after some guys appeared in a video punching and blaming a kid with Down syndrome
then proposed and strongly sustained his idea of censoring the Internet to protect the young.
Anyone else see a glaring contradiction here? If it was censored no one would have ever seen the video, in turn the kid would have never had his story shown, and in turn no one would have ever cared about him getting punched. The problem with censoring "graphical" content is it promotes exactly what the supporters of the censoring tell you it's trying to avoid, apathy.
Science can't prove that ANYTHING doesn't exist...
What if science where to prove a contradiction to something existing? For example, "an object of considerable mass traveling at or surpassing the speed of light" When you apply the relation between mass and velocity you realize that this is an impossibility. So you're left with two options: science can never actually proveanything, or that it is possible to prove that something cannot exist.
if you find any of them plausible, there's no reason you shouldn't believe in them all
Many people would believe that ghosts(of deceased humans) contradictory to many religions, and the religions themselves contradictory of each other. Given that, you must choose what to believe in, the idea of God i assume seems a lot better to most people then ghosts, cause who wants to be scared by dead people and have to be stuck on earth after they die? There's very little direct evidence of a lot of things, and especially scientific ones, who's to say Einstein's Theories of Relativity are how the phenomenon they explain works, or much of quantum mechanics or string holds water, they where made up to explain/model something we don't understand, much like what an atheist would say about religion.
Secondly.... The "Subject" heading for the parent of this seems to be a little bigoted. There are plenty of other countries that the majority, and far above the majority, believes in some religion. The Middle East has Islam, except for Israel which has Judaism, the US and much of Europe are Christian, many far East counties its Buddhism, ect. From what I can tell you're just attempting to put down Americans which exerting yourself as some superior human. And usually those that flaunt intelligence lack it.
How is this really that bad? Even when the pilots suck, and the traffic controllers are asleep at the helm we still manage to be safer then driving. Seems to me like flying is pretty damn safe, and even better if everyone is paying attention to whats going on.
I find it funny that they are a law group that doesn't understand copyright. The fact that their server replies to my HTTP GET means that they have given me the write to view what i receive. I am always allowed to view ANY piece of copyrighted work, I am just not allowed to "copy" it and distribute it as my own.
There is also the possibility of MECOs (Magnetospheric Eternally Collapsing Objects) which are an alternative theory to black holes, there are even multiple quasars that seem to exhibit their characteristics. Black holes and MECOs cannot both exist, so it's an interesting controversy with evidence that seems to support both.
No matter what you do, realize the Mathematics is not a spectator sport.
I hear this a lot, and as it is somewhat true, it completely depends on both the person and the math you're studying. I had no problem just watching through advanced calculus, but found out that I couldn't do that in real/complex analysis. It completely depends on where your strengths are, when you feel comfortable, go ahead and move on, but when you need to never hesitate to keep working on something until you fully understand it.
This is i believe a nano-itx. There is also a pico-itx which is slightly smaller, draws less power, ect. But i'm actually more interested in a Mobile-ITX which should come out next year, but was demoed at Computex earlier this year. They boasted it could run windowsXP drawing only 0.5Watts.
The bill didn't provide any additional funding, only stipulated that federal funding could now be used to fund stem-cell research.
And who gives a shit where the stem cells are from?
Sadly, the government doesn't have an unlimited supply of money, so in order to keep up other current projects it would have to add money to it's R&D list. Second, there are a large number of people who care about the destruction of a human embryo when there are other viable alternatives, like umbilical cord stem cells which don't destroy anything.
Li-on batteries fail, for the most part, from improper exposure to heat, usually 180 degrees Fahrenheit and up. So my question is what where his pants doing arround 180 degrees in the first place?
Investigators for the plaintiffs provided jurors evidence that the IP address (a number assigned to a subscriber connected to an Internet Service Provider), a modem Media Access Control address and Thomas' username all link her to the pirating.
Pretty strong evidence, lets take a look at the defense...
Toder has also suggested that computer hacking or IP spoofing could as explanations. Spoofing is someone pretending to be somebody else by taking over their IP address.
As I assume most slashdotters know, IP spoofing is a "blind attack" it would be impossible to pull off connecting to kazaa, and then share files using her IP. As for computer hacking, it would be very easy to find a virus or rootkit upon examination of the HDD. A simple Virus Scan and a check of the MBR would find 99% of virii/rootkits, yet no direct evidence was presented.
It's one of those rare cases that even though the RIAA is still a group of douchebags, they are right. My question is how did they come up with $222,000 of damages? Using an iTunes estimate she would have had to upload ~224,242 songs, or at 4-5MB/file, almost 1100 GB worth of data.
Hey in New York state if I say he looked dangerous to me, and believed he intended to cause me harm I can do pretty much whatever I want to a trespasser, including shotting him/her.
Somebody please explain the appeal of Halo. I've played Halo 2, and I thought that it was so bad, that I actually returned it to the store. Terrible graphics, pathetic sound, gameplay physics that make no sense, and the exact same story as Doom. In my opinion, it's actually one of the worst first person shooters ever made, (yes, even compared to Wolf 3D, which was at least entertaining). Could somebody please explain why people like this game? Is it just that the people who like Halo have never played another first person shooter, so they simply don't realize how bad the Halo series really is? What's the deal, here? What am I missing?
