The problem with your assement here is the definition of what's illegal. Sure, that's fine if it's ensuring that violent criminals are being taken care of, but as it's used against (yours, ours, my) children for downloading music, or later down the road against those that disagree or speak against what they do (or what we don't know that they do), then you have a problem.

And maybe if you think everyone is just group hating the government, maybe you need to pay closer attention.

Software is too dynamic to reach a 'finished' state for something as complex as an operating system. There is always something to fix, improve, or some new bug/vulnerability to patch. No, XP will never reach that 'golden' state where it doesn't have problems/security holes. Rather M$ will just move it's focus to Vista (mistakenly early I suspect, as the majority of user base is most likely just getting to XP now), and open up that new can of worms.

On a side note, this is the precise reason M$ needs to build an O/S from the ground up with security in mind and abandon it's legacy of insecurity.

  6. Scoping on The End of Native Code? · · Score: 2, Insightful

The level of control you need as a programmer is related to the work that you are doing. If you are writing an O/S, low level network app, embedded system app, etc, then you'd better have the control afforded by non-managed code. If you are just writing web-based business logic programs then higher level languages are a better fit. Overall though, as they move languages to fit the lowest common denominator those of us that were forced to learn the lower languages will find their value increased. Not to mention that those understand the more diffcult programming concepts encompassed by managing memory or multithreading are going to better grasp other languages and complex concepts (if you don't believe me, study compliers and see how related all programming language concepts are).

Let me tell you what, fuck that upgrade twice a month where we all go in for surgery (though I'm sure the Medical world wouldn't mind). On top of these reasons, I think that it's just plain wrong.

When did we as Americans become scared of everything that might happen? Those aren't the ideals this country was founded on. Liberty had a price, and it was in blood. It still does. So why should we mistakenly trade away our freedoms earned with blood in order to avoid future blood? This cost won't go away. When did most Americans become sheep afraid to speak out and protect what they care about? This is an obvious abuse of power that should be checked, and if the other branches of our government won't do their jobs, then it's our job as people to address it.

If you outright kill someone, things change. If you steal, people get pissed at you. If you punch someone, they go rounds with you. Isn't it more important when rating a game that it enforces proper consequences upon the player?

This is in addition to how ridiciulous it is that you can Mod it, therefore it's MA. Guess what, I can render porn in another well known program, called Windows, so I want it rated MA too (MA for what I say when it crashes).
