$6 per CD including shipping is a wonderful deal, especially when you get the boxed sets. I've got some terrific Miles Davis stuff for $20 or so that would have cost me $50+ in stores.

But to the original point, yeah, absolutely, $5 across the board. If you're losing your business to a cheap alternative (iTunes), you must compete on price. Instead of buying zero $15 CDs, I would buy three $5 ones. Absolutely, every time.

Right. And further, what is the difference, really, between getting assaulted by a 14-year-old or a 19-year-old? It's a tragedy either way, but I don't see how MySpace is culpable in one scenario and not the other.

Perhaps I'm just too old to fully appreciate the social networking aspect of MySpace, but it seems there would have been some agreement upon signing up wherein you are told NOT to share personal inforamation (such as your address) and are forced to absolve MySpace of any responsibility for any consequences of your poor decision making.

Again, this is a realy tragedy for this child. She should be very, very upset at the 19-year-old male who assaulted her. But just as internet predator victims can't sue AOL, I don't see how see can successfully sue MySpace. And $30 million? Wow. Good luck.

MP3 and DVD are the standards now -- maintaing those names goes a long way with the average consumer.

I gave up on my MD player after about three weeks. Slow transfer times, arcane rules about what I was allowed to do with MY music, and a trule terrible interface with both the program and the player made the entire experience worthless.

I've had friends that swear by MiniDisc (and the Japanese apparently love them), but I just couldn't ever see the point. A cheap-o portable CD player that will read MP3s seems to be a much better alternative.

I think you're wrong. For better or for worse, the Republican Party since Goldwater has been committed to establishing a permanent Republican majority. This has gone beyond just winning two-year and four-year elections. They have installed sympathetic judges at all levels of government, had been proactive in gerrymandering congressional districts (and that's not to say Democrats haven't; it's just that the GOP is better), and have worked much harder to understand language and how best to influence the American people.

While I'm certainly tired of doomsday scenarios involving married gays burning flags and how that would piss off Benjamin Franklin, you certainly can't argue that that kind of rehtoric gets people in the ballot box. Again, for better or for worse.

And yes, you can say that Bush and Kerry were both rich white guys. But do you really think that John Kerry would be instigating war with Iran? Or repeal of the estate tax? Or Medicare Part D? Or tax cuts? These decisions matter, and there were definitely clear differences between the two candidates had you taken the time to look.
