverage and elimination of blind spots* through having the fixed-placement cameras cover the areas that actually need coverage.

There are down sides to cameras for rear view; you can easily have mirrors cut and even custom bent/curved mirrors made for any application, regardless of how long a car has been out of warranty. You can't always get replacement electronics or body/trim parts for cars even when they are under warranty, or even when a company has pledged to support a premium trim level of a halo car for 20+ years after production ends but kills the support due to internal corporate politics.

*blind spots: it seems >75% of drivers aim both side mirrors BEHIND the car. If you aim them properly I should never see your face in the side mirrors when I am behind you, because the mirrors are supposed to be aimed at the blind spots on either side of the car. Switching to cameras and LCD screens would eliminate this idiotic habit people have of ignoring their blind spots.

On that note, I would love to see all of NC's legislators and lobbyists (and all family members, ESPECIALLY spouses) who pushed for this bullshit law to undergo the following tests:

      - Karyotype (especially screen for XXY, XX/XY, XXXY)
      - Hormonal profiles (if hormones are required to normalize levels indicate as such), test for CAH, SW/CAH, PAIS, etc.
      - MRI to screen for:
            - presence of != 2 gonads
            - presence of under-developed uterus
            - didelphic uterus
            - didelphic vagina
        - if male, measurement of erect penis - if ~.5cm is externally exposed, they fall within intersex spectum
      - evidence of any scar tissue indicating possibility of having had "normalizing" surgery as an infant
      - review of medical records (especially between birth and age 3) looking for anything regarding hypospadias, undescended testicles, and also for anything described as "herniae" or "benign tumors" which lack the typical detailed descriptions which normally accompany such diagnoses.
      - gynecomastia? Welcome to the club. Yeah this one is a stretch, but it would certainly make my point about idiotic superficial judgements

Any failure of the above, they get to join the rest of us intersex freaks and apparently not be allowed to use any public restroom at all in North Carolina, because we technically are neither male nor female. Given statistics there is bound to be at least two or three people among them who will learn they are the very same freaks they are oppressing (because IS folk get lumped into the same bucket as TS/TG/TV people). Even better would be to publicly announce the result of the screening failures accompanied with the daeshbag's vote for this oppressive legislation. If it turns out to be a male legislator's wife, have him publicly denigrated as a "fag" - or if it turns out he has any female anomalies, denigrate him as a "dyke." :-)

The problem with democracy is tyranny of the majority - because IS folk are a maginalized group within a marginalized group within a marginalized group of people, no one cares... until it affects them.
