I've been to Hiroshima. The atomic bomb killed 140,000 people, if you include those who died of bomb-related injuries and illnesses, within (iirc) a year after the attack. If you increase that to five years, the number increases by many thousands, though I don't recall the exact number.

The bomb levelled literally the entire city -- only one building remained, now referred to as the Genbaku Dome . It's still standing, but it has been re-inforced with a steel structure to retain the shape it was in after the war.

Anyway, the point is that even if this meteor was "substantially bigger" than the 200-pound record holder, I find it extremely hard to believe that it would do even a miniscule fraction of the what the A-bomb did.

"But having a hand crank stuck to the device likely would have subjected the machine to too many wrenching forces, so it will now be connected to the AC electrical adapter.

In fact, because the adapter can rest on the ground, the power generator might take the form of a foot pedal rather than a hand crank altogether."

I'm no expert, but I have about 20 people in my office, connecting through the net through a NAT'ed firewall. If we all looked at this guy's blog at work, he would technically have 20 unique visitors coming from a single IP address, so that would actually deflate his number of visitors based on IP address. It seems like Max's law is a little one-sided.

And why should that come out of the band's pocket anyway? It wasn't the band that manufactured the records. If anything, the label and band should split the risk evenly.

I seriously think the big record labels are on borrowed time -- all they have left is American Idol type garbage that no one with a brain takes seriously. I mean, the major record labels were never that good, but you would get a Nirvana off Geffen or whatever once in a while. I can't even see that happening again. Why would a band let themselves get screwed over when it's easy enough to get on iTunes on a smaller label?

These guys are working on a fan-made follow-up to LOOM, which was one of the most interesting games of it's (or any) time. They haven't released anything on this, so who knows if it'll be any good, but I like the idea.

If Lucasarts wants to be a top developer, they should probably be taking the hint from these guys, and building up it's portfolio of francises. It's kind of weird that they didn't, because as many here have pointed out, they had several excellent games, and most of the Star Wars games have been crap, especially the old ones.

One possible explanation is that something like 50% of the games in the world are produced in Japan, where 10-12+ hour days are pretty typical at EVERY company, and game companies are no exception. A lot of the stuff the Japanese produce is crap that never makes it out of the home market, but there are definitely huge, globally competitive companies like Konami, Capcom, Square, Namco, etc. Since this is what the American companies have to compete with, it's not really surprising that game developers are overworked.
