Sure they do, if their projected revenue numbers assume a certain share of the activation for each iPhone sold. Maybe they took into account that a certain percentage would be unlocked and used on other carriers. I simply cannot believe Apple didn't expect that to happen. I think Jobs' statements have more to do with being cautious regarding their deal with at&t. They certainly don't need a lawsuit from them over breach of contract.
Where is it dictated by law that I must allow web advertising on my computer? I was surfing the web long before any advertisers were around. I was blocking ads via my hosts file long before ad-blockers. I was recording TV on VHS long before Tivo. If anything, they should be paying me. I don't like advertising and there is nothing that can legally compel me to view it. Personally, I think any web presence that depends solely on advertising for revenue should be banned from the internet. For a while, the internet was one place you could go for information without having to sift through advertising. The entire advertising business model lacks any sort of morality, so why should I second guess my choice to block advertising. The internet is chock full of deceptive advertising links and is completely without regulation. Unless the advertising companies will allow me to sue them for being to exposed to something that violates my personal morality and freedom, they can take there ads and shove it.
Activation $$ is just gravy. The phone is not subsidized AND you can buy the phone directly from Apple, so Apple has no stake in whether or not you activate your iPhone at all. The only loser is at&t. Even then, it probably not much of a loss. Calling it a loss is like calling reductions to the final draft of a spending bill a "cut" even though the final number is still an increase over the previous budget.
I have Comcast have no problems with any type of torrent downloads...as long as there are seeders.
However, I also have no problem with Comcast restricting the type of traffic that comes across their network. It's their network, so they get to decide what they choose to allow on it. It's no different than blocking SMTP traffic to keep people from running mail servers. When you are running bittorrent, you are both a client and a server. My employer-sponsored insurance premiums keep going up every year because our claims as a group are so high. We are a small company, so every dollar makes a big difference. As it is, the company only pays 40% of our premiums. Instead of punishing all of us, only those who are using more should have to pay increased premiums.
Just as with auto-insurance, I see no problem with increasing premiums for "bad" health. Insuring unhealthy people is not good for insurance companies or healthy people. Health insurance is exactly that, insurance. It was designed as an exception, not a rule. You pay a set premium and the insurance companies bets that you will stay healthy and not need to use it....just like auto insurance companies are betting that you won't get into an accident.
Getting a speeding ticket or other type of violation is an indicator that you may be at increased risk for an accident, thus your premium goes up. Why should it not be the same if you're becoming a fat slob who will have a heart attack, requiring complicated and expensive surgery. I'd be willing to drop my employer-based insurance pay full-fare premiums with an insurance companies that did proper health screening.

This completely violates the way the election system was built. You cannot swap votes with someone in another state because there is no such thing as a national election. All states hold their own elections. When you cast a vote, you are casting it for your state to decide which candidate gets the electoral votes for your state, not as a direct vote for the president (aka, popular vote). This is why it is technically possible for a candidate to win with electoral votes, but lose the popular vote.

They've been pushing for unrestricted abortions. Now, anyone can kill their baby and Muslims are being given special prayer privileges in public schools all over the country. On top of that, the U.S government is prosecuting Marines for alleged crimes that were originally reported to US journalists from enemy combatant. If we fought WWI and WWII this way, we'd all be speaking German. Soldiers are now wearing cameras on their helmets to prove that they were fired upon first when they engage the enemy. This is sad.
I'm an independent agnostic, but something just doesn't seem right about this. It looks to me like the end goal is to make the U.S a Muslim country. First, let's send our military to the Middle East, politicize the war to the point that they can no longer defend themselves and let them all die. Personally, I don't think we have enough information to determine "the" cause for global warming. I don't think it matters anyway. It's more likely a natural phenomenon. Even if it is due to humans, it's still natural since we are part of nature. Humans don't live outside of nature simply because of our technology.

It doesn't matter if I am already a customer. This goes for snail mail and phone calls. Just because I bought something from a company once doesn't mean I should suffer perpetual interruption of my time.
Apparently, many people still don't use the address bar to go to websites. They actually type addresses or the second-level domain name in the search engine that happens to be the default home page. My mother-in-law has a HP-Compaq laptop that had yahoo.com as her default home page. SO, if someone buys a computer where yahoo.com is default, but they prefer to use google, they simply type google in the search box to get to google.com. My mom does something similar. She doesn't remember URLs, she relies solely on the default home page search to navigate the internet.
I blows my mind that after all these years, people still do this.
