Holy crap that is genius. The gnome lawyer was going to turn around and sue the underpants gnomes, using the psychological distress caused by lost underwear to get MASSIVE jury trail payouts! It all makes sense now, and it is frick'n brilliant!
I submitted this yesterday after seeing it on OSNews, but my question was: is this becoming the new business strategy for technology companies that failed in their traditional business? Just on the heels of rejoining the NASDAQ and after a period of bankruptcy instead of a restructure or new plan they announce litigation. Is SGI going to use any capital gained to rejoin the table as a technological competitor, or are they following the steps of SCO?
I've lived in Mount Pleasant, Isabella County (about the middle of Michigan) and it was in the Charter Cable Expanded Basic lineup. Now I live in East Lansing and have the CBC on the Comcast Expanded Basic lineup.
I've had it going for 48 hours straight now and it is working fine for me. I used the Nvidia instructions from the Beryl Wiki. I don't know about using it with AIGLX though. It can cause massive slow down though (the other day I had 2 bittorrents, gstreamer, evolution, Gaim, and firefox with the World Series gamecast from ESPN going and it took a few seconds to open any new windows).
It has been changed to 'wp $something' by default for a while now, but it is super easy to change to wiki (also as of a couple versions back the default 'dict $something' changed from reference.com to answers.com).
It is, I've been using Edgy and Firefox updated today. By the way, I got Beryl (formally compiz) running on Edgy a LOT easier than on Dapper - if that matters to you at all - and Automatix 2 already supports Edgy.
Anymore? I remember getting the shareware version of Doom on a floppy disk back in the pre-Pentium days. You had the first episode and had to pay for the other ones. The disk encouraged copying and sharing with friends (hence the term shareware) but was a demo. Games and Winzip were like that as long as I can remember (winzip having a 30-day expiration), I've never heard the term shareware used for free fully functional software.
There is a check and balance system: appeals courts, superior courts, and supreme courts. Now the structure varies state to state, but every state has an system to appeal cases and charges.
What do you find harder about it? I've only been using for a few days now (since I updated to Ubuntu to Edgy) but to me it seems pretty much the same, just now the close tab button is on each tab (but I never used that anyways, I always middle clicked to close tabs or use Ctrl-W) and I find the little button on the side is EXTREMELY useful for when there are 8 or more tabs open at once (especially for when doing research papers, being able to quickly select the article I want instead of jumping through tabs is great).
Simple checksums are subject to forgery, yes. But to this date there are no known collisions of SHA-1 checksums, and as far as I know SHA-256 doesn't even have such a weakness. If one did an MD5 sum of every machine (since MD5 is quick and simple), a SHA-1 of a large random sample, and a SHA-256 of another large random sample then it should be fairly easy to identify compromised machines. Remember these are all cryptographic hash functions, and a such should be able to identify both purposeful and accidental errors. Of course that doesn't prevent modifying the votes in the database, but in our current system we can't prevent people switching ballot boxes (and every elections there are numerous examples and reports of ballot boxes being thrown out and uncounted).
I don't have absolute belief in the state. I believe there is a fair chance that if I was taken in I would be harshly interrogated by the cops and presented with false evidence trying to get me to sign a confession. I also think that by being cooperative and innocent that the system will work (maybe not as fast as I would like, but work all the same). Now this is only for my fingerprints being found somewhere a crime took place, if there was someone accusing me of something or someone picking me out of a lineup that is a whole other can of worms.
Let them be at my doorstep. I am fine with that. In the court system they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt in order to get a conviction for a criminal case. If they come to my door step I will be happy to go downtown, tell them what I was doing there, tell them everything I know, and do anything I can to help them solve the crime. If they do end up charging me I am confident that I can raise reasonable doubt.
That may be a solution, release the code after the election, and run checksums on all the meachines. But that would require changes in code for every election so people can't depend on exploits they may find.
yeah, I was kind of ticked when I updated firefox and lost my dictionary keyword one. I believe they used to include imdb by default too. Both were super easy to add again, but it annoyed me that it previously just worked and they changed it so that I had to jump through hoops.
Are you kidding me? Have you looked at the demographics of Comedy Central? Adult Swim on Cartoon Network? Have you heard of MTV, MTV2, VH-1, or Fuse? Have you seen the amount of programming on Fox aimed at the teen/pre-teen market? Radio, on the other hand, I will give you, because teens haven't listened to the radio since the 80's. Seriously that is completely idiotic, everyone I know has a CD player in their car with at least half having some sort of MP3 player hookup (either tape, radio transmitter, or line-in).
I always thought ice hockey was European, it is hockey in my area of America but then again I'm from Michigan and were about as Canadian as you get in America (for example we have at least 3 hockey teams playing in the Ontario Hockey League, and the CBC is in the standard cable lineup).
I had JUST read this on Google's blog, and when I clicked back to Slashdot, boom: deja vu on the top of the front page (and not from a dupe!:P). Google blog article.
Yes, students will contine to flock in. For two reasons (the two reasons I adopted it): Class listings and searching. I can click on my section number and see all the people who listed it in their profile, therefor allowing my to easily contact classmates about assignments and such. And the search is a HUGE factor on campus, mainly because on Saturday morning when you are trying to look up the name of the girl you were chatting and dancing with it is sometimes hard to remember that last name due to alcohol consumption, but you can almost always remember part of it along with remembering parts of conversations can very quickly narrow your search to exactly who you are looking for. Also the event invite has become the main way of communicating parties on campus, before facebook I knew of a large party ever other week - after facebook there I know of one every night of every weekend (and Thursday night is usually considered the start of the weekend here).
The best drinking games revolve around kick-ball my friend. My favorite being Slosh-ball (second base is a keg, and between third base and home is a slip-and-slide).
The fireworks makes me think... I live near an Native American reservation. Because of treaties and such this area is treated as a sovereign nation (they have their own police complete with grenade launchers and fully automatic weapons with a SWAT-like force). Now because it is treated like a sovereign nation you are able to buy illegal fireworks there* (three people sell them, one out of his garage). Would this be something that I may be able to buy/use on tribal lands without federal interference?
*I would like to note that it is illegal to take the fireworks off the reservation, but I've never heard of anyone getting in trouble while transporting them. A few people I know got in trouble after launching a couple dozen off of reservation grounds though.
What if they use Linux like TiVo does? TiVo releases the source of their changes to the linux kernel, but that is pretty much it. http://www.tivo.com/linux/linux.asp
Just curious... how much petroleum based fertilizer is used in the US? I am from a farming area of Michigan (mainly corn, soy beans, and sugar beets) and in my experience only fertilizers used are potash, nitrogen, magnesium, and phosphates.
When I first read this I thought it was a joke, but maybe this is what you are looking for:

How many radio and TV stations

Ahh! Urea is used heavily around here, so that makes sense. Thanks!
