This isn't the end of the world. Can't we all realise that there's a market for both Windows and Linux?

Those who want Windows on their netbook can buy it, those who don't can buy Linux. See?

Ultimately this is business, and it ain't pretty.

I'm so god damn sick of this 'condition'.

I paid so much attention to my IT classes, even when a shit teacher was running it.

I paid attention in my English class when my slightly-saucy but interesting female teacher ran the class.

I paid attention when my inspiring South African English teacher ran the class.

I never paid attention when I was forced to do 'Social studies' that was run by uninspiring and deadbeat middle-aged has-beens.

I never paid attention when my 60-something inpatient French teacher picked on my refusal to participate because she couldn't teach.

Stop with this bullshit labeling and for Christ's sake invest in education that is relevant, meaningful, exciting and a little bit risky.

After diagnosis I was put on Ritalin for years and it did nothing but harm.

Erm no, that's exactly the opposite of what I'm saying. As I stated, clearly:

As for his kindle stuff not working, that sucks, but he got them back in the end. Admittedly it shouldn't have happened in the first place.

And it's not the same as them remotely deactivating his device, they canceled his account and it was probably due to human error that his subscriptions were canceled, hence the reactivation.

The kindle's a BIG thing for Amazon and it's in their interest to ensure any such issues don't receive too much bad press, which again is why he got them back.

As you're probably aware, Freelance Contracting can be quite profitable and allow you to get a decent wage and time off. I've heard of plenty of people that work 3 months, take 3 months off etc. If you were to go this route, you'd need to ensure the following:
    • Your qualifications match your experience. JEE developer? Get SCWCD at least
    • If you're not in a large city, or near one that has a decent size business district, be prepared to travel
    • Sign up with a large but respectable contracting agency

I'm not sure what part-time work is available in the IT industry: contracting would probably be the most representative of what you're requiring.

Failing that, try and get qualifications and see if your current employer will support you financially (training, certification, degree?). If you're improving your CV, they may be more inclined to give you different work.

My example was crude, but wouldn't the AI behind parsing a question (it could even be obfuscated by bad grammar, locale-specific or 1337-ing it) have to be more intelligent than picking 5 or so characters from an image? I'm not knocking the difficulty or intelligence behind writing software to read images, but surely there's more understanding required to parse a question, than to read pixels (yes I'm demonstrating my shocking ignorance around ICR)?

I run a small forum for an MMO, and we solved the issue of spam bots by doing exactly what I'm suggesting.
