Why would anyone pay $10 for a movie that will be available only digitally? I can go to Walmart and get an actual DVD for $5-$15. I think Jobs and the MPAA are nuts.
I believe this was the result of propostion 71 that was passed in California last year. It allocated $3 billion over a period of ten years to fund stem cell research! Way to go California:)
Honestly I don't blame the spammers... they are just advertising, like the people who send junk snail mail. I do have a roblem though with the idiots who fall for these ads and drive the business. Seriously, how stupid are people. To actually fall for that Nigerian one... my God!
With the XBox 360 out and doing well and Nintendo realeasing soon with a great prices... will Sony recover from this? I just don't see any excitement around the next Playstation... all I hear is bad news.
After 4 years in the Marines I was ready to get out to the "real" world... a world free of BS and well paying cool jobs. Well I got my degree in Comp Sci and was ready to face the world. Upon getting a job with a large corporation, I was amazed at the amount of BS there. It made the military look like an efficient & well-oiled machine. After 5.5 years now in the corporate world I ahve come to one conclusion... you alone can't make a damn difference. Either you will like it or you won't. I have finally realized that being my own boss is the way to go and thus I am pursuing that vigorously.
As for you my friend, take a walk through the corporate jungle and see if its your kinda thing. You can always do your own thing!
Took Dell this long to see that Linux us a wise choice for servers. They finally realized that AMD actually makes good CPUs too. Pretty soon, I hope to see Dell boxes running Linux on AMD in pace of Windows for the average user!
Since the users were required to actually execute something on the usb stick, couldn't this have been done years ago on floppies? Clever, kinda... but not new is my guess.
Copyright laws are just like unions now. In the beginning, they both had their use, but as timee have changed, copyright laws, like unions have not adapted to suit current conditions. In the end, they cause more bad than good. Hello GM!
You're so right! It'll prepare the children for hi-tech jobs that don't exist in their country! Gimme a break. And I never said we have it worse, I was just pointing out that computers don't educate people... good books and good teachers do. That's been proven tima and tima again by seeing the decline in US math and science scores. As for illegals coming here... it certainly isn't to get cheap computer equiment. It's because we have an economy and jobs and we're next door. $100 laptops aren't going to create and economy and jobs. Maybe if we send tons of laptops to Mexico, they will stop coming here. You're a real gem!
Indeed! While I admire the drive behind this project... I really think it's quite useless when they lack basic drugs, water, food, stable governments, etc. Computers aren't the solution... look at the US... everyone has computers and we still lag behind countries that barely have electricity.
I'm tired of all this crap with respects to music. It's just music... why is it so complicated to just sell people music and compensate artists? All the DRM business, angry countries, law suits, etc. It rediculous damnit! Stop the madness.
This happens all the time unfortunately. People's stupidity can circumvent and electronic security measures. But I'd rather have my identity stolen than my legs blown off by an IED.
I won't pay for anything until I get Launchcast in my car. Having the ability to access tons of stations and rate songs is where its at. If I don't like a song... *poof* I'll never hear it again! It's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Also, I can have a mix of music from rock to classical on one station. Satellite and HD radio can't do that.
You can pass all the laws and restrictions you desire, but kids will find a way to purchase/play violent games. You can try cleaning up the games by passing laws, but if there is a demand, someone will fill it. It comes down to parents knowing what their kids are doing and educating them appropriately. My friends and I grew up in a time when Rambo and Arny were all the rage... violence was commonplace in the entertainment industry. We all grew up to be rather well adjusted... and thats because we were raised properly. Laws won't help... education will.
My wife and I though about getting one of these and then another for the vacumming. But we decided on a maid and the rest is history. We spend 0 hours/week cleaning and our house looks great. I'll highly recommend one:)
Tough crowd here at Slashdot. We all know it's going to suck, but at least let them release it first before you criticize. Seriously though, it is just a beta and not the end result. They're looking for feedback to make improvements and thats a good thing.
Obviously, everyone wants the government to stay out of the public's provate life, but there is a big difference between listening to peoples phone calls and looking for calling patterns. I find the latter to be somewhat acceptable, but it is subject to abuse like everything else. The government is in a tough situation where people demand protection, but want to maintain their civil rights rightfully so. It's a tough task in which there is no easy solution.
I know that YAhoo has commented on this because they datamine extensively to find surfing habits on their site to better place advertisements. Obviously this is a bit different, but the technology and methodology is similar. I have no problem with computers analyzing calling patterns. There was a distinct pattern of calls that lead up to 911 and other attacks.

http://psychicfreaks.com/It's good to see such huge advances in domestic spying instead of things like stem cell research.
