I agree. It bothered me enough to disable the weapon breakdown and monster respawning, and after doing so I had a considerably better experience.
The guns broke down to fast in SS2 and when you add low ammo and respawning monsters that takes fun out of the game and makes it harder.
Well, both games are in my Top 5, but Deus Ex actually rewarded you with stories, points and situations that altered based on your gameplay. Kill someone earlier in the game, and a cutscene won't contain that character. Every level, you had at least two clear options on completing it... stealth or head-on, guns blazing. While System Shock 2 might have seemed more open ended, it most certainly was not; however that's a testament to the developers for making a game that seemed open ended when it was fairly straight forward.
I don't know, I can't really contrast the two games since they're both personal favorites.
System Shock 2 was far better than Deus Ex, in my opinion. For one thing, System Shock 2 felt quite nonlinear, while Deus Ex railroaded the player through the game from start to finish.
Deus Ex contained some racist content that had me considering just uninstalling the game for a while. What content offended you? Are you of a particular race they offended?
I'm not a namby pamby liberal who doesn't go out of his way to be offended by comments or content that doesn't directly apply to me, so I might have missed it.
Get the hi-res textures! http://shtup.home.att.net/
There's other links as well, and many other mods like the Rebirth mod - http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/topic,8.0.html
System Shock was great, and I agree, in my opinion it is better than SS2, but only just. Unfortunately, it is so old now it is painful to look at. I so wish they would remake it, sadly it is not going to happen.
One thing about XP installs that drives me nuts is no native SATA HDD support.
Lets hope they have put common SATA chip set support, or at least native USB drivers to be able to load them without the need to try and dig up a floppy disk or frig around with slipsteaming. You do realize that SATA support is controller specific right?
No, I see a little issue blown out of dramatic proportion, and people over complicating a simple issue.
The software isn't activated - so uninstall it? Or activate it? Problem solved. It's THAT simple.
Okay, so, what's the big deal here? Why doesn't this guy just activate Visio? Or uninstall it? Why would you have a piece of software installed on your computer if you're not going to use it? C'mon, I know this is Slashdot, but do you need Microsoft to "fix" minor issues so the truly incompetent don't have issues when going far out of their way to create problems?
Where are these elitist forums? I was accepted at many with open arms and, in retrospect, treated respectfully in light of really dumb questions while learning.
You mean you needed more elitism? Phew. I almost abandoned FreeBSD for that reason years ago, and I still am afraid to return to some BSD forums, where Linux users are treated as fanboys. No such thing on Linux forums (yet).
Wow, you really need to upgrade your 486.
All I can say from lots of experience is the following.
With Azureus running = Forget about doing anything like gaming.
With uTorrent running = Forget you're actually downloading something there's so little performance hit.
Of course it's not representative; I was posting it as an example.
I almost want to accuse you of being "anal" but I'm not sure if that might be a little risque within the context of this conversation.
"Debbie Does Dallas" is hardly representative of the porn market. It's only being released for the campy classic it is... and because it's so mainstream as porn titles go. I'd imagine that other mainstream crap is soon to follow- Playboy and other softcore productions. It may be "adult", but it's not very exciting to porn addicts.
Just because you keep posting, doesn't make your opinion true, or make the argument hold any less water.
Regardless, the point is moot, since porn *is* being released on BD with the first release being Debbie Does Dallas. Since the porn industry generated considerable amounts of media attention, the BDA has relented.
Can we give up that stupid porn argument yet? I've posted this more than once, but that keeps coming up. Porn will not decide the new format.
First, when VHS and Beta appeared, the only real way to see porn films was in a XXX theater. You couldn't watch them in the privacy of your home.
Today, I can watch porn on VHS, or DVD. Or pay-per-view. Or satellite. Or the 'net. Or video-CD. Or I could play a porn related video game. Porn helped VHS because it was really the first time you could watch porn in the privacy of your home, so the inability to do that on Beta was big. That's not an issue today.
Please, can we just drop that stupid argument? It doesn't hold much water any more.
Your comment is ignorant and uninformed. Azureus is an extremely well programmed and efficient application, with considerably more advanced features (that might be over the average users head) than uTorrent. It's network programming has been very clean over the years while uTorrent has suffered through various network and CPU saturation issues. Regarding this "bloat" you speak of, you might be referring to the additional overhead of using a JRE, which is required for portability - in case you didn't know, Azureus works on practically any operating system, or at least those that have a JRE. This overhead can also be lowered from the default 64MB heap.
If you really do have examples of "bloat", please cite the appropriate.java file.
uTorrent is pretty nice, yeah. I wish more developers would follow its example (I'm looking at you, bloatware piece of shit Azureus).
It's too late... the intelligent Slashdot community is not surprised by this, however the knee jerk reactionaries had already chalked this up to another reason people shouldn't be playing video games. NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox, CNN all reported that Seung Hui Cho had an interest in violet video games when this was fresh in everyone's mind, however now gamesindustry.biz is 'revealing' that he didn't? Which one of these news services do you think had more effect on the impressionable minds of US citizens?
Has anyone considered that, with the help of shifting scenes, the demise of hip hop, MySpace, internet sharing, etc. that people are starting to listen to good music that's outside of RIAA's domain? Most electronic music is artist direct, or their labels don't work with RIAA and the exploding hipster scene abhors RIAA.
RIAA will continue to spin this as software piracy to the end, consumers will suffer, citizens will suffer from political policies and artists who are on board with RIAA will (deservedly) suffer.
Sounds like Jedi from Star Wars Galaxies. Sure does... having played EQ / EQ2 for many years, SW Galaxies, and briefly playing other MMORPG's, Blizzard has blatantly copied what made them most successful, while removing many of the restrictions that turned away casual gamers and the "everyman" who doesn't have the capacity or motivation to reach an endgame style of play.
I guess the itty bitty little article on the history of Photoshop was all right, but the linked comic really stunk. Aside from lousy grammar and poor sentence flow, it just wasn't funny.
I'm not sure what AIM buddy icons involved, but there's been massive icon packs available to simulate the look of IM's for years now. I know, at least 7 years ago, I had glass / glossy looking icon sets that looked similar to ICQ, MSN and AIM so I could differentiate between networks, but it looked considerably better.

MythTV already has an alternative with Schedules Direct - http://www.mythtv.org/ . How did this make front page?

Hip hop's dead? Nobody told me! Canadians may be more musically savvy than you.

Well, there goes my conspiracy... thankfully it's only Monday.
Blockbuster is owned by Viacom. Viacom owns Paramount Pictures. Paramount is one of the proponents of Blu-Ray.
With earlier versions of Windows, prior to Windows XP, you can download any and all updates without having to validate your Windows.
Aside from setting precedence if it passes, how will this affect other countries?