First off you're missing that Halo doesn't take place on Mars, and doesn't consist of teleporter accidents that cause demons to appear on Mars. The graphics compared to other games of the time, where decent enough, although dark scenes where used WAY too much to hide the lack of detail. The physics engine was very decent in 2, compared to others of the time and even today, sure it didn't have the grav-gun of HL:2 but it was satisfactory.
My question is what FPS are you comparing it to? Because there aren't very many that top the original Halo on my list; Perfect Dark, UT GOTY, and that's about it. Story play usually isn't what sells FPS games, it's replay value, and specifically multiplayer value, which Halo excels in, especially with a 4 system link.
But you also forgot the little known 36th amendment, amended very shortly after the 35th, that states that you can also "carry suspicious substances(putty) while wearing at lit breadboard in an airport lobby."
So police had to taser a college kid for asking an uncomfortable question of a politician "to stop anarchy"?
Sounds to me like the sort of anarchy we could use a little more of.
At what point in the video do you see him ask a question that he allows Kerry to respond to? I'll make this easier for you, there isn't a time where he allows Kerry to make any meaningful response.
Senator Obama has posited wider broadband penetration as a way to create job opportunities for the urban poor and says he'll overhaul fees the government charges phone companies to pay for it.
I honestly don't see how this will work. If he charges the communications companies more then in turn they will just charge the customer more. All this will accomplish is driving up the price of broadband, making is harder for the urban poor to pay for something that I believe will be almost a necessity down the road all this will do is help shut out the poor people from what they will need to improve themselves down the road.
What they did amounted to torture. He was pinned down and immobilized. Aside from the noise he was creating (which got WORSE, not better after the tasing) he was already completely under control. There was more reason NOT to use torture on this young man than to use it. "punishment" is not in the description of what it means to be a police or security officer.
I watched the video too. And what do you believe would be the correct method of detaining someone who is resisting arrest and creating a disturbance, because if you watched the video you can be very sure he was doing both of those. The main thing police are there for is to stop anarchy. He managed to get his hands free multiple times and just before the taser. The cops attempt to get him to cooperate, yet he completely refuses. They tell him if he resists they will taser him, yet they hold off the taser until he drags the cops that are attempting to hold him to the ground, and then they still wait until he refuses to accept the cuffs and frees himself twice more. At this point the cops have two options, arm lock him, which for someone refusing the arrest would likely suffer a broken or dislocated arm, or to taser him, quickly subduing him and making their job a lot easier. And for all of you that are saying that they just used the taser because it's the new toy, that may be true, but you have to also be tasered before you are authorized to use one, they knew full well what the taser does.
I'm fascinated by the number of posts saying this somehow shows conservatives are 'less smart' then liberals.
"M appeared four times more frequently than W, conditioning participants to press a key in knee-jerk fashion whenever they saw a letter."
Let's take that for example. Now "W" is only shown 20% of the time, that means "M" is shown 80%. With 80% odds, it seems likely that "M" will be the next letter to show up. Maybe a conservative will go from his past experience to try and predict the letter will likely be an "M", thus getting ready to hit the space bar as soon as the letter appears. And maybe the liberal has to sit and analyze the situation every time the letter is displayed, not taking into account the past. Much like they seem to do politically. Who would be less intelligent in this circumstance? I would say neither, because learning from the past AND paying attention to the present are both important. Although using this reasoning I think you could formulate that the liberals are neglecting the past, and therefore are inherently dumber, because everyone can see the difference between a "W" and an "M" even the conservatives, but they are attempting for speed not as much accuracy. I don't believe that myself, but I'm saying that reasoning the other way around is completely possible.
Oh, and just having fun. The conservatives seem to think about the problem less and go with instinct. However, in the majority of the posts I've seen, the liberals are doing the same thing. Simply pointing out that they are intellectually superior without even thinking if this could mean anything else.
Last i checked, they really don't check past 1 overwrite unless its a matter of national security. Anything beyond 1 overwrite takes special equipment, to read, and even then there's an accuracy issue. Also, the DoD uses a 7 pass for most classified data, so I would be surprised if you could read 12 overwrites in any reasonable amount of time.
The ipod touch is virtually free for apple. It's 90% iphone hardware and software, almost all of their R&D(the biggest cost to them) was already done on their first project. Any ipod touches sold will be almost pure profit.
The girl's attorney said that thicker glass, which isn't mandated by government regulations, would have prevented the UNBELTED occupants from being ejected from the truck when it crashed.
Call me heartless, but if the girls didn't care about their safety, why should Ford have?
Back to the article... There still is not a better batter, for size and weight then a li-on. So I'm willing to risk it in applications where I trust the people making the hardware to understand li-on's downfall, it's very bad heat tolerance. The Dell case was one of these, had the laptops been designed with sufficient cooling, many of the incidents would have stopped, even with the defective batteries. TFA claims that the new round of Nokia batteries may, by themselves, short-circuit and overheat, that's not a problem with the battery chemistry, but a problem with the manufacturer.

So then please call me when I can use my bcm4321a/b/g+n&bluetooth card on linux.

Coincidence that Canadian dollar actually surpasses the US dollar and then this happens? I think not...
By doing so, they block anyone else such as COVAD or Cavalier from renting the copper for competitive access.
In my experience, copper CAN'T compete with Fiber. Does that mean that this really doesn't apply?
Hey in New York state if I say he looked dangerous to me, and believed he intended to cause me harm I can do pretty much whatever I want to a trespasser, including shotting him/her.
