Having every aspect of my life recorded just scares the hell out of me. We have countried collecting Internet and phone usage. Many cities are putting cameras up to monitor your travel. All your purchases made via credit card are recorded. At work, your company probably monitors your email. Even companies like Tivo monitor your tv viewing habits. What else is left?? Governments/corporations will know damn near everything about you and what you do. I say to hell with this... I'm buying an island in the Pacific and starting my own country.
Jobs wants to lower the cost of songs, but the RIAA has insisted that they raise the cost of new songs in order to lower the cost of other ones. Many people are not willing to pay $.99/song muchless $1.xx for one. And the complaint from Napster in that article is pathetic... they are just upset that Apple dominates the marketplace. You want more sales... then lower the price!
The US numbers are somewhat inflated because they count sanitation engineers who are merely garbage men and custodial engineers who are merely janitors.
Sure its alot of money, but I'm sure many people here remember buying a 286 system when they first came out for 2-3 thousand with a monochrome display and a 10meg harddrive:) I still have a 286 laptop in the basement if anyone is interested. It only weighs like 15lb and has a battery life of 20 minutes;)
Wow, 60 people on drivers and they still have poor Linux support! Sounds like poor leadership to me. Don't get me wrong, I proudly own a Radeon 9800, but I'm afraid to upgrade drivers because I've been burned in the past.
At a cost of $1200, you're better off getting an XBox 360, a PS3, and the new Nintendo. You'll probably have a couple bucks left over for lunch. Just way too uch money for the average Joe. But I bet some uber Slashdot users already have them:)
The film has been directed by Andrew Adamson, who directed both of the "Shrek" movies and supervised the special effects on both of Joel Schumacher's "Batman" movies. Can it really be that bad?
It's not a troll, but they have to get the news from somewhere. Unless they have their own reporters, they are just getting the news from the same sources as Google and Yahoo news, but packaging it differently....right?
I find the interface pretty clean and easy to navigate, but how is this different than Google News or even Yahoo News for that matter? It has nice links to Wikipedia and Wikionary, but other that it seems rather "already been done".
Considering that Google doesn't offer anywhere close to the amount of crap that Yahoo and MSN do I think Google is doing far better. Yahoo, MSN, AOL, all offer a million different services and Google's primary function is searching. The maintenence costs for those sites must be through the roof, whereas Google can spend the $$$ on research and innovation.
If you look at what Open Office has achieved, it is impressive. Sure MS Office is the defacto standard and is quite acceptable, but Open Office is very usable and not anymore buggy than other complicated applications. And to think that it had to deal with deciphering the everchanging MS filetypes... is it perfect, no... is it impressive, indeed.
Dear consumer, we regret that we were caught releasing this abomination to you. We really don't believe in fair-use and will do everything in our power to prevent law abiding consumers the right copy their songs freely. We will invest more time and money developing a more secretive method of copy protection. Thank you for your understanding and we take comfort knowing that you'll forget about this in a few months. Have a nice day.
If Intel thinks it's going to be a failure, then I guess they have nothing to worry about. These laptops are great idea whose success will be decided by the marketplace. How can you criticize an effort meant to help the less fortunate? Sounds like Intel has penis envy if you ask me.

I didn't even notice the RSS stuff this morning when I logged in so I checked again and it was there. Pretty cool and unintrusive. the first feed I saw on there was from Dictionary.com "voluptuary: a person devoted to luxury and the gratification of sensual appetites." Learn something new everyday I guess.
Everyone loves Google, until of course they become evil and we all hate them.
They're constantly pushing for technologies that people don't want and hopefully is going to hurt Sony. First there was the memory stick, now destructive DRM and the possibility of locking down PS3 games to one device. If lawsuits don't correct this (and they most likely won't), it's up to the consumer to correct the issue with their wallet.
Looks like Vader has found us again! Hope the planetary shields hold up.

http://religiousfreaks.com/Chec out these fantastic "benefits" of the AACS DRM...
* Support a superior viewing experience delivered by next generation media formats
* Enable greater flexibility to manage distribute, and play entertainment content on a wider range of devices
* Enable groundbreaking home entertainment choices and the ability to use content on PCs and a range of CE devices
* Work across a variety of formats and platforms
Too bad that having no DRM has more features. What a joke.

http://religiousfreaks.com/There are a total of 2,300,000 LEDS at 122x48 feet. That equates roughly to a resolution of 2418x951 give or take a few :)

gasmonso http://religiousfreaks.com/This was already reported on Engadget a couple days ago: http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000320071969/ complete with reference to Inspector Gadget.

gasmonso http://religiousfreaks.com/In a shocking discovery, it appears that the Wikipedia entry came from the sixth floor of the Dallas book repository.
