Yes, and we (in US) don't care because we capitalist. As long a technology is productive, we use it, without any regrets about how it was developed. The GP, I think, was pointing out that OP has been acting in a capitalist fashion, while putting down capitalism.
I now understand why some Senators get elected so many times, they really are in sync with their constituents. And the idea of representative democracy lives on! Although with bills like this, the democracy part is vanishing...
So basically you are accusing her of rhetoric. Well, welcome to the real world: she's a politician. They all engage in this kind of behavior. Yes, everybody, including insert-the-name-of-you-favorite-politician-here.
She might not my favorite candidate for office, but I would not dismiss her or her ideas just because of that.
Boilerplate sayings? Every time I hear every candidate say middle-class and tax-cut in the same sentence I want to stab my self in the eye with a fork.
Appeal to masses? Well how do you expect a president to run the country without that? And speaking of which, she's probably the only candidate left that lacks in this respect.
Hillary is a slight bit psycho
Hillary is just plain frightening
a total lunatic Time and time again I hear this said about her, without ANY proof/examples/logic/etc. behind it. Can you please explain yourself, or is this post just a troll?
I got a feeling reading the original post that the author was not that impressed by the technology. You have to admit that getting a 3D representation from a 2D image is very impressive - it's not like we can get 3D from 1D image...
NYC's public transportation is excellent. I take the subway everyday from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and not from the yuppie part of Brooklyn either. I wouldn't trade my subway ride, where I can read my book, for sitting in traffic for anything. And yes, I would be willing to pay $9 to get into Manhattan in a car when I really need to. In fact, I wish they would make it $20 to discourage needless use of the roads. In addition to a) less idiots on the roads and b) more clean air, you also get a faster bus service because of a).
This might sound naive, but what about attaching this thing to the ISS? Sure would make maintenance a lot more easier, with all those regular flights and round-the-clock human presence.
Is there anything fundamentally incompatible with the design of the Hubble and the ISS? (orbit, need to rotate, etc.?)
You post is interesting (as in mod-parent-up!), but I have a small correction:
a country that's recently stepped up anti-piracy efforts (albeit biased against dissidents) should be "a country that's recently stepped up anti-dissident efforts (lately via anti-piracy laws)"
From what I'm hearing, piracy in Russia is a bad as ever.
Anyone who does is obviously made of wood, and therefore a witch^D Sorry man, you couldn't read anything after that, did you get disconnected from your terminal?
I'm currently in possession of an XO-1 that was lost somewhere in New York City. If you are a rightful owner, and can accurately describe any special markings, accessories that it came with, place where you lost it, etc., I'll be happy to return it to you.
Not to defend anyone (since I don't know anything about Nigerian politics anyway), but according to wikipedia, Dare Obasanjo, is the son of the FORMER president of Nigeria. The current president is Umaru Yar'Adua.
Please do not confuse atheism and inefficient economic/political system. Of course people will steal supplies and slack off on the job, if they can get away with it and have no chance of promotion. Unless of course they are connected to their bosses or to the Party.
I believe U.S. and Europe have plenty of successful atheists who perform well on the job. They do it not a divine spirit told them so (or they are afraid of it, as you are implying), but because they have something to work for.
I usually stay out of this debate as well, but I can't agree with you that this is a good example for the argument. The person/persons responsible here were trying to damage the cable. If they didn't have a gun, they could've achieved the same this with something else like an ax.

I think the GP was half-jokingly saying that such paranoia is the goal of the terrorists and caused by terrorists.

Well, that, and I was also being an ass
Sorry, couldn't resist... uh-oh there goes my karma!

Well, this is "News for Nerds" site after all. I, for one, openly admit my nerdiness, and proudly declare that I do care.
Not in New York City. And not in many cities for that matter. However, even on green you have to wait a while to let the opposite traffic pass.

Seems like a very good place to post this.

I'll respond ONLY to legitimate claims.
As long as $$$ is there, businessmen will come. Just look at Russia, with its arrests.

yeah, I need to catch up on my reading comprehension... :)
