While I am not a lawyer, I am a trouble maker, and you should probably let your friend know that just because they've bought a CD does not give them the right to download the song from bittorrent. It gives them the right to play the CD they bought, with a bunch of other goofy restrictions. The illegal downloading that they don't approve of...yeah...they're doing it.

IANAL, but if a person or company makes profit by selling virtual gold, depending on location, they'd probably need to declare it for taxes. Since selling said virtual gold goes against the EULA, and constitutes misuse of the product, it seems like they're kinda trapped there. If I mugged somebody, I wouldn't declare it on my taxes.

Of course I'm thinking somebody operating in the USA. I imagine most of these people or companies are farming in China or somewhere similar. Things are probably different.

I normally don't give cowards any attention, but your comment addresses a valid issue with the current cable system.

While yes, I agree that what gp is doing is stealing, your comparisons are not valid. I can go to a restaurant and order a chicken salad. I don't just go in, and they ask me if I want the basic meal, the extended meal, or the variety meal, and I can add steak as an option if I choose (ok, maybe in a buffet?).

The same thing with shoplifting. I don't go into a clothing store and get asked which clothing package I'd like, or if I'd like to save money by bundling my clothing with my cell phone plan. You choose what you want, and pay for it. Everybody's happy.

With my cable provider, I MUST pay for 200 channels in order to get HBO. I MUST pay for all 50 of the extended tier channels in order to get Sci-Fi. I essentially pay $80 a month for 4 channels I watch. And I do it, because it's worth it to me, but come on. It's not 1990 anymore. If Time Warner wanted to provide me with the level of service where receive and pay for only the channels I want, they could do that. They choose not to. And they're going to start losing more and more money as the result of an outdated business practice, NOT, as you would suggest, the criminal nature of people.

People in some of south African countries believe that having sex with a virgin will cure AIDS. This, of course, isn't true, and just leads to greater spread of HIV. While yes, you must preform one of a number of fairly specific actions to get AIDS, it's not a problem in Brazil because they're all sex crazed lunatics or idiots. It's a problem because of a lack of education. The practice I cited is only one example.

On the moon, we could construct a special government base with massive telescopes aimed at the earth. This could a step where you hold your drivers license up towards the sky, or out the window.

Lawmakers in Connecticut are absolutely gienus for developing this new age verification method based on space travel. I'm going to move there now.

While I don't disagree with you, since the example of Microsoft which you cited is obviously the government working against the people, I wouldn't be surprised to see them actually go after a company "which virtually everyone likes", particularly if some of the other companies put more of their money in Washington.

Still, I don't see iTunes being a monopoly, ever. There are simply too many other places to get music. The alternatives might not be as good, but that doesn't make it a monopoly.

On the other hand, if you walked into a restaurant and ordered 'Pig', you might get bacon, ham, or pork. Perhaps even a pork medallion wrapped in a strip of sweet, sweet bacon.
