Lets look at it this way. They've got the big name companies saying that they're using RH. However as the article states, they didn't pay for a copy of RH for every server. They may buy a couple of licenses and then get the ppl at RH to provide some service.

They need to expand their business, and the way to do that is to go out and let people know who you are and what you can provide them. We have seen from the article that the software itself isn't sustaining them. They need to get the services division up and running and racking more money.

We've all joked about MS having a huge marketing dept and how their product sucked. Now look at RH, their product doesn't really suck, lol barring the RH Linux sucks comments. So if they put the same marketing force out there they might be able to increase their revenues.

I say it might turn out to be one of the best things they've done...or it may bomb and send them back to the drawing board. But either way, it's a start.

Think about it. They want to get spending data etc, so this would be the perfect opportunity. Now I'm not bashing MS for making an embeded version of XP.

We all know CE wasn't the best...but still are making money out of it and they can most likely capitalize on XP's new features.

Making games for consoles is hard, you can't be as free as you would like to be on all your resources. Yes I know this is slowly changing esp with the PS2 and the X-box. I may not like the X-box personally, but I recognize that it has potential.

Personally Speakeasy kicks ass! I've had them for more than a year now and it's been great! 1.5Mbps down / 768 Kbps up still rocks. You kill me in order to get me to cancel my DSl line and go back the archaic modems.

I understand that there are some costs w/ making the product...but if it's based off of WINE, then isn't that part of the GPL. And since their work would be derived from the WINE project, doesn't the GPL cover this? If this is the case shouldn't it "technically" be released under the GPL as well?

I'm not exactly sure on this but wouldn't that just mean ppl can dl it? Unless of course they decide to hide the code for a long time till legal action is brought to them...then they'll say they're working on the fix...like we've seen before w/ the bttv drivers.

I'm all for doing this...but at what cost does this not warrant actually doing this anymore? If you REALLY want to run windows in your linux/unix platform, then get VMware for about the same price, but what you get is a stable product which works very well and has a proven track record. I'm not trying to discount the work that these ppl are doing/going to do, but it would help if they look at these factors and not sit in the basement and think...Hey! Well it's widely accepted, there are many apps for it that you can use, which cuts down on the programming required to get it to work.

If they did decide to go with Linux they will have to look at the infrastructure and see what apps can actually run well, they will have to code a linux, windows and mac client to connect to the device.
