'Ouranos' - Our Anus???? Oh please no more!!!! This poor planet is getting a shiity name for itself isn't it. Why not change it altogether and call it something else.... like Septanus (7th Latin root) or Hepanus (7th Greek Root)?
Funny that if you pronounce Uranus (Your Anus)- the proper English, is so droll nowadays, but if you pronounce it the American way, then it sounds like Urin(ous) which is just piss funny!
"It's been called DirectX 10, Windows Graphics Foundation 2.0, and most recently, Direct3D10. The naming situation will clear up as we get closer to the official Windows Vista release, but all you have to know is that DirectX 10 and Direct3D10 in particular will introduce a new era in PC gaming."
Direct 3D10 will support older (current) 3D cards BUT is very much optimised for cards (not yet built) that have geometry shaders and can pass data to and from the GPU-CPU easily as well as being able to use system ram for textures. So you can have a 256mb 3D card (Vista compatible), that can use system ram as well. Onboard graphics chips will still be fine as long as they are Vista compatible. Lots of cheap ram on the mainboard will make 'em run ok. It is estmated that the GPU-CPU system can handle textures and other bits up to 6 times faster than currently optimised 3D cards can. Looks like we're in for a treat with big games, high textures, smaller polygons and lots and lots of ram. But I wouldn't expect that kind of performance at the outset.... Maybe when Vista SP2 comes out..... Check out: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6143883/p-4.html
That's simple! One's red and the other one is a whitey blue! Everyone knows that when a red light sabre and a blue light sabre connect, it sounds like 2 broomsticks hitting each other.
After reading all these posts, I've been turned off even trying WoW. Sure I'm addicted to games, but I do have a very busy life and I run out of time to play any longer. One of my clients is a game freak, eventually settling down to play FS9 (Flightsim). He plays it any time he gets a chance, spends countless dollars getting hardware upgrades and flys from Moscow to LA in REAL TIME! So there's addictions everywhere and I'm too scared to look inside and find mine.
I know it's not Slashdot as I'm still trying to work out what the hell it is. It is definitely NOT "News for Nerds." and "Stuff that matters"???? Maybe sometimes, but the whole culture of Slashdot is pretty addictive, but not like a game.
Now I'm sure I can get across Bramberg Dam using my knife only.... Damn that sniper!
Hey I knew that!...but I forgot.... But "Breakfast of Champions" was written by Kurt Vonnegut I think. I suppose that's what drew me to Venus on The Half Shell.
Kurt Vonnegut Jr - Venus on The Half Shell That deals with humanity and humbleness. I know he's not US, but Harry Harrison has got to be up there with Lem, Heinlein, Asimov and for that matter Dick.
That's what happens when I rush... Yes. I assumed that after a whole lot of R&D. I was just echoing some of the uses scramjets would have, if developed in the future. I read a little while ago that they could be used for missiles, hypersonic aircraft, deceleration and so on. As for maneuvering, well if it's pointed in the right direction in the first place....
Yes. And don't forget the scramjet. It can be made missile size easily and can travel at near Mach 10. No moving parts, cheap to make and will drop the costs of typical missiles significantly.
"Vista is coming in 2007. Vista is going to have antispyware built directly into the operating system..."
Am I little paranoid, or is selective spyware scanning a good thing? If MS and Claria are working together, (rumours were that MS was going to buy Claria) and MSAntiSpy isn't blocking it, then what hope for Vista? Does this also mean than apart from sanctioned spyware, unsanctioned spyware could be intentionally missed? Who would have that power over MS to do that? The government?
After all, collecting data about people has strong statistical importance, not just for sales.
Yeah, you're right. I am getting worried about Google, and NO ONE ELSE but you seem to understand how Google can turn bad very quickly. Too many fingers in too many pies. Everybody is so concerned about operating systems and other apps, but not the next level up.
"So, does that mean that if you installed ad-supported freeware that uses Claria's spyware to help pay for it, that that's what they're talking about when the say "pay off or shut off?" Does that mean that they're going to trip off whatever mechanism prevents you from using such software after Claria's uninstalled without uninstalling the client software?"
I read that as Claria's clients - not the (Ahem) their 'User Base'
Yeah! I can just imagine one of my kid's sims fighting some kind of battle on MP Wolfenstein...... Or for that matter, seeing what a panzerfaust does to the living room!
"Right...and any cows that go "moo" do not fart methane"
HAHAHAHA Sucked in! Cows BURP Methane!

"There's no such thing as "Direct3D 10"..."
This may add some clarification to the naming issue:

"....it means that there is a lot more mass in the Universe than we thought there was,'
Isn't that some kind of tautology? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tautology
I mean how can you determine a finite quantity in an infinite universe?
The collective mass of an infinite universe cannot be known.

Very interesting: So how many usable 'colours' do lasers have? Are higher frequencies into the maser range also work? Infrared?
Thanks
