Can we please stop posting articles about having more women in STEM. It will never be 50/50 and won't ever get much higher than it is now. It is what it is.
Then why was the ratio closer decades ago?
Some of the best database and analytics people I've had the honor of working with are women, and wouldn't be surprised if their gender gives them an advantage at times.
Was this an old line, formerly state owned telephone company killing a service that competed with its main business, or just an unsuccessful acquisition being put down?
As an American, I had never heard of this particular service.
Why couldn't tokens be purchased online? Under the electronic systems, the average rider would still have to 'fumble around' for their ticket anyway. Leaving them visible exposes them to theft.
Once again the War on Freedom (drugs, terror, etc) spreads its casualties in the strangest ways. The largest danger a heroin addict poses is to himself.
This from a State where the data sharing laws are so ancient they cannot provide electronic files but only paper printouts, at 50 cents a page. And where our State Stormtroopers speed around illegally in unmarked cruisers, writing tickets for the same laws they are violating. Why am I not surprised that in Massachusetts' halls of justice, the only justice is in the halls?
I can't say I'm all that sorry to see evil (MAFIAA) go after the bad (shady lyric sites) since many of these sites are copying from each other, hiding lyrics behind JavaScript, have pop-ups, and in some cases carrying potentially infected ads. There are a few sites like SongMeanings.com that also include user comments, but most operations just seem to be trading other people's copyrights for ad impressions.
There's a difference between taking photos or video, and just posting text to social media. This sounds like a court type of thing, where cell phones are allowed but taking photos/video is not.
We were going to get rid of it, but old people who still write checks at the grocery store wrote letters to Congress saying the world would end if that happened.
Oh goody, so instead of people who don't play politics with the manger get fired, people who don't play politics with the manager or the union rep get fired. Sounds like such an improvement.
With the trend toward government medicine, politicians now have a whole new reason to push their tastes on us for our health. This trend will only continue, under the usual reasons:
For the children, of whom 30% are obese in the US.
For your health, because we're paying for it!
For the environment, lighter people cost less to mass transit.
I'd rather see limits on sodium, since it's overloaded into everything from dough to freezer meals. Try cutting back on it, and you'll suddenly see it everywhere.
Rumor has it that Snowden has some sort of dead man's switch that triggers the immediate release of all the files, unredacted, if he is harmed or imprisoned.
That would make him even more of a target, by people that would like everything released immediately and unredacted. Such as the Russians.
You're assuming he's not traded the unredacted copies to the Russians for security. Although if that were the case, I'd expect he'd live there permanently. Perhaps in this scenario, the Russians have already decided that, but to limit the damage in Capitalist America, aren't saying so.
And they're all available only in Comic Sans.

Considering the average kid is more comfortable using new technology, this isn't a bad idea.
Was this an old line, formerly state owned telephone company killing a service that competed with its main business, or just an unsuccessful acquisition being put down?
As an American, I had never heard of this particular service.
If that was used to improve service, it would be more palatable, but I've not heard of anyone caught because of their transit ticket.
The Boston MBTA system doesn't put fares on the card, but just the dollar amount, so the fairs could be hiked easily.

Why are all cities moving from easy-to-use tokens to these expensive, complicated systems?

what about drop the old 4 year idea and moving to an smaller and more skill based badges system?
Don't we have that already with IT certifications? The rest of the working world may benefit from something similar, flawed as certifications are.
Like GM, Ford also squandered its early technology in the EV area.
Ford Ranger EV, 1,500 produced, model years 1998–2002.
GM EV1, 1117 produced, model years 1996–1999. They also had the small truck S-10 EV variant.
Toyota RAV4 EV was produced from 1997–2003, and is now back in production with Tesla.
Is anyone surprised that a Japanese company had longer foresight than the American ones? Thank you Wall Street.
Or BlackBerry/RIM...
I wonder what would happen to a lawyer who quotes a slightly-edited pirate edition in a filing? Disbarment?

Interesting to see .nl and .br sites in the list.

The Nazis also pushed for youth indoctrination to attempt to create generations of followers. Glad DARE and MAFIAA learned the lesson.

Which is why performance bonuses should be based on long term results.
Sort of like HP outsider Carly Fiorina winning over internal candidate Ann Livermore? The question is, which one is Elop here?

They'd all land in the Outback and dry out. What solution is that?
On the plus side, seafood BBQ.
